Taking DD11 for a weekend in Bath and never been before so hoping for top tips on what to see and do and any nice places to eat (mid range, prefer independent if possible, we love Thai, Japanese, Italian etc).

Afternoon tea in the Pump Room is a lovely experience.

AlternativeView · 09/04/2026 13:46

The pump room 100% also there are two small quirky museums ,next door to each other , Frankenstein and Jane austen
Id also highly recomded he baths.

Tootingbec · 09/04/2026 13:47

What do you both like doing?

Personally over and above the obvious (Roman baths etc) my two favourite places are the Costume Museum in the city Center and the American Museum which is a bus ride up to Claverton (near the university). But if neither of you are into fashion or displays of American textiles and interiors then might not be for you 🙂

Decorhate · 09/04/2026 13:48

There are free walking tours run by the council which meet near the pump room I think.

Whatafustercluck · 09/04/2026 13:49

Plenty of bubbles, candles and a nice G&T.

Sorry.

Thermae spa!! You just need a swimsuit. They provide towels etc.
Walk from the top of town round the circus and then onto the Royal Crescent, then back through Victoria Park.
Lots of places for afternoon tea. Have a sit on the benches by the Abbey.
Roman Baths for some touristy history.
The city centre is beautiful at night.
Have fun!

Use the first table app for half price lunches and dinners. Root spice on pultenay bridge is lovely and is part of the deal (we had a lovely 2 course dinner for 4 for under £80 with this app), there are pizza and other independent restaurants also as part of the deal. Sally Lunns bun house is famous for Bath buns

TheApocalypticiansApprentice · 09/04/2026 14:24

What sort of transport will you be using? I’d say the main thing in the city itself is that you need to be walking.

Will there be anything good on at the theatre that weekend? Try to book tickets if so.

Beyond Bath itself:

Lacock
Glastonbury
Stonehenge

are each extraordinary in their individual ways, so worth a small journey.

Thanks all! Lots of great ideas.

Go to Bristol.

Trusttheawesome · 10/04/2026 16:42

We’re planning a bath weekend in August so I’m following for ideas too!

Bushmillsbabe · 10/04/2026 16:51

Thermae spa is lovely, try to book your slot at sunset if you can, it's beautiful to watch it from the open air rooftop pool

AliTheMinx · 10/04/2026 17:56

Solina is a nice Italian restaurant, although you can't book and it gets busy. The Real Italian Pizza Company does great pizzas, and can be booked. There's so much to do in Bath - open top bus tour, Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, Holburne Museum, Royal Crescent, Assembly Rooms. Parade Gardens and Sydney Gardens are lovely in nice weather. If you like minigolf, there's an outdoor course called Adventure Falls in Victoria Park and also a very cool indoor course called Puttify in the sports centre, which is super fun. The area around the Abbey is great for people watching and there are often street entertainers too. Have an amazing time!

AliTheMinx · 10/04/2026 17:58

If you like escape rooms, there are 2 in the House of Frankenstein and one called Tempo just behind the station.

RepublicOfPirates · 10/04/2026 19:04

Sally Lunds

The Costume Museum is closed until 2027. Try a ghost tour, they are fab.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 10/04/2026 19:07

I just walked & walked, investigating all the shops - the shopping is amazing!

tinyspiny · 10/04/2026 19:08

The open top bus tours are brilliant , do listen to the commentary and do go in the Abbey and the Abbey shop .

DivorcedButHappyNow · 10/04/2026 19:11

Chez Dominique is wonderful!

Bubobubo · 10/04/2026 19:11

Go and have a browse of Mr B's Emporium. It's such a lovely bookshop

I agree

She might be a bit young, but if reading is her (or your) thing the Persephone bookshop is wonderful if you find a spare hour (or 3!).

TheApocalypticiansApprentice · 10/04/2026 19:58

I was just coming back to suggest the Persephone shop!

gingersnappz · 10/04/2026 20:06

If she’s 11, she might enjoy the bowling and the neon golf at the leisure centre, or outdoor crazy golf in Victoria park. Victoria Park is also lovely to walk around and have a picnic on the grass in front of the Royal Crescent.

If she does like books as suggested by PPs, Topping & Co is also amazing.

Creams Cafe and Joe & The Juice are both popular with my teens, and Beefy Boys does amazing burgers and shakes. For pasta, Solina is my favourite.

gingersnappz · 10/04/2026 20:08

Just saw you said Thai and Japanese - Thaikhun is great for Thai, and Robun for Japanese.
