How many and what type of specifically Easter based things do you do?

Is that really all you do with your kids?

It's one thing more than you've told us you do.

Sofado · 29/03/2026 11:31

I would say that the main Easter activity is church and more church.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 29/03/2026 11:33

We go out for the day to somewhere historical. We’re going Beamish this year, haven’t been for a while. We’ll do an Easter egg hunt in the garden (which we do every year), Sunday lunch at mil’s. Beach walk. I’ve got some figures to paint. DDs are 16 and 14. The 16yo will of course be studying for her GCSE’s too.

Tonissister · 29/03/2026 11:37

Buy and eat easter eggs and hot cross buns
Have fish on Good Friday
Roast a leg of lamb and invite family over
Bake almond cake

Some years I also go to Palm Sunday and Easter Day services; make chocolate nests, bake my own hot cross buns, make fancy marbled boiled eggs and go to an egg hunt or lay an egg hunt trail in the garden.

Never made an easter bonnet.

But DC are grown up now and so I am back to the basics of just buying, cooking and eating trad foods.

MintoTime · 29/03/2026 11:37

Absolutely nothing. I don’t even know when Easter weekend is - it catches me out every year. My kids generally have to buy their own eggs and often there aren’t any left as we miss the date.

i might try to make hot cross buns as you can’t buy nice ones here (France).

My MIL used to send a compete outfit for each child at Easter, which I am told is traditional.

mushmallow · 29/03/2026 11:38

Roast lamb on Easter Sunday at my parents’, with an egg hunt and egg and spoon races.

No need to criticise others.

It would be polite to set out what you do before judging others.

Good point.

What do you do OP? It seems unfair of you to expect us to reveal what we do and let you decide whether it's good enough when you haven't told us what you do.

I hope it's better than eating Easter Eggs with your children...

TwelvePiecesOfFlair · 29/03/2026 11:42

I used to buy kids some new clothes, paint eggs, have a roast on Easter Sunday at my mums and eat chocolate eggs. Now I just do the eggs and the roast.

OttersOnAPlane · 29/03/2026 11:43

When they were little we did egg hunts in the garden, once they got bigger it's just the excuse to eat chocolate at breakfast time.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 29/03/2026 11:43

Oooh, yes- chippy tea on Good Friday! It’s what my dear departed grandmother would have wanted - no meat on Good Friday. There’s rules that must be followed, and ones that involve me being able to justify a chippy tea are the best.

Runnersandtoms · 29/03/2026 11:44

When they were little, loads and loads. Egg hunts at home, at grandma's and organised events. Craft stuff. Lego competition. Dyeing or painting real eggs.

They're 15, 17 and 19 this year but pretty sure I'll still be expected to organise an egg hunt for them lol. For several years I've done one with clues all over the house eventually leading to their big egg, and one in the garden where they each have a colour to look for. Also visiting grandma for afternoon tea (standard for us at Easter)

Octaviathethird · 29/03/2026 11:45

Just an egg hunt at home on the Sunday culminating in finding the big eggs, and sometimes we do a national trust egg hunt. A couple of year ago we did an Easter cruise on a canal boat but that was only because eggs were to be given. School do a cake and egg decorating competition so we take part in that. We're not religious so it's all about the chocolate for us, if an activity looks interesting we'll do it but if it looks particularly religious we would avoid like the plaque!

Lidlisthebusiness · 29/03/2026 11:56

We do an egg hunt in the garden, decorate bonnets and other crafty things and will make some chocolate nests. I'll get some hot cross buns too, but no one likes lamb so it'll be a chicken roast.

Not at all, was just asking a normal question and had some sarky replies

OP, you made the very first unpleasant comment on the thread.
As several people have mentioned, it would be polite to do people the courtesy of answering their question, e.g. what do you do at Easter?

Love the fish & chips tea

What an odd thing to say! Fish on Good Friday is traditional. In fact, fish on every Friday is traditional too but not as many people adhere to that.

FurForksSake · 29/03/2026 12:10

We might go to a palace / English heritage / national trust on Good Friday, I’m having a looong mri on Saturday afternoon, swimming for one kid Sunday morning, Easter egg hunt, roast for dinner (steaks for the kids) and crack on. Monday we might do whatever we didn’t on Good Friday or nothing depending on my health.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 29/03/2026 12:12

We go to church

You said "you" in your original post, you didn't mention kids.

My partner and I have a roast lamb lunch. When I was a child, we just did Chapel (I went every Sunday) and got given Easter eggs. There weren't really any other "activities" in my South Yorkshire village in the 60s and 70s.

dinbin · 29/03/2026 12:17

church
hat parade at school
chocolate
hunt
roast

not sure what else you would do tbh

Not at all, was just asking a normal question and had some sarky replies

What 'sarky' replies? You say you asked a normal question out of curiosity. Other posters have also asked normal questions because they were curious as to what you do or expect at Easter.

You're expecting answers but don't want to give any yourself, despite being asked. It's very impolite. As is starting threads and then the OP doesn't bother to come back to the thread, there seems to be a good few of those this weekend.

Sartre · 29/03/2026 12:27

I set up an egg hunt in the garden on Easter Sunday and make them bunny shaped pancakes for breakfast then we tend to go do a National Trust egg hunt during the day. It isn’t as big of deal as Christmas when we do loads and loads of different things.

Shinyhappyapple · 29/03/2026 12:46

If the school Easter holiday fell so that there was a week off before Easter weekend (as is this year) I would buy a couple of Easter themed craft kits. We often went away over Easter bank holiday weekend. If we visited my brother then we would go to church and do an Easter egg hunt (although I think these activities were more down to SIL).
