Poor pets, just disposable to these Dubai residents

NototerrorismIntheUK · 12/03/2026 16:38

Reflection of Dubai ' non national residents'. I judge you.

Fleeing and dumping cats and dogs. So basically pets left to die. Another character flaw to add to the vain, awful types that live there. Fake Dubai, modern day slavery loving, artificial, grim, and no conscience so animals are also disposable. 😢

Thousands of pets being abandoned in Dubai as owners flee over Iran war

Your adopted city is under attack, and your home government has finally got you a flight, but you can’t take your dog, what do you do?

Exactly this.

itsthetea · 12/03/2026 16:39

I rather suspect that if bombs fell around here people would leave their pets easily - when you fear for your life many things change

Nope mine would be in their basket and going where ever I go. They're my responsibility, and not something just to dump.

Lets take out of the conversation how many feel about Dubai in general as this could happen in many places.

I understand the instinct to want to save every life, especially our pets, they are part of our homes and lives and much loved.

But in real crisis situations, people are often forced to make impossible decisions very quickly. Flee the region or stay and potentially, directly face the horror of war.

Sadly, animals do become expendable when the priority has to be getting people and possibly children to safety.

If someone can take their pets with them, that is great. But if they can’t, that doesn’t make them cruel or uncaring, it means they’re doing what they must due to significant risks for their safety. I can imagine many tears have been shed over those pets that had to be left behind as options were limited.

Judging those choices only comes from a place of privilege or from never having experienced the chaos of a true emergency. I judge you OP, and your unrealistic expectations of others, more than them.

Fair enough.

Things that happened 2000 years ago are still used in discussion today. 100 years is a mere tick tock,

maysayyea · 12/03/2026 17:46

Don’t judge a person before walking a mile in their shoes. It’s very very easy to say from the safety of your home that “I would never ….”

Blushingm · 12/03/2026 17:46

NototerrorismIntheUK · 12/03/2026 17:21

Take animals with you?

There is no requirement for a pet passport currently. If coming back to Europe, then its quite safe to bring pets here. They aren't dashing off on little boats for their lives.

Your pet needs to be vaccinated against rabies for example and a blood test 30 days later that needs to go to a EU approved lab. Then wait 3 months after the blood draw. Plus tapeworm treatment 5 days before

What would you do if this was the case?

TappyGilmore · 12/03/2026 17:47

Maybe people should have thought ahead. When I was a child my family lived the expat life (fortunately never the Middle East, we were in Hong Kong and then in Singapore) and this is precisely why my parents would never let us get pets. Not because of war. Because it’s not your home country, you’re going to end up moving on eventually, and it’s difficult and expensive to move pets with you when you do leave.

But yes I totally agree OP, just cruel and disgusting.

OneTealTurtle · 12/03/2026 17:48

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this.

YellowFruitBowl · 12/03/2026 17:48

Animal welfare was never very high on the list of priorities in Dubai, tbh -- there used to be big culls of the large population of street strays before high-profile international events, and it wasn't wildly unusual for a certain type of person to keep a 'tame' cheetah or tiger cub chained up on their property.

Eaten up with hatred 😂😂😂

Or maybe it's just... topical? Quarter of a million Brits live(d) there and the OP literally referred to a news article about this very subject. So maybe have a go at The Guardian first 🤷🏼‍♀️

(Although I must admit I was spaffing off about Dubai / UAE / Qatar long before this war was a twinkle in Trump's eye. As a Dubai fan you must be familiar with their record on women's, migrant workers', LGBT+ and human rights)

The OP (like a few other MNetters) is eaten up with it and using a war in which people are suffering and dying, as a reason to spaff off about their hatred.

Never been to Dubai but I'm not a fan of this sort of vile behaviour we've seen since the war kicked off.

Charlize43 · 12/03/2026 17:49

Could we not abandon the vacuous influencers & z-listers and airlift the pets to safety in the UK?

NototerrorismIntheUK · 12/03/2026 17:49

Muffsies · 12/03/2026 17:30

Ugh. If the rise in animal euthenasia depresses you, don't look into the capital punishment figures; they've been doubling year-on-year. A high percentage are non-nationals, and usually from third world countires (surprise, surprise). They get trafficed there for work, often along with some drugs, then end up with no work and a death sentence. Of course, no effort is made to catch/stop the trafficers, who are bound to be predominently nationals.

Honestly, you couldn't drag me kicking and screaming to that country. I think anyone who goes there is either utterly ignorant, or they just don't give a single shit about other people (or animals).

Edited

I had no idea.

To be honest, Dubai hasn't crossed my mind until recently. This story saddened me. However, if they do as you say and treat humans appallingly then wow.

I would probably just PTS if l couldn't take them, they wouldnt know any difference, love my pets but would always choose human family over animals.

@NototerrorismIntheUK im English but my mum was from Northern Ireland. My daddy was a soldier. We were home visiting my granny and me and her were up the street. The army evacuated us sharpish coz there was a bomb. We heard it bang as we ran away.

my granny had the hold of me so tight and she shifted like I’ve never seen before or since. And she literally flung herself around me when the bomb went off. I was about 7 so this would have been about 1975. I still remember the feeling of the bomb - not the noise but the feel.

I can assure you my granny would have killed the pope himself to get me to safety.

the dog wouldnt have even entered her head.

I can’t judge anyone who doesn’t take a pet in a life or death flee situation.

The little-told story of the massive WWII pet cull

At the beginning of World War II, a government pamphlet led to a massive cull of British pets. This little-discussed moment of panic is explored in a new book.

I wonder how pets survive in parts of the world where they're not treated like members of the family; just like animals fending for themselves. I'm guessing they all live horrific lives 😢.

@GladHedgehog my dogs could hunt (and have done previously) for us 🤷‍♀️ pretty sure we’d survive…admittedly I am not keen on skinning rabbits or plucking pheasants but hey ho food is food

I also have enough dog food for around 2 months at home and if I did need to flee pretty sure I could stop and get some more

People are illogical

That being the case: Other people are having to stay behind to look after all these animals as the owners all flee.

That’s why there’s rescues that bring dogs etc from Greece or Romania or the like.

ChangePrivacyQuestion · 12/03/2026 17:55

OP, my husband's cousin just came back from Dubai. Evacuation flights start at £700 a pop, you face hours in the airport, which gets bombed the most, to find out if you even got in. People in queues were sleeping in the car park. They were allowed limited luggage. Two weeks ago they were planning a trip to the desert, now they've had their life upended. Easy for you to judge from your comfy armchair.

EvilNextDoor · 12/03/2026 17:55

Or deer but I am pretty sure we’d survive
