I was at school in Suffolk in the late 90s and I haven’t heard of those words. I did hear the word ‘pov’ sometimes, which meant a poor person, but I would never have said it.

Well as someone who went to "St ..... High School" in the 90s/00s there's nothing wrong with it.

Also if you have been to a seperate infant and junior school it's not really a 'secondry school' then is it?

But to answer your q op, no. What do they mean?

(Midlands)

The area in Suffolk where I went to school in the late 90s/early 00s had primary, middle and high school. So our high school was, unsurprisingly, called a high school.

(Never heard either of those words though!)

Tigerbalmshark · 29/03/2026 17:03

Never heard of them either. OP sounds a lot like these were specific to your individual school I’m afraid!

ToffeePennie · 29/03/2026 17:04

I started secondary in 2000 and never heard them.

OfDragonsDeep · 29/03/2026 17:05

I’m in Suffolk and never heard of them.

I left in 2002. We had a 3 tier system here, primary, middle and high school. High school was the standard name.

Well I went to St XXX High School so yes, I say high school. I now teach in XXX High School. It says it on the front of the building. Both schools have been around since the 70s so it’s not a recent thing.

OP, I was in high school 1995-2001 and I’ve never heard those words 🤷🏻‍♀️ I do remember ‘ya trout’ being a favourite insult tho.

Yes because I went to X High School in the nineties. Are we pretending it's a new Americanised term like the people who complain about Santa and Mother's Day?

Never heard those words though, OP!

Another one who went to High School in Suffolk here, I left in 1998, and never heard either of those words.

At the time, my school and the 4 nearest, off the top of my head, were all called ‘xxxx High School’, I didn’t live in one of the bits with primary, middle and high schools, but my friends just a few miles away did. Even now, (I’m still in Suffolk) the majority round me are still called xxxx high school.
