To think millions of litres of fuel shouldn't be wasted on sending a rocket to the moon

With this current fuel crisis it's total madness sending a rocket to the moon. What is the point. Nobody is even going to land on the moon. Doubt therei s any oil on the moon.

Like it or not the supply chains for pretty much everything rely on the internet. As long as your self-sufficiency extends to never needing medical care, transport, sanitation, detergents, tools, building materials etc then you'll be peachy.

As I say if I die, I die. The medicine I needed today isn't available. The chemist can't get it. Hasn't been able to for months. I'll have to do without - that's with the internet.

Transport - Mostly I use my bike. Sometimes the train, but that's only for treats so I that won't be devastating.

Sanitation? I have a long drop lav.

Tools? Got all the tools I need.

Building materials? What am I going to build? Might need to repair stuff I suppose but I have done so without buying new materials for nearly a decade now.

Detergents? You might have me there. I'll just have to smell.

55 years thanks to satellites and space technology. Gotten quicker, easier and cheaper thanks to it.

Satellites came in 1957.

Again. International phone calls. It got better and easier due to satellites.

I don't want to call anyone.
Are you on Elon's payroll?

Well you can fuck off to Mars with the horrible fucking abusive cunt too then and stay there.

Imagine thinking Elon Musk has ever done anything worthwhile, good or useful in his life. Yep, Mars is the best place for space cadets like you! 😂

He's done so much. Created multiple successful companies. Employs thousands of people in highly skilled, well paying and intellectual jobs. He's massively reduce transportation costs to the USA. He also spurred and helped the EV revolution. I love Elon!

Good for you. Lots of us have family that love and care about us. And we like to speak to them. (And they like to speak to us) Facetimed DMum today. He lives across the pond and it's always nice to catch up.

And yet here you are, on the Internet, chatting away without any sense of irony whatsoever.

@ProjectHailMary I think our place is on Earth. I was offering my opinion that it's possible to be fascinated by space science, and pro research and consequent technological advancement, while opposing colonisation. I don't need anyone to agree with me and I don't have to be right.

If the internet "went away" at least we wouldn't have to hear from her.

I've already answered that one.
It's occasional. It's amusing. If it stopped tomorrow it would only save me time.

Off you pop then.

It's always amazing when people complain about modern technology whilst using it every day of their lives. The privilege of that is just completely lost on such people.

International phone calls don’t go over satellite links.

Also, ‘gotten’. Is that you Elon? Stop pretending to be American, you don’t fool anyone.

I haven't complained about modern technology. I've said I have no interest in it other than as a tool. I don't care if it functions, how it functions or if it stops functioning.

A privilege is to be able to wake up in the morning and see the sun. It's not tapping on a machine you paid for and arguing with people you will never meet.

Shame you have no interest in technology, how it works and how it's used to better society.

I know. With the fact everyone I know is struggling to feed themselves now the amount of money they wasting to send a large firework up is embarrassing....

Again it's a fraction of total government spending. Again the innovation and gains we get.

We had a big takeaway yesterday evening and DC were stuffed. We had some healthy home cooked food today for dinner.

I remember international phone calls in the 70s as my uncle moved to the US. At Christmas my grandparents would have to book a call through the international operator to speak to him because there were so few available lines. The cost was so high that the calls were always very brief and only a few times a year. In between those calls they relied on short airmail letters.

Zoom is so much better.

Fuck up what exactly? There's no life on the moon.

Sure, because the thousands of workers whose wages are being paid by building and launching Artemis are not members of the public.

International direct dialing to the USA started in 1971. It was expensive though for sure.

Yes, it started in 1971 but at first it very much depended on where you were calling from and to. Full coverage took years to roll out.
