Unpleasant couple with designer dog-awful!

This morning I went to take my dog for a walk around my local lake & beauty spot. It’s a beautiful place, the sun was shining, people there are generally happy and friendly, say good morning, smile, obviously not everyone and that is fine.
There was a young couple (20’s maybe) nose in the air, looked a bit full of themselves tbh, walking a really unusual looking dog. They literally looked at my dog with disgust and pulled their dog away. Usually my dog and others dogs meet for a friendly hello. The man especially had such an awful look on his face that I said ‘Morning’ just to get him to bloody stop his face being like that and to try to get some rudeness out of him 😂 I can see it was very difficult for him to force a ‘Morning’ out, but he managed it. I walked off thinking what a bad vibe they had, but some people are like that. I walked some more then headed to pick up a takeaway coffee from the cafe there and they were in there, this man was saying to the lovely coffee guy there (often chat to him) ‘How long does it take to get a f’in coffee around here?’
The coffee server should be given a raise for how he dealt with this horrible couple, pure class, rising above it.
It bothered me all morning
Is anyone else really irked by these kind of people, especially when they think they’re better than others and treat staff like crap?
It’s my biggest pet hate, I understand life is hard and everyone might not be feeling good and we all have problems, but I strongly suspect they treat many people like this and I hope someone spits in their food one day 🤣

I’m not sure what your problem is.
yes they were rude to the barista but you seemed to find them vile for some reason I can’t fathom.
I have a breed that people alternate between being ‘he’s so handsome’ to others running wild in fear (he’s a Weimaraner who seems to be a marmite dog) but I don’t judge them.
though often think WTF?
different strokes for different strokes

DeftGoldHedgehog · 26/02/2026 13:13

TBH I can't always be bothered to have a chat with everyone walking their dog, and sometimes pull my dog away as I have to get home for a particular time.

MindYourUsage · 26/02/2026 13:16

Your dog sounds fine OP.

You on the otherhand...... 😵‍💫

I agree that OP is being judgemental but I am curious to know why you dislike designer dogs so much? There are a lot of very good reasons to mix breeds, especially for brachycephalic dogs that have had so much inbreeding that they are now unable to breathe properly. Many other breeds could do with inserting some fresh DNA from other healthier breeds too, such as cavaliers. Their brains are often too big for their craniums these days, causing them lifelong headaches.

Because 'designer' type dogs are often not bread using the best stock of their pedigree breed.

Designer breeding typically means thinks like cavapoos and cockerpoos and golden-doodles etc. They're bred to be fashionable, often bred by people with limited understanding of dog genetics and implications of breeding those breeds together, and thus lots of them end up suffering as a result (poor puppy raising, inappropriate owners, bought to be 'hypoallergenic' [not the case], puppy farming is rife etc). Most of them seem to have parents with no health tests, or terrible ones.

Mixing a breed to help strengthen those breeds, such as Cavaliers (and I know a woman who breeds them with labs, and it has made those dogs healthier) with labs is a very different thing and SHOULD be done more often. (Although I think certain breeds are pretty much beyond saving - and that is down to the people who breed them and the sorts of people who buy them, more than anything else).

I don't want to de-rail the thread, but designer dog breeding (by which I mean the poodle crosses and I think that's what OP meant - I have in mind a cavapooo or cockerpoo), is really concerning for a variety of reasons. Of course those dogs can be lovely but appropriate breeders of those dogs are like hens teeth, unfortunately.

They were obviously total dickheads to the barista.

However, there was nothing wrong with them pulling their dog away from yours. If their dog is nervous or reactive (or is even a bitch in season) it might not want to ‘meet for a friendly hello’ with your dog and as a dog owner you should understand that.

Yes.

They were horrid to the barista.

However you haven't exactly covered yourself in glory with this run-down either!

  • decided someone had a horrible facial expression (you have no idea what is going on for someone btw)
  • took offence to their posture and gait (wtf?)
  • Did something you thought would provoke them to "get aome rudeness out of him" to quote you
  • became offended when they did not want their dog to do hellos to other unknown dogs

Yes, this!
No-one needs to be rude to waiting staff but otherwise this couple did nothing wrong
It drives me mad when idiots expect my dogs to want to interact/play with theirs.

My dog didn’t go towards as I saw their faces and pulled my lovely mixed rescue dog back. They didn’t look like they were worried about anything like that, they just appeared like stuck up dicks really

It would be interesting to hear how they classified you.

It's a bit much to call people stuck up dicks just because they didn't immediately smile and want to talk to you having seen you for all of a second in passing and not wanting their dog to make friends with yours. It's nice if people nod and say good morning, but it's not compulsory.

Had there been a problem with the coffee? Had they been waiting a while? People do complain about slow service, not nice to use that sort of language but that's how some people speak.

You'll know not to engage if you see them again.

luckylavender · 26/02/2026 14:20

Are you a bit bored OP? You've invested so much time in these people that you know nothing about. As far as I can see they didn't bother you in anyway. At one point you say they were 'looking snobby'. That's a you problem.

Only on Mn would it end up with me being the bad one 😂
People I told irl were shocked by rude people like this

Yeah, you just keep telling yourself that, @Comeonthenspring .

adlitem · 26/02/2026 17:04

Odd post.

YANBU for finding them unpleasant/ rude if they were

YABU for thinking they didn't want your less posh dog to associate with their fancy one out of snobbery (LOL)

YABU to be bothered enough about this to dwell on it for hours and post about them.

MabelAnderson · 26/02/2026 17:07

I want to guess the breed, how was the dogs face unusual OP ? What size dog ?

RandomUsernameHere · 26/02/2026 17:16

Other than being rude to the man in the coffee shop, which is obviously not ok, I can’t see they have done anything wrong. It sounds like you have been judgemental about pretty much everything about them.

Comeonthenspring · 26/02/2026 19:21

aLFIESMA · 26/02/2026 12:31

My little fella was 'fluffy 'round the edges' Op! We would both have been very friendly to you and your lovely rescue, probably ended up having coffee all sat together Grin. I get despondent with the human race at times too but you'll be exceptionally lucky if you don't bump into a few now and then x

Aww! 🐶 😂

Gosh, I honestly don’t know what it was, had never seen one like this before. It was medium sized, def not a cute little Cockapoo (sp) type. It was a very light tan colour with the fluffy part, almost being like a mane around it and just a very unusual face, I thought German or something when I saw it and no idea why

It’s called, “Entitlement “, a disease that has proliferated since 2000 & enhanced by some people’s Obsession with trying to be like America!

They sound like twats but don’t necessarily assume that their dog is either designer or expensive. I have a very rare breed and one of the things people assume is that rare = expensive, puppies of my breed are around £2k so far from crazy by modern standards.

Sudagame · 28/02/2026 11:57

I would have pulled him as a fellow customer upon hearing him speak to the barista like that. The person serving the public has one hand tied behind their back when it comes to dealing with arseholes. You as a member of the public do not. If you felt that strongly maybe you should have said something to him at the time. I have and no doubt will again jumped in many a time with a 'Please don't speak to them like that' or 'there's no need for that ' etc. You generally find these people are cowards, so l don't worry about doing so, that's why they pick on those who can't or they perceived can't, defend themselves.

Because they were so precious about the dog and looking around at everyone and looking snobby

Seriously - how old are you. You sound like you are 10. They probably thought exactly the same about you. You sound ridiculous. What they were doing was none of your business and vice versa. So they pulled away from your dog - so what !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your second point shouts 'inverted snobbery'!!
