Person bringing her dog to the end of my house to presumably toilet.

I'm probably being an arse over this so please feel free to tell me if I'm truly being arsey.

I live in the last terraced house in a cul-de-sac. At the end of the cul-de-sac is a railway line, so effectively it's a dead end. Being the last house, there is no footfall ever outside, no one ever walks passed my house, it's very quiet.

At the other end of the the cul-de-sac is a larger straight road and one of the neighbours there has just got a dog. She now, at least 4 times a day that I've seen, walks her dog to my house and stands to the rightt of my front window (I can see her) for several minutes, letting the dog sniff round my car, the railings and alleygate, (presumably for the dog to pee) and then goes.

I'm not used to people walking passed my window and then loitering to the side, it just feels a bit unnerving, I don't have the blinds down of a day so you can see in and I really don't want to start closing the blinds and block out the daylight.

Would you be annoyed? I haven't noticed any dog mess outside, but what gets me is that it's a two minute walk to a small park literally at the end of the road, in the other direction, a 4 minute walk to a larger park and only 10 minutes away, is a massive park, surely the dog needs more than a two minute walk covering 50 yards?

Also I have to cut the foliage back that's peeking out the railings every few months as Network Rail never bother, and I'm not thrilled at the prospect of handling foliage if the dog is peeing on it.

I probably am being precious, but thoughts please.

Urgh that's gross who wants a dog pissing outside their house 4 times a day. I would be taking steps to nip this in the bud. Can you go outside and chat to her every single time she does it. She might get the message then to take her dog a bit further away from your house.

Kingdomofsleep · 14/03/2026 10:30

I'd be annoyed too op, I hate the smell of dog wee and even if I couldn't smell wee I'd be getting annoyed just knowing there might be dog wee.

If I were you, I'd go out there and say hello to her and her dog. Smile unblinkingly and silently for just a few seconds too long. Or start monologuing loudly about politics at her.

Hopefully she'll think you're odd and avoid your house from now on to avoid more awkward conversations with you!

VividDeer · 14/03/2026 10:32

I'd be thinking fuck off too, but not much you can do unfortunately.

SatsumaDog · 14/03/2026 10:34

Go out and engage her in enthusiastic conversation each time. She’ll soon stop.

Her dog might be reactive/nervous of other people or dogs so she’s deliberately taking it somewhere quiet, plus letting your dog sniff about calms them down a lot.

Beautifulhaiku · 14/03/2026 10:41

Also re peeing, do you have foxes or badgers in the area? If so they’ll be pissing everywhere outside anyway. Best just not to think about it! Wear gardening gloves if you’re worried.

Lovemyassistancedog · 14/03/2026 10:51

I have a dog and I don't have a garden which means we go for a walk around our neighbourhood approximately every 4 hours from 7am - 11pm (as well as the 'normal' walks in the countryside, etc). I try to vary the route and do my best to ensure his toiletting is respectful of my neighbours and their property but inevitably I do walk in the same places a lot.

Definitely wear gloves when you manage the foliage.

Hankunamatata · 14/03/2026 10:53

Id bleach the entire area

I am astonished at people being upset by using a pavement to walk on with their dogs. I go everywhere and anywhere and now I wonder am I being judged? I must say if anyone came to ask me not to would be getting short shrift from me.

Nobody minds a well controlled dog walking on the pavement. It is where the owners let their dogs toilet that they do mind. OP has someone letting their dogs toilet 4 times a day outside her house. I have dog owners letting their dogs wander onto my driveway and front garden to toilet. Let them toilet on your own property.

Bearzo · 14/03/2026 12:44

Unfortunately I can't control where my male dog cocks his leg, but I wouldn't let him go on anyone's driveway or front garden to pee. Obviously if he did a shit I'd pick it up, but piss I couldn't get worked up about.

parkezvous · 14/03/2026 13:09

We have a dead end up the road from us with 3 cul-de-sacs and I’ll often walk the dog up there as she’s so reactive to other dogs. Always pick up poo though.

Changename12 · 13/03/2026 17:19

Why do do owners take their dog everywhere else except their own property/land to do their toilet?

Because we are not all landed gentry with acres to roam freely on our own private estate. Probably.

Are you on glue? Why do you think I can't walk my dog on a public pavement? What makes you think the dog doesn't use my own garden? I don't let my dog venture on to private land. Public land? Of course I do.

You don’t need acres of land for your dog to toilet on.

🏆 - for using the word ‘toilet’ so many times. And as a verb 🤦‍♀️

Outside the OP’s house is public land. It’s obviously unacceptable for anyone to let their dog wander onto your driveway or front garden, regardless. But I can’t imagine getting worked up that the front side of my garden wall has wee on it. Some one once used my front step to scrape shit from their shoe, that’s something to get upset about.

Good grief.

You'll do a lot more damage pouring chemicals everywhere.

I live at the end of a cul de sac too and someone near me brings her dachshund on a little barky parade past my house nearly everyday. I know she does it because it makes my dog bark back. There is a big green area the same distance from her as my house is but she just seems to like bring her dog on his little walk down my end. I've just assume she is a little bit strange and let her get on with it, she isn't harming anyone.

If its just a puppy now she might bring it further afield when it gets bigger.

I know she does it because it makes my dog bark back

No you don't.
You have entirely made that up.

ForMerryMauveDreamer · 14/03/2026 17:38

My dog is a former street dog and loves nothing more than to sniff around in alleyways, pavements, bins, wasteland etc. She has zero interest in going to the park and chasing a ball. People probably think we’re odd when they look out their windows and see us walking around the communal car parking area, but she really is doing nothing more than sniffing and this is what makes her happy. I never allow her to toilet on anyone else’s property, so if you see them actually on your property that’s another matter. Just wanted you to see it from the other perspective, it’s not as weird as it seems!

Beautifulhaiku · 14/03/2026 17:58

It’s a public pavement, and she’s not even sure the dog is using it as a toilet - just that it’s sniffing around there.

Wtf such a weird post 😭 Yeah, I've made it up that my dog barks at another dog every day as she trots past. My life isn't exactly exciting but I've better things to be doing than making up stories about my dog barking at my neighbours dog every day.

JustGiveMeReason · 14/03/2026 18:42

But that won't be the reason she walks past your house.
I doubt very much that she is choosing to walk past your house just to make your dog bark.
