Am I going to fail probation

I'm getting worried, half way through probation, have had 3 unavoidable bouts of sickness ( all different cases and not disability related) been late in to work 4 times and have been reminded to answer emails that I forgot several times

In my defense I have had alot going.on in personal life and this has impacted me

AIBU to think I should be given another chance ?

I am
on probation in teaching role within the FE sector as a SEND teacher. It was very hard passing the interview but got the job. I then got a very negative probationary review due to not completing CPD and other things because I was too slow. However i was getting used to a new environment & it takes time for me to process . I did not know about CPD though. Also, I was chucked in the deep end of the job. I wasn’t shown many things due to it being a very busy and demanding department. I struggled to feel accepted by certain members of staff as they don’t take well to new people (mainly bitchy support assistants). I suffer with bad health and on lots of medication including beta blocker for migraines! I was also incredibly sick over Christmas but still went to work literally dying! So here is the thing! I knew how lucky I was to land the role, I knew how competitive the teaching sector is especially for permanent contracts. I didn’t want the negative issues impact me. I knew I needed to be extremely resilient. I made sure, I did not give them room to be unhappy about anything during probation period. I get to work 30 minutes early each day. I now complete all my training CPD. Even when sick, I go in but ask to leave earlier. I practice gratitude 🙏 everyday for the job because it is my dream role. I tackled each issue including bitchy behaviour indirectly. It was a very rocky start with a lot of uncertainty if I wanted to stay. I just waited it out & now absolutely love it. Those negative feelings and problems have passed.

I managed above because I am also passionate about my job & do genuinely love the role. I want to suggest If you are too sick to commit or lack commitment then maybe the role isn’t suitable or your not in good health to manage the commitment of the role.

if you love the job, then you need to turn things around & try to demonstrate that your reliable. If sick, like you genuinely can’t help it then ask them how you can make up for the missing period. All these incentives will help you pass probation ☺️

If you worked for me you’d be gone! Sickness is one thing but lateness and forgetting tasks is unacceptable.

Doubtful given the law changes. It will be harder to get rid of you later.

Hate to say it but you sound like a bit of a nightmare employee. Sickness aside as that can be sheer bad luck, as your manager I’d be annoyed at you for being late and having to be micromanaged to answer your e-mails. Make the effort from now on and hope for the best.
