well i think its natural to feel a bit peeved, but you dont own a name, unfortunately cos i am feeling HUGELY peeved at the moment as ds4 is just three months old, we gave him what we thought was an unusual but nice name Rudi, and then what happends weeks later blody Edith Bowman has her baby and what does she call it? yep Rudy tho she has spelt it with a Y,seriously tho, how fucking annoying....

i love the name rudi (so much better with an i btw ) so even i was peeved at edith calling her baby that. not that i am pregnant or ttc but you never know for the future.

another thing that pissed me of was i fell in love with the name rowan when preg with dd2 but dh pointed out that it is mr.beans real name and totally spoiled it for me. thank god she was a girl.

Both my SIL and I were PG at the same time. I have known since I was 14 what I wanted to name a boy if I ever had one.I had to do a deal with DH and allow him to choose the name for our 1st child, DD, in order to be able to insist on naming a potential DS. My SIL was well aware of the name I had chosen and informed me that if she had a boy first, she was "taking" the name. I could have killed her. However, I had a boy first, 6 months before her, ha ha ha.

slap slap slap

its just a name!

you could still use it.

You can NOT steal a name in the top 10 though. Even in the top 20 I'd say. It's highly likely that two individuals with similar background can independently arrive at the same favourite name........

Rudi or Edith would be name-stealing though.

Years ago I told my boss that I liked the name Rebekah for a girl and would use it if I ever had a daughter. His wife was pregnant and they called their daughter that name and I was actually really pleased that I had come up with a name for him and his wife. They were really nice people.

I didnt use it myself in the end, not because they used it just liked another one better.

My best friend and I were preg at the same time (I was 3 months ahead of her). Of course we discussed names. I told her my favorite girls name, which is Danish. She later mentioned that she remembered hearing the name somewhere, and thought she might use it. I felt silly saying, "No, that's MY name!" I used it when my daughter was born, and I bet she now thinks that I stole her name!

Kids grow into such different people that it doesn't much matter if they share the same name. I say, use it when the time comes, and just say that it has always been your favorite name.

I am 7 months pregnant and have already picked a few names for the baby, who we know is a boy.

The trouble is, my friend had told me that if she ever had a boy she wanted the name we have lined up, for her baby.

I know she is bothered that I have chosen the name Tarquin when she had already mentioned that she wants it for her future son, but really, AIBU if I keep the name and we both have a Tarquin?
