Thank F Labour are currently in charge. Both Reform and Green making further incendiary comments about condemnation or exact support when obviously Starmer is doing loads behind the scenes and the main priority is nuclear de-escalation.
Let this be a lesson in world safety for all the fools voting either Reform or Green.

Sorry what? Doing loads behind the scenes? What?

It's one down hopefully from the gruesome foursome of Khameini, Putin, Xi & Kim Jong-Un. Three to go...

Putin and Xi are way too protected by their own country's military and security forces.

I’m hoping the actual personal risk is low?

I think so, there have been comparatively few casualties so far as most of the missiles have been shot down. But as a PP said most of us Brits have never been caught up in anything like this before.

EleanorReally · 01/03/2026 11:40

dubai is also a major transfer point for airlines, <<hub airport>> apart from a holiday destination

Yes, and Kim Jong Un is protected by China.

That’s rhe most cringe worthy desperate thing I’ve ever seen written.

Why assume it wasn't an intended target?

Where would you stick sensitive stuff or the most important stuff if you were Iran in order to try and protect it best from a possible Western attack?

If it's right next to a military base who is to say you wouldn't have a shed load of things under the school. It's not like we have seen this in Gaza and it's not like we haven't seen Israel willing to target.

We know that unwillingness to target civilians is only restricted to the west and it's likely that Iran would capitalise on this.

The difference now seems to be that Israel is no longer adverse to targeting such places where civilian shields are being used.

It's deeply uncomfortable and at odds with Western thinking. But that's the point. It's a form of built in propaganda shield because it's a known Western 'internal political weakness'.

Iran is using multiple target to try and force a diplomatic settlement at this point. It's targeting Dubai airport for a reason - because it will put the most pressure on Western and Gulf governments. Remembering how many influential western billionaires live there and how many Western tourists there are there.

It's targeting the oil rigs because that's going to drive up prices. It's targeting the straits because that will stop the flow of trade and drive up prices. It's targeted neutral Oman who were facilitating talks between the US and Iran because it wants to force Gulf states diplomatically to tell the US to stop.

It's actually a race against time on both sides. The US has a limited number of missiles it has it can use to take out Iranian missiles and drones. Iran has limited launch sites and drone storage facilities. It's who can wipe out the others capability first really.

But this also suggests that this stage will be short - air superiority has been key in early engagements involving the US. You will then have longer term security concerns but they will be of a different nature and less frequent.

There's also implications for Ukraine here too. Iran has been supplying Russian with drones. This is probably going to knock out this capability. It is also going to drive up demand for Ukrainian drone tech....

There are primary schools in Central London next to sensitive military targets.
I'm no expert on Tehran city planning but it could just be that's where things ended up?

i don’t understand why people are ‘fucking terrified’? Am I being naive?

Well, firstly, bombs/ missiles kill people.
Secondly, posters have family and friends out in the Middle East and they might get hit by a missile.
Next is the fear of escalation. It could get worse and several governments involved are unstable. It’s a very volatile situation and there is huge anxiety about how this will play out.
I do hope that helps

I'll be honest I don't think anyone should be taking geopolitical or advice on being caught in the cross fire between 3 countries who despise/resent each other and have done for decades from the same people who post having melt downs because they didn't get an invite to their 3rd cousins step brothers wedding or AIBU to phone police on friend so I can get me nails done.

Having said that I can't help but share my 2p, just follow your foreign offices advice don't cross boarders it won't be looked upon kindly. I grew up with sirens get to a shelter if you're some where with on one, if not go to the central room and away from windows.

It will all be over soon. But that's what I said on Oct 8th..... I'm

I’d imagine the advice from the consulate is to stay put! Iran are indiscriminately sending drones all over the Middle East so I doubt anywhere is safe currently!

Swiftie1878 · 01/03/2026 12:05

It’s been on the news this morning in the UK that British Citizens in the UAE should use the Foreign Office website to ‘register your presence’ in the region.
If they need to get you out, they need to know you are there.

And primary schools ‘behind the wire’ on RAF bases here, primary and secondary schools on garrisons.

lol, put aside the sensitive intelligence that Russia almost certainly holds over Trump’s “personal adventures”. China’s military spending is $250 billion annually compared to Iran’s $7 billion. Any actual attack on China’s leaders or citizens and it would make 9/11 look like a playground argument.

Something is amiss if you can't understand that people living or visiting a country or simply transiting an airport where missiles might now hit may be terrified.

We had American F22s and Stratotankers flying overhead a couple of nights earlier this week and it was quite unsettling just hearing the engine roars in the dark skies and we were in no danger whatsoever, so to hear that noise or explosions under real threat must be, yes indeed terrifying.

Absolutely they are gruesome but Netanyahu and Trump are no better. They all swim in the same murky water and eat on the same bloodied tables. Equally as evil.

Yes, I think so.

There's people there on holiday with their young children, hearing and seeing drones and bombs going off, high profile buildings being evacuated and being unable to get their flights home because all air travel is cancelled, the airport has been hit and there is no clear indication of when they may be able to return home. They're sheltering in underground car parks and lower levels of their hotels. I think being fucking terrified right now is a reasonable response.

No. Have a look at what goes on in an Islamist regime. What would your rights be as a woman? Both the USA and Israel are democracies with civil rights laws. Are they perfect? No, but it would be about a million times better to live there than a theocratic Iran.

If you find the sound of aircraft overhead unsettling then I suggest you don't live near an airport.
