To have no idea how/what products to use to clean a glass showerscreen.

So prior to this, I've only ever had polyester shower curtains that I laundered in the washing machine occasionally and would have to replace when the mold stains became fixed.

As a more eco alternative, for the first time in my life, we have invested in a hinged, frameless, glass shower screen. We squeegee it religiously after every shower but it has become marked with limescale nonetheless and the seal at the bottom is starting to grow mould.

Full disclosure: it is screening an electric shower over our bath.

How do you clean yours?

Vinegar spray works well on limescale.

Seawolves · 29/03/2026 20:23

I spray mine with shower spray then squeegee off and wipe any drops off with a microfibre cloth.

user2848502016 · 29/03/2026 20:26

I just clean with my normal bathroom spray and a microfibre cloth, mould spray and scrub the seal when needed.
Don’t live in a limescale area though

Bearbookagainandagain · 29/03/2026 20:27

Vinegar or shower spray

Cat3rpillar7 · 29/03/2026 20:27

Viakal will get it completely off but it is strong stuff

Bokeitup · 29/03/2026 20:28

Fairy liquid, scrub, rinse, window vac to remove water, finished with a glass cloth round the edges to mop up the last bit of water.

khaa2091 · 29/03/2026 20:29

Viakil! I try and squeegee after every shower.

i live in a very hard water area though.

PottingBench · 29/03/2026 20:30

We live in a very hard water area so limescale is a problem.

I mix white vinegar with warm water and soak a cloth in it. Wipe the screen all over and leave for a few minutes, then rinse off and dry. Sparkling clean and better than any other product I've used for getting rid of limescale.

Geiirksns · 29/03/2026 20:30

Astonish white vinegar is actually magic and squeegee after every shower

gabsdot45 · 29/03/2026 20:31

My heart was broken with trying to keep my shower door clean. I saw a YouTube video which recommended using a scraper blade to scrap all that limescale off. When you've done that use a squeegee after each shower and then clean with a vinegar spray .
Every few months repeat the scraper blade process.
This has worked very well for me.

The most amazing thing I’ve found (hard water area) is a tub of citric acid from Amazon, mixed some to a paste and then wiped on, left for a few minutes and then rinsed off followed by Tesco post shower spray.

FlorenceBlack · 29/03/2026 20:33

Citric Acid dissolved in hot water with a squeeze of Fairy liquid, very eco friendly. You can get the exact quantities from Nancy Birtwhistle’s Instagram.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/03/2026 20:33

Vinegar spray works well. I’ve never found anything environmentally friendly that can treat the mold though. I usually soak cotton wool in bleach and leave it around the seal overnight.

MrsWhites · 29/03/2026 20:34

Spray bottle - mix warm water, fairy liquid and white vinegar, spray on, wipe around and then squeegee off. You can thank me later 😉

PC20 · 29/03/2026 20:38

My shower door got all limed up.
It was a major cleaning exercise with white vinegar, a scraper and a lot of elbow grease. Since then without fail I use a Karcher window vac after every shower.....2 years on still looking good.

Wecanagreetodisagree · 29/03/2026 20:40

I have a white vinegar and water solution in a spray bottle and I spray the screen just before I come out of the shower ever time

Asenseofcalm · 29/03/2026 20:46

I might give the white vinegar mixed with warm water suggestion a try.

But at the moment I spray with Viakal, rub over glass with sponge, leave for 5 minutes and rinse off. I then use Method Blue glass cleaner, rub over with sponge and use a squeegee to wipe off. Job done, 10 minutes max and sparkly clean.

Re seal at bottom
It’s taking 6 years of not cleaning this very well to finding an absolute brilliant product, removes mould instantly and appears to provide a seal which prevents it gathering again. I highly recommend Magic Mould from musthaveideas.co.uk

Runningshorts · 29/03/2026 20:57

Cilit bang limescale remover spray. Vinegar didn't work for me but this took the limescale off very easily.

Twirlywirlywooo · 29/03/2026 21:10

Magic eraser to get rid of the built up stains
Then car wash & wax

lochmaree · 29/03/2026 21:12

I use a cloth or scrubbie with shower gel on and scrub it down while I have conditioner in my hair 😆 not every time but whenever it looks like it needs it. Semi hard water area. For mould on seals I'd leave bleach on a few hours then rinse off.

Createausername1970 · 29/03/2026 21:25

I use Mr Muscle shower spray after each shower and let it be while I clean my teeth, then return to shower and use a window scraper thingy, top to bottom.

Every couple of weeks I give the shower heads, taps, metal shower hose etc., a burst of linescale remover.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 29/03/2026 21:32

Soapy water and fine grade 0000 steel wool. Dry with a microfiber.

MaryBeardsShoes · 29/03/2026 21:34

I tried vinegar once but then one of my students at school said “oh why does it smell like a chippy in here” so I haven’t done it again. How do you do it without getting vinegar smells on you?

Also viakal is great.

Wonderknicks · 29/03/2026 21:34

Nancy Birtwhistle - Citric acid & washing up liquid. Cheap as chips & very effective. Has the advantage of not stinking like vinegar does.

Handeyethingyowl · 29/03/2026 21:34

I just use Windolene.
