It's not summer without it streaming all afternoon on the BBC 🥺

Some of us cant attend Glastonbury irl 🙃

The coverage is only on radio 6, radio 1 and the iplayer though

Long live the bbc for me, well worth the licence fee

Er... and BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BBC News, BBC Online.

Glastonbury is not headline news, whatever the BBC thinks. But like I said, they own it, of course they push it.

TheChosenTwo · 12/04/2026 16:51

I’m always a bit of a grinch about it being shown on tv 😂
Just leave it for those who care to go, why stream the whole thing on tv too? I feel the same about all things I don’t enjoy though, Wimbledon, the World Cup, Grand Prix…

its simply inaccessible for most people tbh

its four days in June. I wont spend the next three months missing a tv show

Ah, I love watching it on the telly. It's football this summer though, I'll watch what fits in with our time zone.

Next year I think it'll be Harry / Fontaines / someone else headlining Glastonbury.

Ooo would Love for Fontaines dc to headline!

The one that wears a skirt is so 😍

You dont think green day? Its long overdue

I am very much looking forward to the world cup! 😄

Oh yeah I understand that, partly because it’s a victim of its own success with major mainstream widespread wall to wall bloody coverage for the entirety of its duration (and in the weeks leading up to it) - now so many people want a piece of the action. Overexposed itself!
I’ve no skin in the game, I’m not a camper and I’m not interested in ‘the atmosphere’ of being in muddy fields with thousands of people.

aster10 · 12/04/2026 16:59

I always confuse Glastonbury and Glyndeborne haha! Both begin with Gl and there are similar sounds afterwards :-) I wondered - wow, a 16 year old really wanting to go to the opera

Its definitely changed from the oasis days, I get what you mean

No longer for hardcore fans

I usually go to Glastonbury and whilst I love it and will try to get tickets every year until I’m not physically able to go, I’m quite looking forward to trying some smaller festivals this summer. Glastonbury is incredible but it’s also expensive, exhausting and requires a lot of planning!

TheFaithfulWeaver · 12/04/2026 17:01

My personal view is that it stopped being cool around 20/25 years ago. I'll not be sorry it's not all I hear about this summer.

It is to festivals what a carpeted, bell tent with a bed frame is to camping.

A pretentious fakery of something enjoyable, for people too cosseted and soft to have actual, proper, grimy fun...

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 12/04/2026 17:01

Good god. Really? It’s just pop musicians watched by gullible twits who are willing to put up with vast crowds and unsanitary conditions to listen to some crappy music.

Monolithique · 12/04/2026 17:03

IoW festival will be on sky.

Reading / Leeds on iplayer

I didn't realise there was no Glastonbury this year OP.
You have really cheered me up. The BBC usual obsession with it is just so boring.

I agree. I'm sure it's fun if you go, but I absolutely hate having to hear re-hashes of it played non-stop on Radio 2. I think it's one of those 'you really had to be there' things.

Thanks - added to the list

The BBC don't publicise it much but they are major stakeholders in Glastonbury. Ever wondered why it's barely mentioned or covered by anyone else? Hence the tedious wall to wall coverage.

I used to listen to R1 in the car and oh my word. 2 months of playing shit live recordings instead of studio songs. Drove me nuts.

I will miss it. Self Esteem and Pulp were the highlights for me last year.

I agree! We have lots of gigs booked this summer ( 8 to date) to keep the music going!

I’m sad! But I’m going to lots of other festivals and gigs to make up for it. Last year was pretty epic though, tbf.

Every fifth year is fallow, to allow the land to rest but also I guess to allow the community to take a year off too.

Happyholidays78 · 12/04/2026 17:37

I enjoy it too OP, on the TV in the comfort of my home. I don't live too far & have friends that go & have done so for years & they love it. I can't stand crowd's & being too hot (there is not a lot of shade there) & 1000s sharing a loo so being there does not interest me. I will check out IOW on the TV instead

HighlightsInHerHair · 12/04/2026 17:46

I think the years off make the years it goes ahead more special. Think we should do the same with Christmas. But having said that I do like it on the tv in June. Have never been in real life - maybe one day when the kids have moved out.

Dontcallmescarface · 12/04/2026 17:48

I'm delighted at the thought of no helicopters flying over my house every 30 minutes from the Wednesday until Monday afternoon ( they start at 9am and the last one back is usually around 1am). Hopefully it will be a lovely weekend and I can sit in the garden without the constant whirring of rotor blades overhead.
