Just seen this about a dog being allowed to use a restaurant as a toilet at one of Gordon Ramsay’s Pizzeria…

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/gordon-ramsays-pizza-restaurant-dog-toilet-backlash-b1280987.html

I might be biased because I really can’t stand dogs in restaurants, coffee shops, etc, but has it not got a bit ridiculous now? We’re at the point where a restaurant manager is actually allowing a dog to piss and shit inside.

At least before, there was usually some expectation that dogs would behave or that staff would step in. This feels like that’s gone out the window and it’s just being accepted.

Customer claims dog 'allowed to use toilet' in London restaurant

Customer Giselle Cade, who was dining with her husband, said the alleged incident was ‘beyond disgusting’

I saw the tiktok

I feel like maybe the owners were just having a mare with their puppy - the tiktoker came across as a bit of a dick tbh

Still, its unhygienic and shouldn't be standard practice ofc!

Noshadowsinthedarkness · 04/05/2026 20:02

There is no excuse. Absolutely disgusting.

Don’t take the puppy/dog out to a restaurant if it has some kind of issue going to the toilet.

TheGreatDownandOut · 04/05/2026 20:03

Yeah that’s ridiculous. I’m not totally against dogs in pubs or cafes but people need to be more sensible about it. I wouldn’t take a dog that was nervous or reactive or not toilet trained in to a cafe!

Or. Even better. Don't take a dog or puppy into a restaurant unless it's some sort of assistance dog.

There's no need for it.

It wasnt their best idea was it 😬

sprigatito · 04/05/2026 20:06

The dog shouldn’t be there, it’s as simple as that. It’s a dog, not a human being and it doesn’t belong in a restaurant, a supermarket or anywhere else where it’s important to maintain hygiene for human health. There are two shops near me who recently jumped on the “dogs welcome!” bandwagon and have since rescinded it after someone’s little darling shat on the floor. Madness.

Coconutter24 · 04/05/2026 20:08

I don’t think dogs should be in restaurants to begin with let alone a dog that’s not fully trained

BiteSizedLife · 04/05/2026 20:14

I think 99.99999% of dog owners would agree with you that dogs should not be relieving themselves inside a restaurant/café/etc

This looks like the 0.1% that is very visible thanks to social media. How gross for the other diners.

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 04/05/2026 20:16

Even if somewhere is dog-friendly, why would someone think it’s acceptable to take a dog that isn’t toilet trained? It’s just gross.

Yes they should be toilet trained, dog owner here.

fellupthestairs · 04/05/2026 20:36

Nope, it’s a hard no for me, unless it’s a genuine assistance dog.

Funnywonder · 04/05/2026 20:44

I voted YABU by mistake. Can’t seem to change vote on app. Anyway, YANBU! I doubt anyone would want to watch a dog do a big Mr Whippy while they’re eating.

Edited to say my vote did change. Must have been a delay.

OvertiredAndEmotional · 04/05/2026 20:48

They shouldn’t be allowed in shops either. I saw one lift its leg and piss against a rack of trousers in John Lewis recently.

JulietteHasAGun · 04/05/2026 20:49

As a dog owner who takes my dogs in cafes I was horrified by this video. I have never felt the need to take a puppy pad into a restaurant with me. If your puppy isn’t reliable yet then have them on your knee (not touching the table) or take them outside every 20 mins. Or wait till they’re older. I have taken young, ten week puppies into cafes but it never once crossed my mind they’d need a puppy pad because even by ten weeks old I knew they weren’t going to wee inside in a cafe.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 04/05/2026 20:52

I’m a dog owner, I would never let my dog pee or poo in a restaurant. This is on the owner of the dog and any staff that are complicit.
Luckily my dog goes toilet in the park, by a bush, in grass. But this is ridiculous!

Buildingthefuture · 04/05/2026 20:52

I love dogs, far more than most people and I recognise that. I would still never take a dog to a restaurant like this.
If a dog isn’t toilet trained? I leave it at home. No one, including me, needs that at dinner!
I am not unreasonable enough to think that my dog takes precedence. I did note however, that the woman in the article had her own newborn with her. As much as I make absolutely sure my dogs do not inconvenience or disrupt anyone else, I am also damn sure that a newborn crying whilst I’m eating my dinner? Not what I what either…..
And yes, we’ve made different choices, me to have dogs, she to have children. Both EQUALLY valid and neither of us has the right to disturb the other.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/05/2026 20:52

YABVU to use the word ‘toileting’ with regard to dogs! Just say peeing or pooing, FGS.

It’s bad enough for the word to be used in the context of poor decrepit old people in care homes, but at least that’s more understandable.

IncessantNameChanger · 04/05/2026 20:55

Horrific. If this became the norm I would never go out to eat or drink again.

Just waiting for the inevitable "my dogs shit doesn't smell" or that watching a dog seat and curl one out is a beautiful experience.

Noodge · 04/05/2026 20:56

It's never okay BUT, I've been in old school country/village pubs sometimes when this has happened. Dogs (and children!) have accidents sometimes and if it is a very dog-friendly place, usually the landlord and other customers are very understanding.

It happened to me once with a dog I was looking after for a friend. Well-trained dog but possibly became confused with the surroundings and different situation. I borrowed cleaning materials from the pub, apologised a lot and sorted it out within a couple of minutes.

However again, this was my local, an 'old man and his dog' sort of place. Of course it isn't pleasant but nobody was overly bothered.

Someone LETTING their dog do it, in a place serving food is a different situation altogether IMO.

DashItAll · 04/05/2026 20:58

Not too long ago there used to be the 'No Dogs Except Guide Dogs' stickers in cafes, shops, etc. Really would like this situation to make a comeback. And I like dogs.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 04/05/2026 20:59

I'm happy to take my dogs in dog friendly pubs and cafes, but I would definitely not be taking a dog that wasn't housetrained.

Not long before that in the great scheme of things, there was no need for such signs. Everyone took their dogs everywhere in decades/centuries gone by.

Alwaysthesameoldstory · 04/05/2026 21:18

The restaurant should be closed down for not complying with hygiene standards.

This is beyond disgusting.

And allowing this to happen showed the utter contempt the staff had for the customers who had to witness this.

Livelovebehappy · 04/05/2026 21:31

I’m a dog owner and would agree you shouldn’t allow dogs to toilet in the middle of a cafe or restaurant. And I’m sure the vast majority of dog owners would say the same. But I will continue to take my very well trained dog with me into any cafe or restaurant which welcomes dogs. This (very) isolated incident should not be used as a stick to use against other responsible dog owners.
