Had some free items outside the house in a box clearly labelled as free. Someone came to pick something up I had offered separately and also took a dinning set that was outside that was mine. I’ve told the they said they would return it still haven’t. I thought it was clear enough but obviously not. I did Aplogsie fo the mistake however it’s still not been returned. Surely in. Way it’s stealing?

Why didnt you put the non free stuff inside your house?
If you want it back go and get it yourself

Well just goes to show people’s mind sets. I personally wouldn’t keep something someone said wasn’t to take

Do you have any of her details? Or is it just someone from social media?

Queenhecate · 25/04/2026 21:39

how did you fit a dining set in a bin bag?

Tbh learning by doing. Don't place things next to a sign with "free".

Wasn’t next to sign saying free though as stated

That’s a dinner set.

a dining set to me was always a table and chairs.

Hollyhobbi · 25/04/2026 21:49

When you said dining set, I thought you meant a table and chairs not a dinner set!

Netcurtainnelly · 25/04/2026 21:49

if the person that took it was nice they would give it back.

Skybluepinky · 25/04/2026 21:53

You were lazy and instead of taking stuff to the recycling centre or charity shop, dumped it outside and did a label saying free, then you are annoyed that they removed your junk.

ExitPursuedByABare · 25/04/2026 21:53

Leaving stuff outside on the pavement is asking for it to be taken in my opinion. Especially as there was already stuff to be taken nearby.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 25/04/2026 21:57

So it wasn't a table and chairs?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 25/04/2026 21:59

Shopping7777 · 25/04/2026 20:46

I don’t have her address and don’t drive. She also took enough stuff for free so not unreasonable to want the one thing back she shouldn’t have taken she got quite a bit from me

How did you contact her to ask for your things back @Shopping7777?

A dining set is a table and chairs, op. I wondered how you’d gotten it into a bin bag!
Why did you leave it in the garden, though, that’s a fairly inexplicable thing to do?

It wasn’t junk….it was literally stuff I could of sold but decided to help others won’t make tha mistake again

How far apart were they? I have a big front garden but it could look like everything out there was 'free' especially if other stuff had been taken and left gaps.

You are not getting this back.

Stuff for your DS should have been in the house.

PillsBox · 25/04/2026 22:05

Shopping7777 · 25/04/2026 20:58

Stuff I could have Sold yes

Yeah but you couldn’t be arsed with the hassle so it suited you both.

youalright · 25/04/2026 22:09

So why was a box of plates outside where you trying to sell them

KilkennyCats · 25/04/2026 22:12

This thread is pure ludicrous.
Why would anyone in their right mind put a load of plates and dishes that they actually wanted into a bin bag and dump it in the front garden? Nonsense.

Franjipanl8r · 25/04/2026 22:29

I think we need a diagram to show what this outside space is and where the items were.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 25/04/2026 23:08

Why would anyone in their right mind put a load of plates and dishes that they actually wanted into a bin bag and dump it in the front garden?

I was wondering the same thing.

If you'd planned to sell them, why were they in your front garden?

Also, how can you believe that they were stolen? They were next to the free stuff.

I was also wondering how anyone could do something so foolish and then act surprised to find out everything has been taken.

It's not surprising this person thought the dinner set was there for the taking, they reasonably assumed you wanted to get rid of it, why else would anyone put their plates and mugs in a bin bag in the front garden when advertising free items!

That said, the person should return the set since you've explained the mistake but somehow I doubt they will at this stage. I think you have to accept that the dinner set is gone due to your own foolishness.

I thought it was stuff for your son. Were you selling it to your son? How much would you have sold it for?

Yes I think she should have asked if she could take it and failing that should have returned it once she was told it wasn't up for grabs. But given that hasn't happened, think I'd chalk it up as a life lesson around not leaving stuff outside in bin bags that I wanted to hold onto.
