To ask you to try an experiment with your cat? 😁

A couple of years ago I was singing 'It's oh so quiet' by Bjork to myself and when I got the 'shhhh, shhh' bit, my cat went into hyper focus then ran up to me, jumped into my lap and starting purring and buffing me!

Have done it several times since, same reaction.

Tonight I actually played the song and she immediately leapt across the sofa to get up close and personal with the Alexa 😂.

I appreciate this is a fairly batshit post but I would love to know if any other cats react the same way (or if they have other favourite songs or quirks).

Pic attached of the furry Bjork fan...😁

Taylor Swift has only been vaguely on my radar up to now, but then a friend came round & sang ‘Her name was Kitty. She made her money being pretty & witty’ to my Kitty, & she looked briefly interested.

If Kitty could develop a career as a pretty & witty Instagram influencer, maybe we could both retire early.

As usual, Graham responds to nothing except the sound of food.

'Graham' 🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️

Dollymylove · 26/02/2026 08:14

I will try this and report back
P.S your cat has a very impressive "side eye" , OP 😆😆

Not even an ear twitch for bjork but she jumped up and ran away when I started singing (but she’ll do that for song I sing).

twohotwaterbottles · 26/02/2026 08:19

Im
away for the night but trying this immediately when I get home. 🤣

Squirrelsandhedgehogs · 26/02/2026 08:37

Just tried on my cat he's a big Maine Coon and started playing Bjork song and he went from sitting like a loaf to sitting upright and purring but the loud part was scary. I then started singing and he purred. He started blinking at me, got distracted by a bird flying by, but back to purring and blinking at me.

Mines looking around concerned for the sshhhh snake type creature.

But he’s a Spanish cat so maybe he doesn’t understand Icelandic?

Tuxedos are the best!

Since I had no luck with Graham I experimented with another two and... absolutely nothing. Very disappointed.

For a moment when I started reading your post I thought your cat was called Taylor Swift 😂

I had high hopes with this one, but nada. I was similarly underwhelmed by their reaction to the famous 'cats and cucumbers' stunt that was doing the rounds a few years ago. They obviously think they're not there for my amusement.

I think Kitty would need to develop
opposable thumbs to be a truly successful influencer.

And when it comes to our furry overlords, I really don’t think that would be a good outcome for humans.

It’s a much scarier prospect than the world being taken over by AI.

Just an ear twitch here, I think she was listening but Bjork is not Matilda's thing

twohotwaterbottles · 28/02/2026 14:25

I just tried Bjork with Minnie. She just stared at me like I was mad 🤷🏻‍♀️but showed not a jot of interest 🤣
