Three or four baths a week?

When we redid our bathroom we got a lovely big deep tub with the intention of using it as a nice treat approx once every 2-3 months. DSD enjoys using it 3-4 times a week and complains that her ensuite shower isn't usable as the pressure in her shower is 'too low' (its fine- not a power shower but totally usable!). Am I unreasonable to feel this is completely ungrateful attitude and an ensuite is a massive privilege (only she has one in our house) she spends up to 2 hours bathing in our bath and I've worked out each bath costs £3.50 in gas and water (it's 300 litre capacity). When challenged on why she refuses to use her own bathroom she just shrugs/ scowls. Her ensuite is a shower room with a toilet (no bath) for reference.

A 300l capacity bath sounds ridiculous. Most baths are more like 80l aren't they?

I have an admission to make, not only do I have a bath every night but we have a tv in the bathroom AND I’m partial to a Lush bath bomb. I’ll get my coat and leave the thread now.

Ok Rockefeller, no need to brag.

Weird.

Normal.

godmum56 · 13/03/2026 16:20

not sure, really not sure what you are getting your knickers in a twist about OP. Its a family bathroom and she is family? I thought that the problem was that the bath was in your ensuite but now see that its in the family bathroom.....I have honestly never heard of anyone installing a bath with the intention of not using it regularly....

LividArse · 13/03/2026 16:20

I have two baths a day.

(Bath is massive and lovely, shower on another floor and shit)

I'm not on a meter so I don't care how much it costs. Part of the joy of being an adult and not having someone controlling telling me what I can and can't do.

BlonderThanYou · 13/03/2026 16:20

A few baths a year is very mean when she clearly gets a lot out of them. What about giving her something to displace the water if you’re really concerned about cost, a few large camping water containers (with water inside) sat in the bath?

When challenged on why she refuses to use her own bathroom
because she doesn't have a bath and she clearly enjoys the, and 2 hours gets her away from the nutter who times and prices out her bath

😂😂

BauhausOfEliott · 13/03/2026 16:21

If she has 16 baths in a month at 3.50 each that would be 56 quid a month. That's a lot of money if finances are tight

Finances can't be that tight if they've just put in a new bathroom with a massive luxury bath in it. If they can't afford to use it more than four to six times a year, a bath was a stupid thing to spunk their money away on.

What?! She bathes with massive camping containers?!

BlonderThanYou · 13/03/2026 16:21

It was rather silly to buy such a large bath and expect it to be used so infrequently

tara66 · 13/03/2026 16:21

My EDF gas and electric bill standing order is - as of April - actually doubling from last year - though I try to economise and often walk about in the dark and never use main oven! EDF say they are just doubling my standing order! Also got Water statement yesterday and thats going up alot too! So you are right to make her cut down. Have you had a bill lately?

Ok this has actually set me off 🤣🤣🤣 Massive luxury bath with a 'keep out' tape all around it like a crime scene, and huge containers of old water in it

this thread is a cracker!

ThejoyofNC · 13/03/2026 16:24

I'm sorry but who buys a bath with the intention of using it four times a year?

She's wasting much less money than you if you want to break it down.

StephensLass1977 · 13/03/2026 16:25

I voted you are not being unreasonable because I mistakenly thought that the bathtub was in your bedroom (my mistake).

Why did you fit a bathtub for use only a few times a year? That's so odd. What's the reason for that?

likelysuspect · 13/03/2026 16:26

Why is it costing so much, is that normal?

I wouldn't know how much ours costs

I use the shower and OH uses the bath. Not enough in my view....

no, they sit (full, lid on) in the bath and displace the bath water in the bath (if op is really that concerned). Same principle as saving water in toilet cisterns, which lots of people utilise. Seems a bit tight unless money is a real issue.

Extraordinary.

Helpel · 13/03/2026 16:27

It’s cause she’s a step daughter if you’re honest OP. If she was your daughter you wouldn’t give two hoots. That’s all this is about.

DestinedToBeOutlived · 13/03/2026 16:27

Op, have you calculated the wear and tear on the bath, and the cost of bubble bath too, what about calculating how many times you need to turn a tap before you have to change the washer. Then there's the additional towels that you have to wash and dry, and also the extra in electric for hairdryers and whatnot. Does she scroll on her phone in the bath? Best add WiFi costs to that too.

Probably sitting at about £20 a bath now.

Where do these step kids get their audacity, honestly.

Fucking hell. Camping water containers?! Why not go one further and just dunk her in the rainwater butt in the garden?

Christ alive.

Fantastic comedy value

Comedy on telly has really taken a nose dive I feel in recent years but on here, its guaranteed every night.

tara66 · 13/03/2026 16:28

Is everyone not aware that the cost of gas, electric and water is rising a lot for most people ? Not helped by current war?

FlapperFlamingo · 13/03/2026 16:28

Both our DS have an en-suite with showers, but the bath tub is in the family bathroom. To be honest they do hog the fam bathroom and have long baths! But honestly I can afford it and I just think of all the things they could be doing instead which would be far worse. So I encourage it! I don't want to be dramatic but better having a long bath than out drinking or worse. Buy her some nice bath stuff!
