AIBU to think management and colleague are being unreasonable about my notice?

Gave in my notice today at work, Management ignoring me & close Work Colleague being very off with me as I didn’t tell her I was job searching & told Management first and according to her I was out of order for that 🤷‍♀️ so AIBU to think Management are being unreasonable & close work colleague who I work with is being more than unreasonable.

That’s pathetic. Well done in escaping.

‘Thanks for all confirming I’ve made the right decision’

MysteryParcel · 23/04/2026 18:26

You have described your work colleague as “close” twice in your OP, do you mean close as in they just work alongside you or are you actually friends? Not going to lie, I’d be put out if someone I was close friends with at work did what you did and I’d question if we were even friends at all.

As for management, what do you mean ignoring you? Were they blanking you when you tried to talk to them or have they just not acknowledged your resignation / spoken about it with you? Those are two different things.

Either way, you’re leaving though so don’t give it too much headspace.

Edited

Work alongside with Work Colleague we are not friends
Management not talking or making conversation like they normally would do - not greeting hello/bye

If I had a “close” colleague who didn’t confide in me they were job hunting I’d be pissed off.

Standard behaviour for Management though.

HoraceCope · 23/04/2026 18:29

how very juvenile

i hope your notice period isnt too long

Ah in that case OP good riddance to bad rubbish, you’re better off out of there and good luck with whatever you do next.

Justmuddlingalong · 23/04/2026 18:31

Try and ignore it. Head down, work notice and skip out of there on your last day. Fuck 'em.

NoTouch · 23/04/2026 18:33

You'll be ultra sensitive as it is an awkward time. You have just thrown them a curve ball that they need to decide how to deal with, give them a few days/the weekend to let it sink in, then you might find things are a bit more amicable.

I don't say hello to my manager more than once a day! 🤣

Mycatmyworld · 23/04/2026 18:37

Your leaving, nothing to do with anyone else.
Dont let it get to you, work out your time & leave head high. Good luck in your new position

Sam155320 · 23/04/2026 18:39

Thank you everyone

When I say close I mean we work together on a one to one basis not like close as in we confide in each other if that makes sense

Also was thinking would it be unreasonable of me to wait for Manager to do reference & leave IF the behaviour from Bosses & Colleague does not improve

Nearly50omg · 23/04/2026 20:41

none of her bloody business!!! She’s a colleague not a close friend or spouse!!

Nearly50omg · 23/04/2026 20:42

Put a report into HR about their behavior too!! Particularly your boss as it’s nasty!

Nearly50omg · 23/04/2026 20:43

Leave when you want too as they can’t force you to stay

Nah, fuck that, never tell work colleagues things like that until it's a done deal, no matter who they are, some people will and can do anything behind your back, no matter how close you are to them at work.

References are checked. If someone phones about yours he could tell them you're unreliable as you didn't complete your notice. Or if you work in a small area/industry he could also badmouth you/quietly blacklist you.

Error404FucksNotFound · 23/04/2026 21:05

How ridiculous. why on earth does your colleague feel entitled to know that?

They aren't. At all.

Management sulking when you give notice is quite common.

iamnotalemon · 24/04/2026 04:59

Exactly, goes to show you’ve made the right decision. I’ve had the cold shoulder before when I resigned, pathetic.

TerryCallierLookAtMeNowNsoul · 24/04/2026 05:04

If it's a workplace where gossip ensues it's best to keep looking for a new job under your hat.
Best of luck with the new job.

I agree. If OP and her colleague have similar skill sets then, if OP tipped colleague off they were trying for a job, the colleague might put on for it as well.

Morganrae1 · 24/04/2026 21:57

I wouldn't even work my notice under those circumstances.

No, No - you should stay forever in a job that you obviously are not happy in with such lovely colleagues ....NOT. Good luck in the new job x🌹

Smarvellous · Yesterday 00:06

Just keep your head down, work your notice and get the reference. You never know what might happen. Mentally check out though and count down the days!
