1).Lovely, small Primary school with lots of green/outside space to play

2). Safe cul de sac where children play out on bikes and nip to each others homes

3). Beach nearby

4). Countryside & woods nearby

5). Preferably Cornwall area-Newquay, Perranporth

If you live in a place like this, is life amazing?!

We almost had that in the north west when our children were at primary. They were always playing out on bikes in the cul-de-sac with the neighbours. Parents took turns to watch them. Although our favourite beach was a 40 minute drive away. There were closer but my children wouldnt entertain them.

Now we are further away from the beach but still have everything else. Their high school is very green with fabulous views. The dog gets walked in the woods every day

This is my house/area and kids school except i’m north west scotland sorry 😔 Aside from the weather at times it is pretty great! Our house is older though and is a very rural community but was also very affordable. We are in a small rural village cul-de-sac of 3/2 bed semis (largely ex council from 60’s so was affordable. Most are bought privately but a few council owned still) with a beach a mile away and forestry trails that start further up the street.

DC goes to a small rural school of around 30 pupils total, next to beach area and mountain views. They go there all the time in summer term and periodically the rest of the year. There are even smaller schools in the neibouring villages as well all with a similar set up. It’s really great if you are outdoorsy in anyway and vast cycle trails, kayaking/paddle boarding etc. But i do miss the convenience of town life sometimes and i have a 40-45 min commute to work

I live in this exact place, but in Scotland. Sorry!

Even further, New Zealand. Lots of places like this here. Even in some cities.

Yes, I live there, except I'm SE. I personally don't have children, but kids ride their bikes along our lane, we have fields at the end, 10min walk to beach and apparently the local school is very good.

AnonymousCapybara · 06/04/2026 10:19

I live in a place like this, but north coast of Scotland I'm afraid. I love where I live.

Notmyreality · 06/04/2026 10:20

Yes these places exist but your last line implies you are after some picture perfect vision of life you have in your head. Rarely does life work out that way. Seek your dreams but learn to appreciate what you have also.

Nannyfannybanny · 06/04/2026 10:22

My parents had a cottage in Cornwall, those areas are really windy. Good if you want to surf.

Imowningup · 06/04/2026 16:35

youve described where I live but it’s in Scotland.

Foxytights · 06/04/2026 17:08

How about Suffolk eg: Reydon near Southwold, Kessingland near Lowestoft, Stutton near Ipswich?

Statsquestion1 · 06/04/2026 17:10

Yes, but I’m in Ireland.

andrinaballerina · 06/04/2026 17:11

Newquay didn’t work for us (far too many houses and not enough infrastructure or professional jobs), Devon has better options and you’re still connected to civilisation via the M5 and main train line.

Wanderdust · 06/04/2026 17:13

Seems like Scotland is the closest! For holiday or actually putting down roots?

MarchionessOfMayhem · 06/04/2026 17:14

Lanner near Redruth in Cornwall.

How far is that from Newquay/Perranporth area? I heard Redruth is a bit dodgy, is that true?

It's about 15 miles. Lanner and surrounding areas are lovely. Redruth has a poor high street but lots of services. Not from Falmouth if you like Beaches. You could also look at Stithians.

Pollqueen · 06/04/2026 17:38

I live in a place similar, apart from the beach but we're surrounded by fishing lakes and it's lovely. Very calm, beautiful and quiet

Parents are in Goonhavern, so would need to be close to them ideally
