Ai slop. Don't interact with it nor give it any attention.

Mmmchocolatebuttons · 16/03/2026 07:22

I've asked my mum for pictures of her as a teen/young person and that was 90s 🤷‍♀️ Just out of curiosity really.

I haven't seen the social media thing you're referring too though.

What makes you say this? This OP, has been posting and commenting for at least a year.

I think they mean the meme idea, not the op.

Screamingabdabz · 16/03/2026 08:46

My fashion-savvy dd has been through all my 90s nostalgia-keepsake clothes and has worn them.

Pepperedpickles · 16/03/2026 08:46

It’s just an excuse for women my age to post a reel about how amazing they were / are and how they were wild once. Just scroll past if you don’t like it.

It is indeed social media bollocks, although I saw a women impersonating Melania Trump which made me laugh it was savage !

H202too · 16/03/2026 08:49

I was fascinated by the Holly Willoughby one didn't realise she was on the magazines I bought as a kid.
You are right though my usually savvy with trends daughter didn't have a clue when I asked her.

Natsku · 16/03/2026 08:50

My teenager and her friends have all been discussing lately what their mums looked like in the 90s/00s and saying that my generation had much cooler styles in our youth than theirs! So they have been asking their mums what they looked like in their youth and asking if they've kept any of their clothes from then for them to wear now (my DD is annoyed I have nothing). They are all about the Y2K aesthetic right now.

Smittenkitchen · 16/03/2026 08:51

I never asked my mum this but I was absolutely fascinated by photos of her from when she was younger.

Hotcrossed · 16/03/2026 08:53

oh the reel i saw was, er, actually there were very few photos, at least that is what i took from it, no myspace or facebook

Yoperreosolo · 16/03/2026 08:55

No one I’ve seen has posted any pics if they didn’t look incredible in the 90s. I haven’t seen Rosanne Barr doing it for example!

It is indeed....

Oh look how pretty I was...

Maybe when you're older, you might wonder what your parents were like in their youth...but as a mum of teens, I really don't think most give it a thought...

OP posts:
ThePoshUns · 16/03/2026 09:02

Agree @Comedycook, the ones I’ve seen, I have no idea who the person is/ was supposed to be.

Browningpers · 16/03/2026 09:03

It’s just parents, especially celebrity ones, who want to share old photos. Most kids don’t give a shit what their parents did in the 90s. Just more social media narcissism and desperate need to create vacuous content to remain “relevant” (usually to sell stuff).

MsSquiz · 16/03/2026 09:06

I never explicitly asked my mum what she looked like in the 70s/80s but I was always looking at photos of her and her friends, loving their outfits and make up.

it’s the same with any insta/fb/tiktok trend, it’s an excuse to share old photos.
if you don’t like it, just scroll past. It’s not compulsory

Ai slop. Don't interact with it nor give it any attention.

The reels I’ve seen haven’t been AI, they’ve been old photos, not AI aging people down or something.

I agree with the OP though

Goethesdog · 16/03/2026 09:09

The Stacey Solomon one was really good

DollopOfFun · 16/03/2026 09:10

Mine don't need to ask, I tell them all the time 😂

Westerlee · 16/03/2026 09:12

Yeah, my teenagers have literally never asked this question. When they happen across old photos of their parents in the 90s then their response is to point and laugh (not without reason!).

purpleme12 · 16/03/2026 09:13

😆 well no probably not but I quite looking back at the pictures from the 90s!

They probably won't have given it a thought.

Then they start to tell you about this really cool old band that they've discovered.

You won't have heard of them, they're called Nirvana. Grin

PensionMention · 16/03/2026 09:28

My DS was interested but only because we were sorting out old photos recently. It was more wow Dad had so much hair and then a pic of me looking like a baddie apparently in a mini dress at Notting Hill Carnival and how Dad was punching above his weight how did he manage to date me. We relayed the tale, DS then said so basically you were a bit of a stalker Dad.

ChevyCamaro · 16/03/2026 09:30

I don’t think my kids realise I exist when I’m not physically in the same room as them so, no, never been asked what I was like in the 90s!

Theresalittlebitofwitchinyou · 16/03/2026 09:47

Mine have but that’s when we have been laughing about something daft I did or listening to 90s music or my Dd likes something to wear and I say I had something like that when I was your age etc
