To go on holiday with scabies?

melonhen · 24/02/2026 14:55

We have scabies and have been prescribed some cream to kill the scabies.
We have to treat everyone in the house at the same time and also have to clean all the sofas and bedding and towels and wash everything on a hot wash and hoover.
The mites die after 3 days of no human contact so I’m thinking rather than risk missing anything, we clean best we can and then we book into a holiday park, leaving the house and car for a week, doing the cream treatment while we are there and then come back to a quarantined home might be the most affective way.
We would be treated so not contagious while we were there.

Unreasonable and gross

Nickyknackered · 24/02/2026 15:01

Jeez.

ilovesooty · 24/02/2026 15:02

I wouldn't want to stay in accommodation previously used by someone with scabies.

ThejoyofNC · 24/02/2026 15:03

Surely nobody is that damn selfish? Do you have absolutely no regard at all for other people?

Vallmo47 · 24/02/2026 15:03

Seriously?

TomatoSandwiches · 24/02/2026 15:03

What?! No.

Brefugee · 24/02/2026 15:04

have a word with yourself OP.

Why do you think it is ok?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/02/2026 15:04

If it's the Scabies from No. 38, to be honest, they can be a bit dull.

ilovesooty · 24/02/2026 15:05

Who on earth has voted that @melonhen is not BU?

ldnmusic87 · 24/02/2026 15:06

Eew, disgusting.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 24/02/2026 15:07

What on earth are you thinking?

What about the people who use the holiday facilities after you? What about everyone who ever uses that bedding again??

Caitcheshire · 24/02/2026 15:08

I don’t think it’s fair in anyway as much as I sympathise with what sounds a terrible situation

i understand that technically 12-24 (forgive me, I forget the exact rules) after starting treatment you aren’t passing them on from you, but unless you are washing every item of clothing before you leave (and spending no time in the clean clothes in your home before leaving) to then go to a holiday let - isn’t fair. You don’t mention shoes - would you be taking foot ware you haven’t washed? If so, you’ll be tracking them with you.

the chances of you passing it on to lots and lots of different families/round the entire park has to be high surely? The park aren’t going to reasonably clean to the standard needed to stop scabies. Even if they were cleaning that much, the poor person cleaning could pick them up in the process of cleaning

i presume you wouldn’t be mentioning it to the park to give them chance to manage the risk?

I imagine the bedding will be changed and dry cleaned.

It's not just the bedding thou carpets rugs sofas anything soft furnishings please don't go on holiday !
This makes me wanna stay home for the rest of my life 😔😔😔😔

Wolfiefan · 24/02/2026 15:14

You can’t guarantee it will be cleaned on a hot wash. Plus the soft furnishings won’t be cleaned. Poor cleaner who catches scabies off your sheets too.

Madarch · 24/02/2026 15:15

Sorry, WHAT?!

toomuchfaff · 24/02/2026 15:16

come back to a quarantined home

Unfortunately the next people in the holiday home dont have that luxury...

No thought to the holiday home youre going to be inhabiting whilst you're infection is rife?

Madarch · 24/02/2026 15:16

Just, NO!

Bedding isn’t dry cleaned and anyway what about the soft furnishings etc?

Also how are you going to protect the cleaners who will handle the bedding? 🤮

melonhen · 24/02/2026 15:11

I imagine the bedding will be changed and dry cleaned.

The mattress and sofas won't be changed or washed at the holiday accomodation. Just keep it contained to your own home until it's all gone. Put sofa covered in the garden for 3 days if you need to, don't spread it around.

melonhen · 24/02/2026 15:11

It's not just about bedding though is it, it would furnishings, carpet, everything you touched. And anyway, bedding isn't dry cleaned. This would be such a dick move OP. You've put a lot of people on this thread off ever going on holiday again so thanks for that.

PurpleThistle7 · 24/02/2026 15:20

Oh this makes me feel super ill to think about. Do people really think like this? Shudder shudder shudder. Ick.

justforthisnow · 24/02/2026 15:21

Tell us where you're going? So we can avoid it.

InfoSecInTheCity · 24/02/2026 15:21

Lovely, then the next family can go on their much anticipated holiday and return with scabies, if you’re really effective super-spreaders and use any of the park facilities you could send multiple families home with it. But you would have enjoyed yourself and gotten your home clean so why care about anyone else!

ilovesooty · 24/02/2026 15:24

If you're leaving the car at home how are you planning to get there?
