If you wake your neighbours by hosting a party

PowerTrip · 08/04/2026 03:53

It should be a law that if you wake your neighbours up at silly o'clock because you're having a party, at full volume outside, you should have to invite those neighbours to the party.

I don't actually want to go but I do think they at least owe me a bloody drink or two given their shit attempts at karaoke and apparently inability to know their limits are the reason I'm at up before 4am.

Anyone else got inconsiderate neighbours.😢

They are still outside and currently murdering wonderwall. Even the dog looks unimpressed. Today is going to be a long day.

Fuck that !!
I feel your pain we had a neighbour that had parties any day of the week 5am finishes were not uncommon.

I have no idea what jobs they have, they live at the back of us. I bloody hope they are not at work today, they must be approximately 80% alcohol at this point.

Sorry to hear some of you have similar neighbours. These ones moved in at some point between now and last summer, not 100% sure when. Today is the first time they've had a party but it seems unlikely it's a one off. They have about 14 people currently in the garden/kitchen from what I can see.

Our neighbours have teenagers that throw awful parties. Everytime they go on holiday we have 2 weeks of nonsense. Last time I woke up to tomato ketchup all over my car as they’d had a food fight on the street at 3am.

The music is loud, they are up until the crack of dawn and the behaviour is awful. The parents don’t care and let them have the occasional party when they are home, but it has a firm end time of about midnight, which I can cope with. It also doesn’t end up on the street so the noise is contained to their garden instead of surround sound.

I can’t wait to move

PowerTrip · 08/04/2026 05:00

Oh wow that sounds horrific. Hopefully you can move soon and your new neighbours are lovely. I wonder if it's teenagers like this who weren't brought up to respect others that then move out and become people like my new neighbours.

OP posts:
PowerTrip · 08/04/2026 05:22

They appear to have now gone inside, no doubt to sleep off their fabulous hangovers whilst the rest of the street has to face their days on no sleep. In these circumstances it's acceptable to let small children out to play and to mow the grass before 7am right?

Yes, if you want to ensure all your neighbours get no sleep at all! Others might not have to get up with children so I’d let them have a lie in rather than lawn mowing before 0900.

It was intended as a joke.

Sadly most of my lovely neighbours will have to got to work today as it's a normal working day despite having no sleep. So the not so lovely neighbours who kept half the street up will luckily get to sleep off their party uninterrupted.

Not if you happen to walk past their house I’m about an hour’s time and lean on their door bell for a long minute.

Why didn’t you go round when they hit peak Oasis and ask them to stop? I always find it baffling that people are willing to put up with anti-social party noise past 3am. If they wake me I am going round!

PowerTrip · 08/04/2026 05:57

I didn't go round because I didn't want to leave my small child home alone. I'm also going to be honest they were clearly that intoxicated that it wouldn't have been safe or sensible to go to try and discuss it rationally.

I did call 101 to report but there wasn't much else I could do at the time.

Sadly I don't think they have a doorbell and I don't particularly wish to put myself in the position of deliberately antagonising them as lovely as it would be to interrupt their sleep.

No point in confronting pissed/drugged up cretins.
You can't reason with stupid.
We have a new idiot neighbour 3 years I report to council front door slamming,he pipes down for a bit.
I've an ace up my sleeve I've finally got his reg number because a pity if he gets a pull for drug driving🤫

We have neighbours like this and are hoping to move this year or next. It isn’t that simple though. I feel terrible guilt for the people who buy our house from us unaware what they’re moving in next to. But also terrible fear that the neighbours by our new house will be the same or worse. Noisy neighbours really do cause terrible psychological damage.

Overtime you become hyper vigilant and any music for instance start thinking oh no are they away to start up.

PowerTrip · 08/04/2026 06:50

Yes I absolutely didn't see that there would be any sense in trying to discuss it with them especially with how much they had, had to drink.

I can see your dilemma littlerobin but hopefully you find yourself somewhere with quieter more respectful neighbours when you eventually move. It's horrible how complete strangers can impact you so much and probably have no remorse in doing so.

OP posts:
LappingLouisa · 08/04/2026 06:51

I really feel for you, I had neighbours who also thought nothing of being out in the garden with all their pissed mates at 4am shouting and singing and talking absolute crap. It would then inevitably end up with a heated horrible argument between the couple whose house it was, with them both accusing each other of cheating. I eventually reported to the council as I couldn’t take anymore being kept awake until the early hours. It worked for a bit but soon started up again - I solved it by moving!

PowerTrip · 08/04/2026 07:14

It's quite sad how many of you posting have been driven to the drastic action of moving because of neighbours like this. Hopefully you all found peaceful new neighbours.

Funnily enough I've just heard one of our nice neighbours out in the garden whistling loudly whilst pegging out washing. Never heard him whistle before and part of me is hoping he's passive aggressively making a point. Although I suspect the noisy lot would ironically complain if someone woke them up.

Few years ago where I live there was a party and the neighbours friend knocked to ask them to keep it down. A party guest chased after the one who knocked and stabbed him and the man died. As PP said, with drink and drugs you don't know what you're going to get when the door is opened. Even in the case I'm talking about, if the host was sound and they knew them well, it was an attendee that murdered the man so an unknown response. The person has never been charged either so all those at the party covered for him so he must be someone not to mess with, again you just never know 😕

PowerTrip · 08/04/2026 07:22

Heyisforhorses oh that's horrible. The poor neighbour and how awful that everyone at the party covered for him.

It definitely highlights why it's sensible not to go round though, no matter how annoying the noise was it's not worth risking a life over.

Are there laws against night noise ?

If not, there should be.
The silent majority (excuse the pun) are the ones that suffer, once again.

I know and apparently it's well known who did it (local locals and authorities, I don't know as I'd only be a blown in), but they can't charge due to no one telling the truth.

I believe someone can be fined for excessive noise at night. I'd be interested to see how many fines were issued though.

The flat above us was an AirBnB for a short while and was let to party makers. You have my sympathy as the noise sets your nerves in edge. Mostly the police did nothing.

Fortunately one renter's party resulted in the flat being trashed and the police actually turning up. After that the flat went up for sale.

PS this was also aimed at the OP.
