A couple of years ago I was singing 'It's oh so quiet' by Bjork to myself and when I got the 'shhhh, shhh' bit, my cat went into hyper focus then ran up to me, jumped into my lap and starting purring and buffing me!

Have done it several times since, same reaction.

Tonight I actually played the song and she immediately leapt across the sofa to get up close and personal with the Alexa 😂.

I appreciate this is a fairly batshit post but I would love to know if any other cats react the same way (or if they have other favourite songs or quirks).

Pic attached of the furry Bjork fan...😁

Purdey looked at me with a definite "what are we doing now, why are you like this?" face and headed upstairs - she does enjoy a rendition of ain't no sunshine in the mornings though!

Sid wasn’t impressed by Bjork however she does like to come and drape herself over my shoulder at about 9.30pm most days while I sing the CBeebies bedtime song to her.

FairyMary9 · 25/02/2026 11:35

Cosmo completely ignored me. Claude who was sat on the back of the sofa right behind me bit my ponytail and yanked it.
Usually he does that when he wants a fuss but he was sleeping so presumably this time it means shut up!

It worked with my cat Tigger. He ran over looking at my phone and meowed. Strange! 😁

Neither of mine moved off their beds. Now if it was a packet of crisps they'd be here like a rocket.

Gasbox · 25/02/2026 12:57

I'm sure I read somewhere that cats think we're hissing at them when we make the shush noise, my girl definitely doesn't like it so maybe true? I get huge concern if I sneeze though, especially if it's more than once in a row, she comes running over and inspects my face in minute detail, no idea if it's actual concern or she just wants me to be quiet!

Tillow4ever · 25/02/2026 13:02

I actually had this song playing one day last week - obviously I was singing along - sadly my cat paid absolutely NO attention to me.

randomchap · 25/02/2026 13:15

Great, now my cats think I'm strange

UnderThePressure · 25/02/2026 13:25

My cat gets the zoomies, lies down and kicks his back legs or comes at you if you blow air in and out of your lips quickly! Cats are funny creatures and I love em! When he's awake I'll try him with Bjork 😹

As if they didn’t already 😆

Very very true.

Tabasco pricked up her ears and looked interested in the 'shhh' bits. Then she remembered her food bowl.

I miss my DCat. I know exactly what she would do. She would look at me with a look that day clearly ‘Look at the state of you’.
Queen of the judgy look she was.

Nothing here to Bjork, but one of mine gets very sleepy and cuddly if I sing Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now to him (with lyrics adapted so it’s all about him of course).

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/02/2026 19:15

Purple cat is deaf so it won't work here! Your cat is a cutie though. Here's mine right now.

For some reason my two got really hyper when I played 'Sergeant Rock Is Going to Help Me' by XTC after it had randomly come up in conversation with DH.

I will try them with Bjork when I feel strong enough to listen to it (hate the song myself 😆).

FuriousInventions · 25/02/2026 19:24

Lazy Boy Cat opened half an eye, rolled over, sighed and stretched out a paw.
Will report on Psycho Girl Cat’s reaction later when she decides to come in and has completed her Wall Of Death-style circuits of the house.

Tootiredcantsleep · 25/02/2026 19:31

I'm going to have to try this with my blind from birth cat who is very reactive to sound. Though she's also ancient and dozy so may just go back to napping.

RandomUsernameHere · 25/02/2026 19:40

Just tried, he was asleep on the sofa and woke up and was very alert and looking into the garden Grin

BengalBangle · 25/02/2026 20:12

My Bengal would gouge out my eyes if I even attempted this!

FartyAnimal · 25/02/2026 22:28

I haven't tried Bjork yet, but my fat little tuxedo attacks if you make a sort of quick panting sound (discovered this when I was doing a YouTube yoga session). It's not a lethal attack, but but it is very out of character for her!

I don't but I am absolutely loving them, and finding it really fascinating what cats react to.

My other cat - Edie's sister Piper, just gives me side eye when Bjork comes out! She's quite a character in other ways though 😂

Mine didn't even turn her head. Is she broken?
