Had some free items outside the house in a box clearly labelled as free. Someone came to pick something up I had offered separately and also took a dinning set that was outside that was mine. I’ve told the they said they would return it still haven’t. I thought it was clear enough but obviously not. I did Aplogsie fo the mistake however it’s still not been returned. Surely in. Way it’s stealing?

Through message

How did you know who had taken it if it was just a stranger on the street taking something he/she thought was free?

I thought it was stuff for your son. Were you selling it to your son? How much would you have sold it for?

Yes I think she should have asked if she could take it and failing that should have returned it once she was told it wasn't up for grabs. But given that hasn't happened, think I'd chalk it up as a life lesson around not leaving stuff outside in bin bags that I wanted to hold onto.

No I’m having a clear out as moving not selling the plates. I’m saying I could have sold stuff not that I did

Why did you put stuff you were about to give your son in the garden, in the first place?
Isn’t he allowed in your home?

Fairyliz · 26/04/2026 17:39

This is really weird, why would you put your son’s plates out in the garden?
Surely you would leave his stuff in kitchen, bedroom, hall? Yes a bit annoying but he’s your son! Were you just expecting him to pick them up from the garden and not speak to you?

somanychristmaslights · 26/04/2026 17:46

I can’t even follow what’s happened, so no wonder the other person was confused 😂

Moonnstarz · 26/04/2026 17:47

I think you need to let this one go.
Sounds like they thought it was a yard sale and anything in the garden was available, which is an easy mistake to make with you having a sign out and by the sounds of it also having posted on social media (hence how you contacted them to ask for it back).

As others have said it seems odd to leave your son's dinner set in a bin bag in the garden. Why wasn't it in the house or in his room?

Does he not have a key to your house?

Oreosareawful · 26/04/2026 18:32

If you’ve spoken to her via messenger, you can ask for her address to go and collect your plates?

still a ridiculous situation, that you caused!
