Why do people try to sell such complete tat on Vinted?!

By “tat,” I mean the selection of clothing on Vinted: tops and trousers so worn they’ve got more bobbles than fabric, stains and holes that absolutely did not come from “one tiny snag.”

I’ve literally binned better stuff without a second thought, so I’m honestly fascinated by the confidence of someone listing their ancient M&S top... complete with washing‑machine ventilation holes for a fiver!!

What exactly possesses people to upload clothing that is only suitable for the bin?

And so much more practical and less stressful than the £60 white Paul Smith t-shirt that a child wore to my nursery class a few years ago…🤣

I did warn the parents that I could not be held responsible!

🤣🤣🤣 for a toddler! I can’t even be trusted to wear a white t-shirt in my 30s.

So being poor means you should be happy with dirty and holey clothes? Do you think they should eat rotten food as well?

Edited

Why are the charities distributing this stuff that’s so unsuitable? I know most charities are corrupt but they could at least only send things that won’t offend the service users,

I think if people are kind enough to donate stuff then the charity should go through it beforehand. If they are and people are still complaining, I’m not sure what needs to be done. I have clothes that are in decent condition but not great quality - I wouldn’t like to donate them now in case they burn them.!

Nobody is advocating for rotten food FFS. But when things are donated, then you get what you get.

Anyway this thread has been quite eye opening. I shan’t be donating to these charities again.

Can I ask why any of you go onto Vinted so much if you are just judging other people’s stuff?

is there a rule on Vinted forcing the sale of every listed item?

Because I can look at what I want in my free time. HTH

Bobbly clothes aren’t bad for sending little ones to nursery! I don’t send my DS to his childminder in anything nice as he’ll get paint/mud/other fun stuff all over himself, so I have been getting him some ‘used’ looking stuff from Vinted just so if they get stained, it doesn’t matter!

Each to their own. I personally didn't send my child to nursey in bobbly worn clothing and I wouldn't do the same now if I had anymore. I like my kids to look presentable in public but we are all different and have different views on 'presentable' I suppose.

Did that make you feel better? ☺️

I have bought shein when I was losing weight as it was cheap and I have some 'house jumpers' that are from shein as they were only £3-4 each. Shein is just hit and miss. Some stuff is decent and some stuff is terrible.
I would never buy shein from vinted though! by the time you add on postage, you could buy it brand new from shein direct

Yes but SHEIN has so many ethics problems that it’s better to buy it from
vinted to keep it out of landfill a bit longer it’s more sustainable and no human cost either, and you get to help out a uk based poor or eco conscious perosn

I realised lately that I kept clothes I had an attachment to because they fitted well or looked well on wayyy too long assuming they still looked as good even though they were then misshapen/ a bit bobbly. It was actually only through threads on here that made me begin to see that actually the things I thought ‘this will help someone’ probably wouldn’t. I’d guess the people on vinted might think similar

I am totally guilty of that . BNWT in my wardrobe but here I am sat in clothes I've had for ages and when I go out in an hour I'll bypass my new shoes and put on my usuals .

I don't get any pleasure in wearing new stuff . I don't however buy from eBay or Vinted nor do I sell stuff .

Don't you know? Desperation.

People can try and sell what they want to. If people buy it is completely another matter. And why people buy what you, or anyone else's opinion, is 'crap' is not anyone else's business, is it.
The really great thing is nobody has to buy anything that is for sale on any of these sites and as a consequence nobody has to judge what is for sale, either.

Yes but too often list condition as “very good”!

Also don’t understand people selling half used candles and cosmetics .

I will now only buy where I can see amazing photos; track record of strong sales, decent description. If the price is high I will often ask a question or ask for a better photo of the cuffs or labels or whatever

I always look at what else for sale - if there’s lot of old tat even if the thing I want to buy looks fine, I steer clear
