Anyone else in Dubai on holiday? AIBU to be panicking with all the flights cancelled?

Not sure when we can go home..anyone has managed to for example drive to nearby countries and fly from there?

We are talking WAR here, so what kind of people could be A...holes about it?

The same people who say things like "well I'd never go on holiday to Dubai because it's in the ME" on this particular thread.

sittingonabeach · 01/03/2026 18:41

@itsamimario I assume they are encouraging people to leave if they can, so if you have just started your 2 week holiday there, they are going to help you leave early

Dubai said they’re opening tomorrow at 15:00, so why now talks of evacuations?

Really? That seems optimistic.

Not being funny, the last thing I would want to do is get on a flight in the middle of a war zone across the entire Middle East! Missiles flying left right and centre! I would stay where you are on the ground where you are able to get to a bomb shelter. Being on a plane right now is the last thing you need or want - stay safe and vigilant- if you don't feel safe but others in your adult party "feel fine" go to shelter without them (obviously if you have kids take them with you) - don't hold back - lots of love - my thoughts are with you xx

There are ferries from Morocco to Spain, then land routes home.

It was 16 years ago, and he's still at the same company. He's not looking over his shoulder for the HR investigation!
He certainly wasn't in a hurry to come back home. And his emplyers still thought he was in East Africa anyway....

But that may well be for shorter evacuation flights to likes of Cyprus to help clear the backlog, bearing in mind that many scheduled aircraft will be displaced having turned back on their inbound flights.

That is so bizzare isn't it?

Really? That seems optimistic.

Emirates were at one point earlier today saying their ops were suspended until 1500 local time Monday but I suspect that might be a holding statement and possibly/probably subject to change.

FWIW there has been talk about Abu Dhabi also opening up soon but I think a lot of what's doing the rounds might just be wishful thinking, or people interpreting "opening not before" as "definitely opening at".

It could be a fast changing game when the authorities deem the risk to civil aviation has reduced to an acceptable level.

ActoBelle · 01/03/2026 19:00

Guess the airlines will leave cancelling flights as long as they can to reduce losses? So will just have a rolling programme of announcements of cancellation depending on events. Could all be over by tomorrow, could carry on for weeks.

Retiredfromearlyyears · 01/03/2026 19:06

On no account should you drive anywhere. Nowhere there is stable right now and we have all ready seen rougue missiles striking wide of the mark. It’s just been on the news that more planes are en route to repatriate all U.K. Citizens. You are safer ,to stay put and try to find out what the British Embassy advice is.
Wishing you a safe swift journey home.

MMBaranova · 01/03/2026 19:09

>Could all be over by tomorrow, could carry on for weeks.

Exactly. It's too early to see where this is headed. If enough drones are still heading towards the airports and key buildings, are flights going to resume?

When Iraq attacked Iran in 1980 the conflict went on for just short of 8 years. Last June's Israel-Iran conflict lasted 12 days.

Watdidusay · 01/03/2026 19:11

Is there any sign of it calming down in Dubai? News isn't reporting on it since yesterday and seems to suggest yesterday was the only bad day

Talkinpeace · 01/03/2026 19:15

The UAE is not on my holiday list
but the Doha and Dubai airports are massive hubs for flights to the Far East and Southern Hemisphere.
They have the facilities for 4 hour stopovers for thousands of people without luggage,
not two or three days

Many many workers (of the non expat variety) fly in and out every day.
Again, clearing them through the airports will be a priority.

Those who are holidaying - its not like the next person is going to arrive on a non existent flight (see also Iceland ash cloud)

Those who live there - can go home and wait

AtomicBlondeRose · 01/03/2026 19:22

It’s not calming down at all - in Qatar at least they are now using fighter jets to intercept the incoming missiles offshore (including an RAF plane!) so there is much less disturbance in the country itself. So calmer and less risk to residents but the bombardment continues.

What are expats doing though ? It’s their livelihood they can’t just up and leave?

If things deteriorated long term they would have no choice.

Araminta1003 · 01/03/2026 19:30

Even British citizens in UAE living there have a right to be brought home? The UAE does not offer dual citizenship so the British Government cannot just wash their hands off them. Unless they have another dual nationality, some may.

FWIW there's currently a joint Qatari/RAF Typhoon Unit (12 Squadron)...might be linked with that.

Fairly obviously airspace is not going to be reopened as long as drones/missiles are still being engaged close to the civil airports and associated airspace.

People will get up, get the nanny to take kids to school, let the driver take them to work etc
Their servants who live in less secure housing might not want to go out though.

People have been advised not to leave their homes at this point

But the servants and delivery boys will still be expected to get the food to the expats.

Ihangthemoon · 01/03/2026 19:36

I was reading the attacks on Dubai and “western interests” is quite deliberate from Iran’s side as it’s going to make it more difficult for Trump when the conflict widens, especially at home.

JustMeAndTheFish · 01/03/2026 19:36

Register with the foreign office on their website. There may be evac flights.
