Eating sushi on a train… AIBU?

I had to grab some dinner on the way to the train. I didn’t fancy a sandwich so I got sushi. I didn’t give it any thought at the time but felt somewhat self conscious as it got it out on the train. Had I thought about it, I probably wouldn’t have got it. So I wondered how many people would be appalled if someone ate sushi on their train?

FWIW I don’t think sushi smells particularly but I accept I like it so maybe I don’t notice.

Sushi is pretty inoffensive.

Egg or tuna sandwiches would have been worse!

I once had to endure a flight next to a man who got out a tuna and onion (who the fuck eats that anyway?!) sandwich to eat. It was honestly dreadful.

sushi though, I don’t think it smells too bad.

In Scotland we call this a tuna crunch, usually with red onion. It is not a food for confined spaces!

It was delicious (sorry)

Ohhh I so badly want sushi now 😭😂

If it’s sushi with raw sashimi grade fish then it should be so fresh it doesn’t smell fishy at all. Though most prepackaged sushi isn’t raw, it’s more often smoked salmon and cooked prawns IME. Afaik they’re generally socially acceptable too.

Someone on a station platform sat on the bench next to me and opened a packet of smoked salmon - I instantly threw up as I'm allergic to fish - it may have put her off her snack!

The only issue I can think of is trying to use chopsticks as the train goes over points.

I personally wouldn’t have a problem but my daughter on the other hand, she has a MAJOR aversion to fish. It wouldn’t matter that is doesn’t smell, she would insist it smelt and could be violently sick. She has been working on it over the years the best she can and has come along way. In the past I haven’t even been able to have tinned tuna in the house! (We don’t now ever have any type of fish in the house mind). The only time I have fish (scampi) is if me and her dad go out to eat and even then she can tell I have had it when I come home. Her work colleagues do not have any fish products for lunch if it’s her shift in either

Sushi barely smells at all, less so even than something like ham which is considered fine.

If sushi smells it’s probably gone off!

Sushi is a very standard thing to eat on a train if you’re going to eat anything I’d have thought- compact and easy to eat!

Much better than something like a McDonalds!

Curry before midday and cornish pasties at any time of day or night - both vile, should be banned from public transport. Jubilee line of an evening is the worst - there's a pastie kiosk in Waterloo station which many many travellers on the Jubilee seem unable to resist.🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
