my boyfriend just sent me this photo of himself, but why does it have a heart at the bottom?

It really isn't. He's sent her a picture and added the heart emoji as his message. The heart is not a reaction, it's the message.

What’s the forwarded symbol for then at the side OP? Did it look like that when you got it in which case its been forwarded to you?

The heart isn’t part of the screenshot, that’s text he’s added to the picture as a message to you.

But the volume bar on the left of the image shows the image itself is a screenshot. Not sure why that might be though..

The ‘forward’ symbol is there for any photos on WhatsApp, isn’t it? So that you can click it and forward it if you want?
It just looks like a heart message with a photo that he’s sent to you, but if there’s a big back story about why you’ve jumped to thinking he’s sent it to someone else, maybe you need to rethink your relationship as you don’t trust him.

No that function appears at the bottom of a message you want to forward- not at the side

Have you uploaded the exact picture he sent or have you screenshotted it? The picture you've put up is a screenshot of an original picture message. Not a screenshot of a screenshot.

I think we are talking about different things? So if I have a photo in a WhatsApp thread , I click on it and the Forward function appears below. But if Ive actually forwarded it appears at the side. If I receive a forwarded photo that also appears at the side.

On my photo below, it is a photo my daughter took of our cat then sent to me. So the same as what OPs BF has done.
if I send a photo, or forward a photo on then the arrow it still appears at the side so I’m not sure why other people’s phones are different?

You are misunderstanding me.. The arrow appears at the bottom when you are about to forward a photo .. not after.

@Sidebeforeselfbut why did you mention the arrow at the side in the first place then? It sounded like it was a way to prove that OP’s BF had done something shady, when in fact the photo she has provided in the OP is just a screenshot of normal WhatsApp photo that she has received from her BF.
