identical twins?

I've always thought that identical twins were usually quite plain looking but obviously kept this to myself. Recently a friend of mine found out that she was expecting twins and rang me up all excited to tell me. During the conversation she said "my Mum is upset cos they are going to be identical and that means they won't be as attractive their older siblings"

I asked her how she felt about this hurtful comment and she replied that her mum was right - how often do you see good looking twins? and you are lucky if one is even attractive.

I know obviously that looks are such a small part of a child's make up but I'm the wrong person to try and boost my friends confidence on this even though I have tried.

What do other Mumsnetters think?

I was best friends with identical twins at school, they were gorgeous, sort of Kylie with curves and famed for their beauty. Not the sort of friends a puppyfat ridden girl wants between the ages of 9-13!

Can't think of any famous identical male twins. Ashton Kushter has a twin brother but sadly for him he's not identical and is v v geeky looking.

not that it makes any difference in the long run (just having a pedantic morning) but can i just say the Olsen twins are not identical. I saw a documentary on them and they said that.

I'm sorry but I find the OP extremely offensive and ignorant. How would this post have gone if she had put in "black" instead of "identical twins"? Surely she must know that some Mumsnetters would have identical twins or know people who do. Therefore she must have know her op would be contentious.

Anyway, how does she know she is having identical twins? It's only possible to tell before birth if the are b/g and therefore fraternal.

Gawd I went to school with a GORGEOUS pair of ID twins (male).

I was at school with a pair that were known as "the ugly twins" (obviously not to their faces).

they are the only twins I have ever known, apart from my uncles but they are not identical.

Am sure identical twins are no more likely or unlikely to be "attractive" than the rest of the population, plus what a ridiculous thing to be worrying about anyway.

I know some groegous identical twins. In particular, Ican think of two brothers I know who are stunning and complete ladykillers, complete with all the cheesy, stereotypical tales about pretending to be each other to pull more girls etc. Also know two beautiful identical twin sisters.
