Of course I understand that the ME war is going to have an impact on oil prices & that will get passed onto the already struggling families; but when things stabilise again & maybe oil prices reset the greedy corporatez never pass this saving back to customers fo they. They just think as we've got used to these new higher prices we'll just keep them there. This thought has given me the rage most of today!
Just needed to vent somewhere, thanks if you listened..

We are not a country that exists on a fucking geological fault line. There are fewer places on earth that are more stable than the British Isles.

I'd happily have a nice little SMR reactor in my garden, if permitted.

But then I did pay attention in science. All my life.

Ha you would be in an extreme minority then.

NFPorterkeeponkeepingonNsoul · 10/03/2026 12:48

@BeAvidHiker Net zero for a country the size of a postage stamp will have little effect globally till the big polluters play ball.

Dutchhouse14 · 10/03/2026 12:49

Im furious we are on oil central heating as not on mainline gas. We need oil to heat our house and provide hot water. If we cant get it delivered- suppliers stopped accepting orders, or we cant affoed to pay upfront then no heating or hot water. Prices trebled in a day. No price cap , no dual fuel tariff to get best rates. If you rely on oil heating you are screwed.

Speaking of COL and housing stocks…the new Iranian Ayatollah owns two luxury flats in London. I do wonder how many flats in London are blocked from local ownership by dubious owners living abroad in dubious countries…

LadyKenya · 10/03/2026 12:59

rockinrobins · 10/03/2026 08:37

"Can always find money for some foreign cause or other though!!"

The UK foreign aid budget has been cut from 0.7% to 0.5% of GNI since 2021, and will likely be cut to 0.3% in 2027 (so more than halved).

Please do not spread misinformation that encourages further hatred and racism. Foreign aid is important and what we do in other countries also impacts our own country and our own lives. We are all connected.

Edited

Thank you. People should perhaps look at the bigger picture, rather than begrudging the pittance that these Countries receive, not a fraction of what was taken from them, in the first place.

I saw some figures suggesting up to 20% of properties in Chelsea and Kensington have been bought by foreign buyers. It's insane!

Doesn't mean you shouldn't do anything. Race to the bottom helps nobody. Also China is getting greener
I think hydrogen cars are the way forward.

chaosmaker · 10/03/2026 13:21

I don't know how you get lobbying out of the way either. Most of it is from massive, often foreign owned companies whose agendas are never in our best interests. Makes you wonder what governments are for.

MrsStarskie · 10/03/2026 13:30

Makes you wonder what governments are for.
Labour said that we would have CHANGE, that is why many voted for them.
We expected things to improve. Their policies have made so much of everyday life more uncomfortable, we are paying much more tax and getting much less.

It’s relentless isn’t it.

My water bill has doubled in the space of three years.

We wonder why the economy is in such poor shape - so many people have little left once the bills are paid now.

Water charges are outrageous imo.

The average bill for my water company (Southern Water) is likely to be £759 next year, and last year it went up massively as well. This is following a year when loads of customers in Kent were without water for days on end, plus they've been fined several times for sewage pollution.

Thankfully, I have a meter and can control my usage to some extent, but am already doing things like never using the washing machine unless I have a full load and only having short showers. I live alone, so my usage is a lot lower than that of a family, but my charges are still £47 a month, so probably over £50 from April.

Lugol · 10/03/2026 13:54

People have been marching in the streets for ages about Gaza and anything else they can think of whilst ignoring the way we are being treated here in the UK.
The banks and the energy companies own us and have been fucking us over and our fantastic Government do fuck all about it.
All the energy companies are are brokers, they don't supply jack shit, it's ALL the same gas and electricity coming down the lines.
They post record profits (HOW if the cost of gas etc is so high?) and there is no penalty to them for fucking people over.

Aside from the crippling cost, people will die because they aren't putting their heating on especially the elderly (but again maybe the Government want that 🙄) and nothing is done.

In France electricity has gone down 35% since last year.

I don't see any fucker marching in the streets for this. Too busy virtue signalling.

This isn't a wealthy country any more it's gone to the dogs and it's only getting worse.
Net zero will do precisely fuck all other than put us all in the clutches of the banks and that's exactly what it's supposed to do.
Why ARE our Government bankrupting us all when China and the US are doing fuck all about the environment?

Do you think bankrupting everyone now for something that MIGHT happen 300 years from now is a wise move?

Wasn't it under Blair's regime that we virtually stopped all new nuclear power stations being built??

Seems both major parties have screwed up.

Nope, Hinkley was first proposed under Labour, in 2007.... delayed for many years under the Tories.

We on the left are always accused of blaming the Tories for the last 14 years but all for the 'right to go almost 30years....

Why?

When our own economy is in the pits, the NHS is in decline (people in some areas can't get an NHS dentist, have to wait a week for a GP appointment etc) young couples can't get on the housing list (yet we give flats to migrants) people that shouldn't even be here are now going to be given £10 grand to go home, how about we put our own people first?

Foreign aid isn't "aid" it's Aid for Trade and shouldn't be happening.

How about the rich Gulf States put their hands in their pockets for a change?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Labour being 'in charge'.

I've seen several Labour Governments and they always wreck the economy.

We do put our own people first. We pay tens of billions in benefits to those who can't support themselves who were born here.

The UK is one of the easiest countries to live on welfare in the world.

Apart from we run out of money under Rishi Sunak!

The UK had growth (under Labour) throughout the 2000s that has never been matched since.
We even ran a budget surplus.

The root cause of much of our problems are down to Thatcher and never setting up North Sea oil for our long term benefit, all given away via tax cuts.

Trump is a madman - did he really need to start bombing the shit out of Iran? We’re now being dragged into a war i’m not sure anyone wanted. I have been thinking about the irony of everyone using paper straws to save the environment while ten tons of missiles are being exploded in the sky.

I’m seriously considering solar panels.

I don't blame you! If I could have turned my house round 30 degrees or so, I'd have got some installed when they were giving grants towards the cost.

I feel very sorry for people for people who have long commutes that can only be done by car, the increase in fuel costs for them must be crippling.
