Sorry if posted In the wrong area! Didn’t know where was best to post!!

last week while on holiday in NYC my partner of 5 years proposed to me! :)
it was a total surprise but I am so over the moon. He proposed to me with a temporary ring off Etsy with the intention of us going shopping together and choosing my engagement ring.

i know I want a dainty, classic engagement ring which I will still love and like wearing in years to come. I’m not into big diamonds at all, I want a small but beautiful diamond ring.

after researching diamonds, cut and ct sizes I know 0.5ct is the biggest I would ever choose for a diamond. I want white gold or platinum, unsure of the band as I like the diamond paved but the plain bands also.

I want a simple but beautiful diamond that sparkles :)

if you have a diamond engagement ring which is, say, 0.25, 0.3, 0.4 or 0.5ct please drop it here so I can see some inspiration :) :)

My engagement ring is just over 1ct including the shoulders and gallery. When I viewed it, it was set in yellow gold which I never wore 18 years ago so they remade it in white gold and took out the centre stone and set it into mine. It was a small independent jewellers in our town.

I love my ring as much today as I did back then..I went for a super plain band and then a sparkly eternity ring later on - I was finishing my PhD and we joked it had taken me an eternity to finish it! I wear a size J 1/2 so pretty small fingers if that helps.

I have to say whilst mine are white gold. I think I've had them replated twice and we'll be 14 years in April. I think I had the engagement ring done just before we married so they would all match and wear at a similar rate. I wear gloves for all cleaning and I'm not someone who wears much hand cream which I think can speed up the need for replating.

At 10 years I fancied another band so got the dual band which I wear on my right hand from a high street jewellers (Chisholm Hunter). I wear it with a ring that my late stepfather gave to my mum but she can't wear anymore as her fingers are too big.

I tried on hundreds of rings. You'll know when it's something you like. I love a square/rectangle watch but they just don't look right on me. I knew I loved my ring when I finally picked it so pick what you are happy with. Doesn't matter what stone, setting etc. Just that you are both happy!

I really love my halo design. I don't suit large stones either. The main stone is 0.5 on mine.

No idea re carats or anything like that as I didn't want a classic "engagement" ring. It's just sparkly! 😀

went shopping today, ended up in Ernest jones, this ring is my favourite that I tried on, what do you guys think?

its 18k white gold, 0.25ct diamond, 0.4ct weight altogether, very good clarity of diamond, it was sooo sparkly. My fiancé suggested I size up with the diamond but I love the 0.25 size

I think this is lovely!

and honestly it is very sweet your fiancé wanted you to size up. it bodes well for the future. my husabnd alwasy wanted to spend as little as possible and it casuedreally very very severe problems for us later on - I went into psychosis from stress

Aquamarine and diamonds

Stunning. Is that Chains of Gold?

Congrats on your engagement! I totally get wanting something dainty and classic. My ring is a platinum solitaire just under 0.4ct I have smaller hands too, and honestly, anything bigger felt way too much for my style. I ended up mixing a plain platinum band with the stone because I wasn’t sure about pave either, and after trying a few on, the simple look just felt right for everyday. For sparkle, clarity makes a big difference and I remember obsessing over it more than the carat size.

When we ring-shopped, we actually checked out a few places that let you design your own or tweak styles to make them more personal. There are good options out there if you want to look at custom engagement rings, which I think is great for getting exactly what you want.

All diamond rings look sparkly in the jewellers, but in reality small diamonds in high street shops are not likely to be high colour or clarity grades. If you want a truly sparkly diamond you need to buy a certified diamond with the best colour, clarity and cut you can afford. You only want a small one so even a very high quality stone shouldn’t bust the budget.

If you go to Birmingham jewelry quarter you can pick a stone and a setting and they will put it together for you. I found a ring I liked but wanted a better quality stone so they bought one in for me size I wanted and put it together for me. We got our wedding rings there too. They gave us a very good price.

Look at Suzanne Kalan rings. Mine is from there but no longer sold. It's a central stone surrounded by little baguette diamonds, like a flower. It's delicate but spiky which really appealed to me. Mine is also on the small side as I wasn't really into the whole engagement / wedding thing so I wanted something understated.

Another vote for Edwardian rings. Not my engagement ring but this daisy ring on my right hand is dainty, my finger is size ‘i’ though so tiny. It’s 109 years old and belonged to my 2x great grandma

Happy to confirm that your Edwardian is, indeed, gorgeous.

25 years old bought in a hotel jewellers in Singapore. Love it only wanted a delicate ring.

I know yours is an old-ish post but I just wanted to say that I love your ring! It's very similar to the one my first husband gave me, almost 40 years ago, although we found it in the US. Thanks for showing it, it really is beautiful!
