Unpleasant couple with designer dog-awful!

This morning I went to take my dog for a walk around my local lake & beauty spot. It’s a beautiful place, the sun was shining, people there are generally happy and friendly, say good morning, smile, obviously not everyone and that is fine.
There was a young couple (20’s maybe) nose in the air, looked a bit full of themselves tbh, walking a really unusual looking dog. They literally looked at my dog with disgust and pulled their dog away. Usually my dog and others dogs meet for a friendly hello. The man especially had such an awful look on his face that I said ‘Morning’ just to get him to bloody stop his face being like that and to try to get some rudeness out of him 😂 I can see it was very difficult for him to force a ‘Morning’ out, but he managed it. I walked off thinking what a bad vibe they had, but some people are like that. I walked some more then headed to pick up a takeaway coffee from the cafe there and they were in there, this man was saying to the lovely coffee guy there (often chat to him) ‘How long does it take to get a f’in coffee around here?’
The coffee server should be given a raise for how he dealt with this horrible couple, pure class, rising above it.
It bothered me all morning
Is anyone else really irked by these kind of people, especially when they think they’re better than others and treat staff like crap?
It’s my biggest pet hate, I understand life is hard and everyone might not be feeling good and we all have problems, but I strongly suspect they treat many people like this and I hope someone spits in their food one day 🤣

Every meal they eat out will have spit it in, I am sure of it.

Brianthepug · 25/02/2026 22:06

You aren't unreasonable for thinking how awful they are.
You are unreasonable for letting them ruin the rest of your day.

Oh I so hope so!

What is wrong with people like this though?! I just cannot understand it

Me either - some people don't seem to realise that going through their daily lives in the world being nice to others is preferable to being an utter rudesby. I try not to dwell on it though, because no point in letting it spoil my day.

BauhausOfEliott · 25/02/2026 22:12

They were obviously total dickheads to the barista.

However, there was nothing wrong with them pulling their dog away from yours. If their dog is nervous or reactive (or is even a bitch in season) it might not want to ‘meet for a friendly hello’ with your dog and as a dog owner you should understand that.

It did bother me for a couple of hours afterwards, I suspect I may be autistic and wonder if this is anything to do with how bothered I get by people like this, especially when they treat waiters and so on so badly. It sits with me for quite a while, I cannot bear people thinking they are better than others and treating people likely working hard for minimum wage, like shit

This! They obviously really got your back up from the word go for some reason but most of your post is full of assumption and generally pretty ott, sorry!

My dog didn’t go towards as I saw their faces and pulled my lovely mixed rescue dog back. They didn’t look like they were worried about anything like that, they just appeared like stuck up dicks really

What breed was their dog?

Sometimes the first comments here on MN nails it - or is very very funny! :-)

Skybunnee · 25/02/2026 22:26

But they are obviously not very happy or content people to behave like that - maybe you should feel sorry for them

Your’e right, we should feel sorry for them, it’s a lack of character, I’ve been very sad at times in my life, as we all have, I might not have been overly friendly but never rude like this

I’m really not sure, I haven’t seen the breed before, very unusual and I assume an expensive breed. Medium sized, cream colouring, fluffy around the edges (obviously groomed) very unusual face

You said ‘they pulled their dog away’ and it’s clear in your post that you were offended by that and have decided that it was because your dog is mixed breed for some reason. But it was perfectly reasonable of them to pull their dog away if it’s reactive or nervous.

They were arseholes to the barista. But everything else you’ve said is just a string of weird assumptions with no foundation.

Agreed.

Delphiniumandlupins · 25/02/2026 22:48

Some people are just unhappy moaners and they meet lots of other unpleasant people. Some people are nice to everyone and find they meet lots of lovely friendly folk.

DonewhatIcando · 25/02/2026 22:58

@Comeonthenspring
They walk amongst us!
Pulling their dog away, maybe understandable.
I don't let other dogs near my dog because she's an arshole, loveable arshole mind you.
I shout "not friendly and neithers the dog" with a smile.
There are some horrible buggers around and being rude to baristas or anyone in the service industry means you're a horrible bugger.
😉

My dog was on a lead away from them over the road by the lake, nowhere near them, they were very precious about everyone around them

They were horrid to the barista.

However you haven't exactly covered yourself in glory with this run-down either!

  • decided someone had a horrible facial expression (you have no idea what is going on for someone btw)
  • took offence to their posture and gait (wtf?)
  • Did something you thought would provoke them to "get aome rudeness out of him" to quote you
  • became offended when they did not want their dog to do hellos to other unknown dogs

As someone with a mixed breed rescue dog, why did you focus on the fact that they had a 'designer dog', which is just an expensive mixed breed?

They were rude in the cafe, but there are unfortunately rude people everywhere, and I'm not sure what the breed of their dog has to do with any of it.

Because they were so precious about the dog and looking around at everyone and looking snobby

You aren't unreasonable for disliking the way the bloke spoke to the batista. You are unreasonable for deciding to despise them in advance of this incident. They don't seem to have done anything to you.
