To think I’ll be stuck at 16 stone forever

justmeandthedogs · Today 06:45

I’m in the process of losing weight and since the start of the year I’ve lost about 13lbs.

But I seem to be in a loop. I’ll hit 16 stone 0.3 on the scales and then go back up to 16 stone 4, then go back down, then back up. It’s like an annoying cycle.

I eat well:

breakfast - yoghurt with berries and sometimes a drizzle of honey. On low protein days I’ll add some skyr.

lunch - something from home. Usually soup, a salad or a bit of meat with some veg.

dinner - again something prepped. Can be another big salad, cottage pie, pasta bake.

I eat 1550 calories a day, which is a deficit for my height and weight. I go to the gym twice a week (under the direction of a PT, to lift weights), try to run 3 times a week but I’m waiting on some new running shoes, and the other two days a week I’ll walk 10k steps minimum. I try to drink 4 litres of water a day at least.

my clothes fit better but the scale just won’t change 😥 do I just accept I’m stuck here?

I was the same. Hovered between 15 and 16 stone unless I ate an incredibly restricted diet (I mean unhealthy, like just one slice of toast and some fruit per day, then I lost two stone…). I took Mounjaro and it fell off even though I didn’t eat much less. Can you afford that? I guess for some reason my blood sugar/ insulin/ metabolism is screwed.

Now I take a low regular dose and eat normally - probably more than before and am a healthy weight

Google Andrew Chaffee. He's looking pretty good considering he's killing himself with meat.

I mean, everyone thought Liver King was the dog's bollocks until it turned out he was taking a fuck tonne of steroids.

If one person tells you X is wrong because look at them but science says X is right, that person is probably lying to you.

Also, regarding "eating like your ancestors" we were able to evolve precisely because of our ability to cook and process food and therefore make better use of the food energy available to us, so eating like your ancestors is probably not the best way to go about maintaining good health, assuming you mean cavemen, which your mention of the Ice Age would suggest, we've evolved since then and have different dietary needs.

I don’t know if It’s just because of my weight that you’re being like this, but again you’re incorrect. I’ve sat around 9k so far daily this week, which is entirely my own fault and something I’ll work on but the day in the picture is entirely representative

Why do you keep accusing me of posting stuff 'because you are overweight'. .

What is the issue?

Are you arguing about how a km converts to miles? Look online.

Or how long it takes to walk those miles at the 2.7mls per hour you quoted?

This is a waste of my time.

Look up those stats online.

You can't argue with the figures of km to miles and time taken to walk them.

You seem determined to argue with every thing I post - even facts.

I eat in a calorie deficit. What you eat in that deficit doesn’t affect weight loss. 100 calories of pasta and 100 calories of fruit are 100 calories. Simple as that

You are wrong.

Many posts are explaining that sugars and carbs are stored differently to protein. You need to reduce these.

Your body is storing them rather than burning fat.

bythefire6 · Today 18:23

Stupid question but are you weighing daily and using an app to track?
that changed things for me, I thought I wasn’t losing but when I started that I could see the trend more than weighing once a week

You are definitely wrong if you think that 100 calories has the same impact on the body, no matter what its source

I never said on the body. But in terms of weight loss, it’s the same.

Good looking people get cancer and die too, you know. Sorry but I’m not sure what you’re trying to prove with that one.

It's not that he's good looking. It's that he radiates health and fitness.

exactly women’s health is so poorly treated and misunderstood. A woman I know lost 5kg due to fibroids being finally treated .

She was having severe pains for ages and doctors kept telling her to lose weight. Had they done a scan earlier and saw fibroids and removed them that would have been 5kg instantly lost.

I take scale readings of my weight and BMI with a pinch of salt. I take into account a wide range of metrics including waist measurement, how my clothes feel, body fat, and muscle density percentages.

I know home body analysis scales are not always super accurate but they can provide some kind of idea. I know people who have said dexa scans (which are very reliable) more or less backed up what their home scales have been telling them.

Edited

I put on so much weight when breastfeeding (which I did for almost 4 years with `DD), that dr was telling me I was overweight, needed to lose weight. I could feel in my body how related to hormones it was and literally two months after stopping feeding, I was back to a 'healthy' weight. The only change I made was stopping breastfeeding. The fact is, my body needed more fat for that time in a culture where that is not in any way understood.

We literally have not evolved bar getting shorter after the agricultural revolution and developing dental caries and diabetes. That is the point. We are ill because we eat modern food. Plants full of glyphosate, frankenfoods and seed oils. Tonnes of flour and sugar and preservatives in everything. Our bodies are the same as they were back then. They have not adapted or we, as a species would not lose limbs and our sight to sugar toxicity and neuropathy. We would have adjusted.

No, science and maths hasn't been debunked since 1995.

You absolutely can argue over science - that IS what scientists do.

You can also misunderstand it, mis-represent it and / or misuse it.

If I understand you correctly you are trying to suggest that there is a simple equation along the lines of
Calories consumed (via food)
minus
calories burned (in exercise or any activity)
equals
fat calories burned up

But that's a HUGE over-simplification. Food consumed has to be processed by the body in order to turn it into a material that the body can use for fuel. That is a chemical process that will be different for different foods (because they have a different chemical composition - we all know that some foods are easier to digest than others): also we don't know the efficiency of that process - and that will vary from one person to another.

Anyone can just make up a simple statement and claim it to be science. But science is EXACTLY about taking a hypothesis and proving (or disproving) it through empirical evidence.

So, @SheSaidHummingbird , Where is your evidence to back up your statement?

SheSaidHummingbird · Today 18:59

justmeandthedogs · Today 18:41

I’ve yet to see any actual proof of this!

Well you said that you have lost weight, that's evidence of calorie deficit, and you mentioned that you've gained weight, that's evidence of calorie surplus. Science and maths working quite nicely right there.

My evidence is millions of years of science and maths. Please do go ahead and argue your case on the CICO community. The 300,000 + members would be interested I'm sure.

this is so good to hear! I didn’t put any weight on when pregnant because I had such awful reflux all the time but since I had him I have put on two stone, and I cannot move it, as soon as I try and reduce my milk production goes down, I am two years in!

Passingthrough123 · Today 19:52

Why do people keep saying muscle weighs more than fat??? Did they teach you nothing at school?

A 1lb is a 1lb whether it's fat, muscle, feathers, honey, brick, steel or Smarties!

It's the volume of them that differs – 1lb of feathers will take up far more space than 1lb of brick. But their mass is exactly the same.

I don’t know why I am getting drawn in, but whatever:

Yeah fine but you haven’t answered the question. Did you run or cycle for several hours? Do you have a very physical job? This amount of calorie burn from exercise is not remotely realistic for most people.
