I'm about an hour and a half in to an induced miscarriage of baby, who had no heartbeat on scan, wasn't allowed surgical. I'm already in AGONY and very emotional so please no negative comments.

Please give me some interesting facts to help take my mind off of things. I love learning new things and it'll keep me sane.

I'll go first - did you know that originally Lara Croft was going to be called Laura and be American?

The ink used in seppia pictures comes from the cuttlefish. Seppia is the Italian word for cuttlefish

Cities that end in -chester or -cester are built on Roman fortified camps or towns 🙂

What is Microchimerism?
During pregnancy, foetal cells cross the placenta and enter the mother’s/pregnant person’s body, where they can remain for decades – sometimes forever. Similarly, maternal cells can enter the foetus, creating a permanent biological connection between a mother and her lost baby. These cells can settle in various places – including the brain, and aptly – the heart.

As Myleene points out, microchimerism offers a quietly powerful reminder that the connection between mother/birthing parent and child can live on at the cellular level. Through microchimerism, science affirms what many of us already feel: that our lost babies, however briefly with us, remain part of us. They leave a biological imprint – not simply a memory – but a presence, which can be lifelong.

While this knowledge doesn’t erase the grief, it offers a new way to understand the depth of the connection between parent and child. It provides scientific validation that your baby’s existence was real. That they made their mark, and part of them is still with you.

A comforting fact from the Miscarriage Association that helped me. 💐

The view from window of Monica and Chandler's new house when they move at the end of Friends, is the same view as from the window of the McCallister's house in Home Alone. They just grabbed some stock footage they had lying about when they cut the final episodes of Friends, which happened to have been filmed originally for Home Alone.

The barnacle has the largest penis to body size ratio.

'Come On Eileen' speeds up at the end because they were running out of tape and wanted to fit the whole song in!

Movie fact! The real life age difference between Regina George (Rachel McAdams) and her mum (Amy Poehler) is only 7 years. Actors ages always blow my mind.

Much love to you OP.

The Michelin Guide was invented as a marketing tool to sell tyres.

1930's (I think) France - Michelin Tyres see low sales as most people only use cars for very short trips (to the theatre etc, and ownership is low/by the very wealthy).

They created the Michelin Guide to encourage people to do more mileage, and subsequently need new tyres.

1 star = a restaurant worth a stop on your planned route.
2 stars = a restaurant worth a detour
3 stars = a restaurant worthy of a dedicated trip

Or something like that..

This too shall pass.

I am loving these facts! Please keep them coming💓.

I'm bleeding so heavily. Soaked through 9 pads and wondering if that's normal? They said heavy period but I've soaked through 3 nightgowns and onto my sofa and floor. This is so awful.

I’d get to the EPU or at least call them based on your update. I’m so sorry, I’ve also been there and it’s fucking nightmareish and bleeding so scary.

My fact is that everyone gets asparagus wee but only some people can smell it.

But I’m now worrying about you and you really need proper advice. Can I ask how far along you are? The longer the more that has to pass and it can get stuck and cause mad bleeding and pain. Please call someone.

7catsisnotenough · 06/03/2026 17:54

I'm sorry for your loss @Chez2306, I lost my first pregnancy many years ago and still think of the baby that might have been sometimes.
Fun fact (weird fact actually!) babies are born with full sized eyeballs which gives them the appealing "wide eyes" look that makes us go gaga 😉

muddyboots · 06/03/2026 18:11

I've been there too. In fact, my username originates from leaving marks on the paper covering the scanning couch 19 years ago.

I found out yesterday that bindweed grows/climbs anti-clockwise.

Here for a handhold and to say I fell pregnant with twins 6 months after my miscarriage. Positive spin, I wouldn't have these amazing humans if I hadn't miscarried.
Try and look into the future x

Not at ALL helpful when someone is current miscarrying...

that sounds too heavy - if they are heavy flow pads, get yourself to a GP or phone 111 for an emergency appt.

You don't want to sit on a hard chair in A&E for 14 hours on a friday night while going through this

The guidance is one pad every 2 hours I believe. Please be careful as retained products could be causing a haemorrhage - happened to my DM and it is an emergency even if the flow doesn't appear to be extremely heavy in real time. She wasn't sure she should go in at the time but ended up needing a transfusion.
My fun fact is that the shortest war lasted 38 minutes.

How are you doing @Chez2306

Chez2306 · 07/03/2026 11:35

Morning all - quick update but husband rang 111 after I had passed a lot of blood and fainted several times. Ambulance came right away and did BP which was 40/28 and gave me some morphine to help with the pain but did not take me in to hospital. Fell asleep around 19.30 last night. Where I'm located there was a burst water pipe and we couldn't have a shower until this morning and I looked like something from a horror movie.

I had a rough night, bled through my bedding and all over myself but feel a little brighter today and have managed to eat and drink a little, also had a shower so feel clean now at least.

Going off of blood facts - Did you know that the word "blood" appears atleast once in EVERY Shakespeare play?

Edited - I forgot to add that I just want to say thank you to everyone who's given me some fun facts or has said such kind words. This has honestly been the worst experience of my life but it is so lovely that I've been treated kindly on here 💓. Except those who voted AIBU (didn't realise I attached the poll) but to you who voted AIBU, I hope that your pillow may never be cold again🤣.

Im so sorry you were put through this. I was in the same situation but was able to insist on surgical intervention. Once again the NHS making women’s health care as traumatic as possible. Rest up and when you feel like it maybe plant a little tree in memory of your baby xx
