Absolutely zero talk from corporate about the terrorist attacks against Jewish people

We have an awareness calendar at work. Mundane stuff but also Eid/Easter. I live in Manchester so it would be very hard not to know it's Easter.

Also no other religions are on the awareness calendar.

However zero talk about the terrorist attacks and no saying "if you need support talk to manager, hr or employee assistance" etc.

Zero.

It's also social housing.

Aibu that we are all ignoring the terrorism against Jews

No, I don’t think your workplace should be discussing with staff or offering support to staff in relation to a terrorist attack no one at the company was involved in that took place in another city.

seasmussealife1 · 02/05/2026 23:24

Thefastandthecurious5 · 02/05/2026 23:16

So your workplace acknowledged the Golders Green attack but not the previous incidents. Is that right? What would you have liked them to have done instead?

They can acknowledge the rise in antisemetnism and how to support staff.

It only acknowledged the manchester terrorist attacks.

Tell me this, if this was another religion being a victim of the attacks, wouldn't there be outcry?

Where? Tell me where people are having a knife taken to them?

I was upset about the old Indian guy getting the shit kicked out of him in Leicester. I didn't get annoyed by my company not saying anything about it. And the CEO is Indian.

That's probably because you work in Manchester no?

It's ok we talk about Palestine monthly

I once attempted to make a calendar of significant dates for social media purposes in a previous role and it was actually very difficult.

For starters, there are more than just the main world religions (Jains, Zorastrians anyone?), plus different sects or pathways within world religions. Then it is difficult to judge the relative significance of different festivals, unless you are very familiar with the religion.

Awareness days are another minefield.

In the end I gave up and just stuck to the events that were directly relevant to the organisation.

It’s not clear what you mean by ‘anti racism group’ but if it is a group of people at your company who get together to discuss racism then it is up to that group what they discuss.

And where you say upthread ‘wouldn’t there be an outcry?’ there has been one. It is incredibly strange you think your work needs to get involved or state its position.

I thought they did acknowledge the rise in antisemitism, because you said they acknowledged the Manchester synagogue attack. That makes sense, because you said the workplace is in Manchester.

Is there anything else you would like them to do?

Thefastandthecurious5 · 02/05/2026 23:07

Ooh I don’t know…. to support colleagues who may be feeling upset at what’s happened?! Our workplace does, for example, as we have many Jewish colleagues. Jeez.

Yes, but remember we’re not allowed to support Jewish people in case people think we’re not virtue signalling on the ‘right side’ of this issue.

That was not the rise. It's happened since then.

I’m not Jewish or Palestinian and I will continue to support both Jewish and Palestinian people.

Boxingshibes · 02/05/2026 23:35

I think i understand what you are trying to say. At my work we have reminders of religious holidays but nothing about Jewish holidays which is frustrating, but not going to make a fuss as I need my job.
Luckily as we are a private company no Palestinian talks. But unfortunately antisemitism is everywhere and I personally find it very scary. I do not have an obviously Jewish surname which helps.

So you’re saying you want your workplace to recognise every single major antisemitic incident that’s happening. Why? Are you Jewish? Is your workplace Jewish? I’m not sure I understand your point.

How is that normalising terrorism? Are you not able to research and look into this yourself?

DugnuttEyeBoogies · 02/05/2026 23:55

If you’re in Manchester, why on earth would you need “support” from your workplace for an attack that happened hundreds of miles away?

What the hell do you expect them to do? Offer support anytime any complete strangers in the UK are attacked? They’re running a company, not a charity.

The “professional victim” mentality is getting out of hand. Get on with your bloody work they are paying you for.

seasmussealife1 · 02/05/2026 23:22

Where? Tell me where people are having a knife taken to them?

Latest figures I can see for England & Wales, there were 242 fatal stabbing in year plus 4783 incidents of knife crime with injury in the year.

Thats many that haven’t had ANY attention, press or otherwise.

Shitstix · 03/05/2026 01:03

OP you won't get many empathetic responses. The world has gone mad, and the antisemitism is running wild. I'm shocked by it.

When Muslim extremists flew planes into the WTC, we came up with the notion of Islamaphobia to stop moderate Muslims having to deal with the fall out.

But apparently Jewish people are now responsible for terrorists attacking Israel and being at the FAFO stage of not wanting peace in the ME.

Passaggressfedup · 03/05/2026 07:38

So people really expect work to provide acknowledgement and support to all their staff every time a hate crime is being committed somewhere in the world?

Hate crime only? How about any other crime that might trigger something to employee for whatever reason?

pointythings · 03/05/2026 07:41

That is poor of your work, OP. I work in an NHS mental health Trust, and we don't have a corporate calendar as such, but we had comms offering support to our Jewish staff members within hours of the Golders Green attack (and after the ambulance arson attack as well).
