What’s your point? Seems a mean post. That person will recognise themselves!

PoppinjayPolly · 30/04/2026 21:50

Why care you?
Am assuming you are asking for yourself? surely you’re not so terrible a person you’ve put them online like this?

Do you work at a desk a lot?

Yes

It depends. It could be scoliosis, it could be poor posture. I had a widows’ hump which I managed to get rid of.
If you lie on the floor, is it comfortable? Can your back flatten normally?

HobnobsChoice · 30/04/2026 21:54

That could be kyphosis developing or it could just be the angle. There are lots of exercises you can do to help with rounded shoulders and upper back. See a physio if you're concerned

DollydaydreamTheThird · 30/04/2026 21:54

Just looks like bad posture to me (I'd know as mine is terrible,) but if you're really worried see the gp. Pilates and yoga are good for improving posture.

poutlikeyoumeanit · 30/04/2026 21:55

I think its just bad posture/stress

Looks like your wedding picture? Weddings are lovely but stressful.

When im v stressed I get a hunch like that. Goes away with a hard massage. They always say OMG how are your shoulders and neck so tight.
Its where I carry all of my stress.

Try a massage and I think it will go away

Notmeagain12 · 30/04/2026 21:55

Can’t see from that photo.

if you’re worried see your Gp. Although personally I’d pay for a private physio appointment first so you have a better idea of what you’re dealing with- is it scoliosis or hyperkyphosis for example, fatty tissue from something like cushings, or simply poor posture. Then you’ll be able to decide next steps.

I had a massage recently and the therapist commented on the stress and knots in my shoulders - interesting

Was this taken in a moment when all eyes were on you?It sort of looks like you’re trying to hunch in yourself like people sometimes do when they’re self conscious.
It’s hard to tell from a single stationary photo though. Seeing a video of yourself walking/ moving about while relaxed will give you a better idea of your normal posture.

Blimms · 30/04/2026 22:05

It genuinely looks like bad posture rather than anything more serious.

appleberryhandcream · 30/04/2026 22:06

No, I wouldn’t have said so. I think you are being too critical of yourself.

but if you think there is something going on some of the previous advice looks good.

dizzydizzydizzy · 30/04/2026 22:07

Pilates will help!

make sure you have your eyes checked in case it is caused by you peering into your screen. Theee will be something that you are doing.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 30/04/2026 22:07

Have a go at lying on your back with no pillow under your head, but put a thin pillow or rolled towel or similar under your shoulders instead. The weight of your head pulls everything backwards/into line.

I have a bit of a tech neck that I want to get rid of, and I can really really feel it when I lie like that. I can't do more than about 10 mins at a time for now but hoping to retrain myself!

SpiritAdder · 30/04/2026 22:11

Osteoporosis does that too. The spine collapses under its own weight.
I’d consider a bone density scan.

I agree but @libertybonds , you should still see your GP. Get yourself checked out and ask for a physio referral.

Assuming that it is indeed just poor posture, start doing daily planks. Start with 30 seconds and work up to 3 minutes a day.

Walking with a weighted (3-5 kg) vest for 20-30 minutes a day would also be helpful.

Can I ask how you got rid of your widows hump @PrizedPickledPopcorn ?

Getitoffmychest · 30/04/2026 22:22

As someone who has had this issue , you can address it and the things i found most effective are strength training with someone who specialises in posture combined with massage. Ultimately massage alone will give temporary relief , posture focused strength training will give more permanent change

Manxexile · 30/04/2026 22:26

I don't think you can "develop" a hunchback.

Just looks like poor posture to me - possibly exacerbated by working at a desk. I have the same problem amd it seems very common these days

See your GP and ask for a NHS physio referral or see aphysio privately

Wolmando · 30/04/2026 22:29

Poor posture, are you quite tall, some taller people sometimes hunch up to look shorter

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 30/04/2026 22:37

This is one of those things it’s better to see a professional about rather than asking the internet. As you have seen, people will come up with a myriad of opinions but nobody can diagnose from a photo - especially as it might be the photo angle
