Delusional sellers on Vinted

I’m wondering why some people on Vinted price items that are clearly worth nowhere near what they’ve been priced at? Just seen some old, well-worn Doc Marten boots, with scuffs, for £160. There’s plenty of the same ones in better condition for around £70, even brand new ones for about £130. I don’t even think they’re as much as £160 to buy new. Do people just not research how much they’re items are worth or are they chancing it in case some idiot comes along and actually buys it?

I don't charge stupidly high prices but I always price a bit higher to leave room for hagglers. Only a tiny percentage of my buyers have paid outright without sending offers.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 17/03/2026 17:03

I’ve occasionally looked on Vinted but never felt inspired to buy anything. The thing that amazes me is that an awful lot of sellers don’t iron/steam the clothes they are hoping to sell. Page after page of creased, misshapen items that look like old rags. Surely you would present them properly if you are hoping that someone will buy them?

LadyVioletBridgerton · 17/03/2026 17:12

The thing I don’t get is when I see people with loads and loads of brand new (with tags on) stuff. Are they shoplifting? Surely no-one could have 20 plus brand new items in their wardrobe which they never bothered to take back to the shop.

This puts me off too or a messy house in the background.

So many delusional sellers in numerous ways.

I frequently see things listed for the price they cost new from a shop as confirmed by the price tag in the photo.

Why on earth would anybody buy an item from Vinted in that case?

Unless it was rare and discontinued, but that isn’t the case in those I have seen.

Descriptions saying “just want what I paid for it” or similar.

Who are these people and what on earth does the rest of their life look like?!

And why didn’t they just return it to the shop if it’s unworn with tag still on? That’s what I never get.

Cherrysoup · 17/03/2026 17:37

I might sell for £6, accept £4. I think people see Vinted as the cheaper option. I bought Clarks tweed shoes as new for £10, checked on eBay last night and they wanted minimum £30.

I was somewhat put off one item because the seller had awful bare feet in the picture! I did chuckle in disbelief at one seller mentioning marks on the item with a cheery ‘Pretty sure they’d come out with a wash’. So wash it?!

Confess I love Vinted, pretty addictive, ime.

Unforgettablefire · 17/03/2026 17:46

I was looking at a cuckoo clock it was £45. She said in the listing the same one is £180 in the shops. No it isn’t. I looked for it and it’s a tenner cheaper than what she’s selling it for.
I told her but go no reply Grin

On a lighter note someone was selling a stick. A small stick like a twig, limited edition barely used. Last time I looked just under 400 people liked it and it’s gone now, don’t know if someone bought it or it was taken down.

Netaporter · 16/03/2026 07:29

I think when it comes to shoes, there is a market for ‘well worn’ shoes for gentlemen with a proclivity 😉🤮 They are usually priced to reflect that.

omg!
Yuk.
now thinking of digging through bottom of wardrobe. 😂

nomas · 17/03/2026 18:04

I sell quite a bit on Vinted and eBay and I am so tired of the messages from people on Vinted asking why I’ve priced my items so highly.

Why don’t these twats understand that no one is forcing them to buy?!

I hope they grimace when they see the ‘Sold’
sign flash up on my items. Sold for the asking price, or very near offer.

I’m currently selling things a few things I bought pre-kids that have never been worn. I had recurrent mc’s so my weight fluctuated a lot so I kept them incase.

Netcurtainnelly · 17/03/2026 20:44

Not everyone can get out to the shops.

Or state it needs washing. Then bloody well wash it.

TheHouse · 18/03/2026 08:20

The delusion works both ways. I had sold a long sleeved Ralph Lauren top. I had stated it was not new. Minor imperfections. Photos attached etc. I got a message from the buyer zooming in on the tiniest imperfection and wanting a refund. I sold that top for £2.50.
I just thought whatever, you saddo. Won’t be selling to him again.

Fiddlesticks1 · 17/03/2026 15:46

I queried with a seller, selling new item with tags that by the time I had paid postage and buyers fee it was way more than it was selling for in the shop. Their reply was did I want it. Crikey no I didn’t.
last summer someone was selling flip flops showing a picture of them wearing them and they had nail fungus. What the heck you couldn't even have paid me to have them. Yuk.

Haha I know, some of the photos of people wearing the item, especially shoes & tight fitting clothes, just reminds you too much that it’s been clinging to a random sweaty body just days before and is actually really off-putting!

This is me!

No it’s my mil has a shopping addiction. Some of it is nice but I can’t house that many clothes. I just can’t. So may as well pass it on straight away

TailorTack · 19/03/2026 06:44

I completely agree with you OP.
I found a lovely Hush cardigan on Vinted. But I was surprised by the price. It was worn, used, and selling for £100.
I went to Hush website and found the exact same cardigan in my size selling at £63.
I contacted the Vinted seller to tell her, and included a link to the cardigan on Hush as proof of the price, and asked if she'd be willing to sell hers for less.
Her reply: "You should definitely buy it from Hush! It's cheaper and brand new! My one is more expensive and already well worn! No I'm not dropping my price!"
I was like, eh?
So I bought the new one from Hush. Haven't stopped wearing it. And hers is still sitting on Vinted un-sold.
Mind boggling.

Hobsonschoiceofhob · 17/03/2026 15:08

@Wildgoati had this exact scenario. A new with tags item that I knew was in the sale for £8 less than her price. So explained and offered and just got a flat no !

But if she bought it full price why should she sell it for cheaper just because you saw it reduced? She is happy to wait for it to sell and you should have just bought it for the reduced price from the shop.

I don’t think it needed querying though, hence her frustrated response. I just offer a price and leave it to them to decide.

Yes, this. I have sometimes put in a lower offer and sent a quick message immediately after explaining that with Vinted fees and postage it would be cheaper to buy in the shop, but no worries if they didn't want to accept. They have always accepted when I have done this, but I wouldn't have minded if they didn't.

Breadandbuttermarmite · 19/03/2026 07:00

I stopped selling on Vinted last night. I have been selling enough to pay for a small
DIY job. I sold everything at £3 or less which was great as things sold quickly.

But the shysters chancing their luck for a refund. I've had it twice now and the second time I refused as the item was in really lovely condition and referred back to the photos - she messaged me and said "it's only £2, why won't you refund me and let me keep it?"

she openely admitted she wanted a refund and to keep the item because it was only £2. Anyway, I said no and she left me a bad review!

It's just so unfair. Now I have a bad review I assume I wouldn't be able to sell anything else! (As a buyer, I wouldn't buy anything from a seller with a bad review!)

I did see a Primark dress being modelled on there last night and listed for £20 🤣

Ninerainbows · 19/03/2026 07:05

I only sell things that I know I will get minimum £10 for because frankly people looking to spend that are easier to deal with. It's the equivalent of charging for things on FB Marketplace to weed out the dross vs giving something away free and getting CFs asking for delivery of the free item.

I’m interested in why you wanted hers, second hand?

Why waste time contacting her when it is obvious your better option is the new, much cheaper one, straight from Hush?

The wash comment constantly amazes me too.
As do clothes laid on unmade beds.

There seems to be a lot of vinted related complaints about other people recently

If someone overprices something they will either sell it or not like anything else

People can choose to buy it or not we wouldn't know why they do it
