To go on holiday with scabies?

melonhen · 24/02/2026 14:55

We have scabies and have been prescribed some cream to kill the scabies.
We have to treat everyone in the house at the same time and also have to clean all the sofas and bedding and towels and wash everything on a hot wash and hoover.
The mites die after 3 days of no human contact so I’m thinking rather than risk missing anything, we clean best we can and then we book into a holiday park, leaving the house and car for a week, doing the cream treatment while we are there and then come back to a quarantined home might be the most affective way.
We would be treated so not contagious while we were there.

There are laws around deliberate spreading of disease, such as were seen with HIV, Covid etc. This could potentially fall under the same umbrella if you do not notify the holiday park in order to allow them to ensure proper cleansing afterwards and protection of the cleaner, and if you tell them, I doubt they will let you stay. It may be that scabies isn’t covered by the law, but would you really want to risk it? Quite apart from it being an absolutely appalling thing to do, but clearly you are only thinking about yourself, so consider whether you would be legally liable for anything?

LostFuse · 24/02/2026 15:26

You're going to go anyway - you just wanted people to agree with you, which thankfully hasnt happened.
Not that it will make any difference.

Hankunamatata · 24/02/2026 15:26

Check terms and conditions of the park. They can refuse you or send you away if they suspect infectious illlness

Contact directly and you may get a full refund

Your going to walk around the holiday park with scabies rash!!! Never mind the accommodation. Boke

ChoccieCornflake · 24/02/2026 15:26

Treatment is often not effective immediately, so you are contagious. Please please do not do this

AllTheChaos · 24/02/2026 15:28

How does one be rid of scabies I wonder? I find myself thinking I would take lots of soft furnishings to the tip, then camp in a relatives field for a week, strip off and burn the tent and clothes, outdoor shower, then head into their house to wear new clothes!

SalmonOnburntcrisp · 24/02/2026 15:29

I don't have the words.

It would be grossly grossly unreasonable to do this.
You dont just come into contact with bedding

You could easily send multiple families home with this - you surely know this...

Its disappointing but I'd explain the situation / claim insurance and postpone the holiday

BunfightBetty · 24/02/2026 15:30

This is a reverse, right?

Surely nobody is this selfish.

Lollirocks · 24/02/2026 15:30

The first time I have ever voted, I cannot comprehend how someone could think this is in any way reasonable.
I really do with people would stop thinking only about what is convenient for them, less entitlement all round wouldn't go amiss.

BernardButlersBra · 24/02/2026 15:30

This is impressively grim. Reverse or wind up?

Poetnojo · 24/02/2026 15:31

Jesus Christ of Almighty do NOT do this!
It would be Selfish and disgusting beyond measure.
I'd quicker sleep in a tent in my back garden then set fire to the whole shoot and shebang rather than spread the hell that is scabies to all and sundry.

I imagine the bedding will be changed and dry cleaned.

Changed by a human being.

This sort of behaviour should be criminal.

Newthreadnewme11 · 24/02/2026 15:34

melonhen · 24/02/2026 15:11

I imagine the bedding will be changed and dry cleaned.

Why would the bedding be dry cleaned? Surely no holiday let’s/hotels dry clean bedding?

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 24/02/2026 15:35

Jeez, and my husband wonders why I won't put my head back on a cinema seat 😄 People like op is why!

Bababear987 · 24/02/2026 15:35

No OP that is so disgusting and selfish just treat your family and clean your home, don't risk infecting other families.

Hellohelga · 24/02/2026 15:35

Not ok!,

northernplatform · 24/02/2026 15:37

Scabies was going round DCs uni last year (very common at uni’s I’m afraid now!) and the cream most certainly didn’t work the first time. Took months for the house to get rid properly and they were doing all the right things. I think you’re being ridiculously optimistic to think one round of the first cream you try will cure the lot of you.

So, anyway you will not be clear of it, and you should not take it to a holiday park!!!

melonhen · 24/02/2026 15:11

Yes, and will have to be touched by the cleaners!! If you’re worried about “missing something” in your own home surely the same applies in a holiday home? Only difference is it will be somebody else not you coming into contact with it. Not acceptable solution imo. Deal with this in your own home.

BePoisedPlumUser · 24/02/2026 15:38

Well you’ve put me off ever going to a holiday park ever again.

Overthebow · 24/02/2026 15:39

That’s disgusting.

WeekendTripHelp · 24/02/2026 15:39

PurpleThistle7 · 24/02/2026 15:20

Oh this makes me feel super ill to think about. Do people really think like this? Shudder shudder shudder. Ick.

I know it's really grim isn't it?

lunar1 · 24/02/2026 15:41

this is why we can’t have nice things 🤢

This! And the cleaners won't have the benefit of knowing what they are dealing with! Unless you were planning on leaving a note to let them know you have all had scabies?

nam3c4ang3 · 24/02/2026 15:46

fucking hell ive had enough of mumsnet today i think - OP WTF is wrong with you?!
