AIBU to be amazed my friend does all her laundry in one day?

I called over to a friend yesterday evening with my dc. She was just coming down the stairs with an empty laundry basket when she answered the door.
she took a few minutes to answer the door so as she opened the door, she apologised and said she was putting away the laundry.
I jokingly said oh no bother I must put mine away, It’s been sitting there all week I need to clear the basket for the next lot.
she then proceeded to tell me she does ALL her laundry on a Saturday- washes, dries, irons and puts away! IN ONE DAY! I nearly fell to the floor. She said she had two and a half loads.
I was even more baffled because she couldn’t have us round until 7ish because she had a crazy busy day. Her dd had training, her ds had a friend over for a playdate, her dd then had an appointment in the afternoon. Then she had to collect her dh from the train station. My mind is blown! She fits her laundry in between doing all of this…and she irons! 😅 where am I going wrong?

I’m a single parent family and only need to do 3 loads a week. Doesn’t require much effort and I don’t have a tumble dryer. Laundry basket is pretty much empty. But I don’t change our bedding weekly.
when there was a man in the house it was very different. He stank and I used to wash the bedding every few days and clothes daily,

Nogoodusername · Today 10:32

family of four, two teens that are taller than me. I do one clothes wash a day then probably another 4 loads per week of towels and bedding. I do have a drier but there are a lot of clothes that can’t go in the drier. Can’t dry in the garden as my pollen allergy is too bad.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · Today 10:32

I do a load a day. Every day. I also iron it all and put it all away and iron everything except socks. My absolute favourite is a dry windy day as I can wash, put it on the line to dry, bring it in and iron it and put it all away in the same day.

MyDeftDuck · Today 10:33

She sounds pretty well organised tbh. If she works during the week then her weekends will be time for pulling in jobs at home. FWIW I like to iron clothes as they come in off the washing line, but only if they need ironing of course. Everything else is sorted folded up after thorough airing and put away 💪

So how often is the jumper getting washed then? Trust me, they smell if the clothes are washed rarely and other kids notice.

She wears one jumper for 2 days is that ok? That’s two jumpers a week, the other day is a sports jumper. Which she takes off for sport. She showers daily…no she doesn’t stink

PenelopePinkerton · Today 10:33

Depends on the size of your family and how soiled your clothes get. We have between 8-10 people here and I love a bit of gardening so I’m usually going through a couple of outfits a day. Then there’s all the bedding so we have two machines that are on at least once a day each if not more.

SusanChurchouse · Today 10:34

I have limited space to hang washing both inside and outside so have to do it regularly or else I’d be struggling to get it dried.

My husband would save up all the washing and do 5 loads in a day. I get the logic of this as it allows it all to be separated. But then I come home to all the clothes crammed onto a rack/hangers over doors/on radiators.

I do 7-10 loads a week, if I only had 2.5 I could do it in a day!

Do you run a hotel 😀

WimbyAce · Today 10:35

I don't think it's that crazy. I only do bedding/towels every fortnight. I do the kids stuff on a Friday. Do a small load on a Saturday after swimming with Friday's uniform. Do mine and partner's stuff in another load at some point in the week. Do kids bedding as and when. I don't use tumble drier and I def don't iron 😅

Why would you do it all in one day? It's been beautiful weather here this week ideal for doing a load pegging it out before work and the fetching it in again. No drier or heated airer necessary.

Also who the fuck only has 2 and 1/2 loads of laundry for the whole week?

Edited

People who have large capacity machines, don't change their bedding & towels often enough, put everything in mixed loads I guess.

Crikeyomalley · Today 10:36

I do all mine in one day - only 2 of us most of the time - 3 loads - lights/darks/ bedclothes or towels. I put the first lot on late at night on a timer as there's a super cheap rate overnight then a 45 minute tumble for each - fold and into a bssket and upstairs. I don't iron much but save that up and do a big iron once a month.

parkezvous · Today 10:36

1-2 loads most days here 😭

NellieJean · Today 10:37

So do I half price electricity on Sunday

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · Today 10:37

Easy to do 2.5 loads in a day if weather nice or uses a tumble dryer if you get up and get it on first thing. Maybe not a lot of it needs ironing/she has a large capacity machine. I’m amazed at the 2.5 loads though, at a minimum in a week I have darks, whites, colours, socks/boxers (house full of boys), towels, bedding. I suppose, if weather has been nice I could get away with a mixed load of colours/lights, mixed bedding/towels, small load of darks inc.dark socks and boxers.

I had four loads ready to go today, it’s damp outside and not all of it can be tumble dried so it definitely won’t be washed, dried, ironed and put away by tonight!

Of course it's an option if you work. Confused I work and am out the house 7-4ish most days as I said if it's going to be a nice day you peg a load out and then bring it in when you get home. Isn't that what most people do?

It is.

DD very sporty but her gear didn't bulk out the washing machine!

So one sporty child with light kit @SonnyandChair

now try rugby and swimming son plus hockey, lacrosse and cross country runner DD.

Sidebeforeself · Today 10:39

You can only “peg out” if you have space, tumble dry if you have one etc. This is a typical example of a thread where many posters assume everyone has the same set up they have.

Family of 4. Kids are older teens. We, ha, I always do one sometimes two loads of clothes a day then 3 or 4 loads of bedding/towels a week when the weather suits to hang outside this time of year. Saving it all for one day wouldn’t work at all here!

I usually add some bedclothes and towels with my mixed loads and a third for the left overs so 3 loads a week . I'm trying not to wash things as frequently as well - not after every wear if not visibly stained

Chewbecca · Today 10:40

I do most of it in one day too. One light, one dark, one towels. DH does bedclothes on another date.

I use the short cycle for most things. Peg it out. Bring it back late pm. Only iron about 3 items, away it goes.

Oh stop it now ! You are giving me washing machine envy ! it is my lifes ambition to have a laundry with 2 washers and 2 dryers!

Why are you washing cycling gloves???

Controversial on MN but I often peg our washing the night before, if the weather is going to be good. Then bring it in the next morning. I realise this leads to it being “darker on”.

Until recently when the weather improved, all cycling gear would come back splattered in mud. It's mountain biking, not road cycling. So, extra fucking messy.

(Don't get me started on cycling.)

We do all of ours on a Saturday (well DH does it). Around 5-6 loads. Doesn’t stop us going out though - we’re not sitting supervising the machines.

the machines are a huge fire risk. It's not good practice to leave them running when you're not home.

i used to & used to think my friend who wouldn't was a bit mad, but we had quite a few fires reported & I looked into it, now I don't do it.

Do you run a hotel 😀

No but 2 adults one DC lots of gym and sports kits, gym towels, plus the usual clothing, uniform, pyjamas, 2 lots of bed linen (that's two loads just there)! We had PIL to stay last weekend so another set of bedding and another couple of towels although got all of that in one load. I remember fondly when I lived alone and did 2-3 loads a week.....

You put laundry in washer, press on then do other stuff. Then you put that in dryer switch on then out other stuff in washer then get in with other stuff. You repeat this 2 and a half times. All she is really doing is spending 5-10 mins each time loading and unloading. There's plenty of time for the other stuff.

This, and I don't iron either.
