Your first love, has it affected the way you feel about the opposite sex?

Most people remember their first love, whether it was a positive experience, or a horrible one, a fleeting or a lasting one.
Does it affect the way you now feel about men, or women, if you are gay/bi or male, or if it was horrible, have you managed to move on unscathed?

YANBU....My heart was broken, but I got over it with no lasting ill effects.
YABU....It's put me off trusting anyone else....ever again.

My first and only was amazing and lasted over 15 years until he died.

It's made me not want to date at all now. I know I'll never find anyone half as good as he was, and it doesn't seem worth the effort and hassle to chase something that will always be lesser.

It's been two years since he died and I've felt basically no desire to date at all since. Almost like it turned me asexual overnight.

That's sad, l can understand why losing the love of your life would curtail your interest in ever wanting a new relationship.
My own mum never wanted another man after my father left, not because no one could reach his standards, more because she had no intention of trusting a man again.

Thanks for the replies, and so far, everyone has remained optimistic, which I think is testament to the human spirit.
I know from reading on here, sometimes women say they are are sworn off men because they have been let down, and I do get that, but persoanlly I think it's great the majority get back in the saddle, so to speak, x

Haha my first love was another girl. We were both teens. Just fizzled out. The first bloke I loved was a pita but it didn't put me off others

I wouldn't say it left me unscathed, it affected me both positively and negatively. On one hand it has caused me to be less trusting, which at times as affected my relationship with my husband. However it taught what shit I will not tolerate in a relationship, it made me never "just let it slide because you love them" and thats a good thing.

It is a good thing.
Every relationship can be a learning curve.
