Britain's trying to play both sides. Have the government mumble a weak no to the tangerine twat while having the king go stroke his ego.

I feel sorry for Charles having to go babysit trump but maybe he can jingle his car keys and trump will be distracted .

Always worked with my kids when they were being tiny little dicks.

Not a cance..if he can't do the job he needs to step down.

Do you quit your job when you are ill?
Or would you be happy to be sacked dues to ill health?

Didnt think so

likelysuspect · 07/04/2026 19:43

You think it’s a weak no?

it’s the strongest clearest no I’ve ever seen from a prime minister

Yes, I do.

The man has been desperately ill, give him a break

Try claiming back the percentage of your taxes that pays for this and see how far you get.

I'm predicting a convenient infection - nothing life threatening, but enough to cancel foreign travel. I think it's the only sensible way out of this without enraging Trump.

Or no fuel for the jet....

LlynTegid · 07/04/2026 20:13

Not his decision but I think the government should postpone the visit.

EtonMessy · 07/04/2026 20:20

It's not how a constitutional monarchy works , plus maybe he doesn’t want to rock the boat after what happened last time a King Charles went up against the government 🤴 🪓 😬😱

@IdaGlossop @previouslyknownas Charles didn't express a desire to be a tampon. He and Camilla were tapped in a private/intimate call in which he talked about 'living in her trousers' following an exchange which appears to be led by Camilla into sex-talk, then the following exchange happened

Oh, You're you're going to come back as a pair of knickers!"
Charles: "Or, God forbid, a Tampax! Just my luck!" (Laughs)
Camilla: "You are a complete idiot! (Laughs) Oh, what a wonderful idea!"
Charles: "My luck to be chucked down the lavatory and go on and on, forever swirling round on the top, never going down."

HelenaWilson · 07/04/2026 20:34

The late Queen didn't attend the 1971 CHOGM on the advice of the then PM, Edward Heath. It was said that she always deeply regretted it. Heath also advised her not to attend the next one, in 1973, but Trudeau, as host, and as Canadian PM of equal status to Heath within the Commonwealth, advised her that she should go, so she did.

If they are going expressly for the purpose of bettering the "special" relationship then how pissing off Trump help?

There is no such thing as having a good relationship with Trump. We have seen so many times how he treats people. The King and Queen have to go it’s too late to back out now.The visit should never have been suggested in the first place

On balance I think the King should go, unless Trump really does carry out his threats tonight. King Charles is probably the best diplomat the UK has at the moment, possibly for many years, and Trump still appears to be in awe of him. I think there’s potential for it to be a successful visit.

I despise Trump and I am not enthusiastic about monarchy but this post betrays a lack of understanding about how constitutional monarchy works.

The government calls the shots. I would like them to cancel it but it is not for the monarch to decide.

Totally agree. Only I'd go a step further, it's not just the monarchy she doesn't understand, it's politics and diplomacy. Trump is almost universally despised but our relationship with the US is critical to the success of the UK. Withdrawing from a state visit would be political and economic suicide. Peacekeeping and flag waving visits like this are an integral role of the monarchy.

PollyBell · 08/04/2026 08:13

Ok i will ask what does "man up' mean?

Trainspottering · 08/04/2026 08:19

The Uk government need to say NO to visiting a president who quite frankly should be sectioned along with a lot of the US population.

Seriously??

It means Be Brave And Stand Up For Yourself/Others

Charles visit will do nothing to keep Trump on side for more than 5 min (if that) - the man's a total loose canon. Equally, Charles experiencing a "sudden reversal in health" and being unable to attend will do nothing to harm our long term relationship with the US as its based on mutual benefit (which is why we value it far more highly than they do) and because the majority of the political establishment is under no illusion as to how the current administration is viewed internationally.
