Home alone movie - Mandela effect?

Lostinspace13 · 19/02/2026 10:10

Can anyone clear something up.

In the first home alone film. You know the scene where the robbers follow Kevin up the street in the van. Kevin runs to the church and hides in the nativity scene. Marv and Harry are asking where he went and one of them says that Kevin might have home into the church. Then Marv says “I’m not going in there, that place gives me the creeps”.

Well apparently, he didn’t say it gives me the creeps. Loads of us can remember her him saying it but I can’t find any evidence. Clips on YouTube suggest that he didn’t say it.

Perhaps there are different versions?

Can anyone remember or has an old copy of the film?

Yanbu - Marc did say it gives me the creeps
Yabu - He definitely didn’t say it

Sounds correct that he did...

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/02/2026 10:33

Apparently you’re not alone and lots of people remember it but it was never in the movie.

Like Of the world was never sang at the end of we are the champions but many myself included would still argue blue in the face that it was.

I have a very distinct memory of watching a TV mini series with my mum, sometime in the late 90s/early 00s. It was an adaptation of a favourite novel of mine. Anthony Andrews was the male lead. The female lead had an unusual name and I remember thinking “oh, that’s how you pronounce it!” Except this series was never actually made. I can’t find any reference to this series on line. Doesn’t appear in Anthony Andrews’ filmography.

Duplicate post.

Is there any way you can post a clip?

Thank you, there must be different versions.

Agreed, I remember Marv saying ‘the creeps’. Most 80s kids know all the lines from Home Alone.

BertieBotts · 19/02/2026 11:12

Possibly the version shown on US TV is edited to be less offensive to Christians? There are small edits like that in lots of films.

Morepositivemum · 19/02/2026 11:14

Definitely remember it!!

JustJoinedRightNow · 19/02/2026 11:15

Yep I remember it too. I'll check my copy tomorrow

Starlight1979 · 19/02/2026 11:30

He absolutely did say that! I know every line in this film off by heart 😁

Tink3rbell30 · 19/02/2026 11:47

Yes he did. It's edited out to avoid causing offence but the VHS and DVD copies still say it.

treeowl · 19/02/2026 11:48

I remember the creeps. Maybe a UK edit, I have the dvd but no dvd player 😆

Could this be a addition in some live performances?

Always watch films on the original dvd release- you know it'll be the real deal. And not edited by some wally trying not to offend anyone.

He definitely did it in the Live Aid '85 concert. I believe it happened in others too

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 19/02/2026 12:11

Yes! He definitely did say it on my VHS copy that I watched hundreds of times. I still mutter it every time I watch it now. Seems like such a pointless edit.

lastlonelygrape · 19/02/2026 12:16

That does seem like an odd edit. As a Christian, I'm not offended that a criminal would be creeped out by the thought of going into a church. If anything, it makes sense that he wouldn't be comfortable in a church in that it might trigger guilt and anxiety over his awareness that he's not a very good person. Besides, some churches are kind of creepy.

SetTheTone · 19/02/2026 13:06

I've just watched the version on Disney.

Marv: Maybe he went into the church
Harry: I'm not going in there
Marv: Me neither

Now that you mention it though it does sound edited as though something was clipped out.

I noticed the same thing when I watched an old episode of Absolutely Fabulous a year or two ago. They were riding around in a taxi near Buckingham Palace and Eddy said something to Patsy about pregnancy or something. Next minute the scene was cut but you could still hear all the canned laughter in the background. I can't remember the exact comments but it was obvious Patsy had said something about abortion that would have been hilarious in the 90s but totally banned now.

MillyTheale · 19/02/2026 13:10

So there’s a perfectly straightforward reason why that line has been cut from a subsequent edit, rather than alternative world timeline in which it wasn’t said. Walkers’ crisps were different colours and Nelson Mandela died in prison?

malmi · 19/02/2026 14:09

He never said it. This has been doing the rounds for ages. If he had said it we would have the proof. Plus it doesn’t make any sense that they would edit that one line out. The problem is that you can really imagine the actor saying it and how it would sound.

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 19/02/2026 14:20

I just watched it. Harry says 'I'm not going in there', Marv replies 'Me neither' and Harry ends with 'Come on, let's get out of here' and they drive off. It's the DVD version, but from very early 2000s.

Edited

I imagine that was the original intent of the line! But people get offended by all sorts.

There is a scene that was edited out of Lilo and Stitch apparently where Lilo hides in a tumble dryer and they changed it to a small table and a pizza box so that children wouldn't copy and get trapped inside the dryer 😬 (it makes sense as an edit)

Sorry, I meant to quote this post not the other one.

Whaaaaa? The song We are the Champions definitely says ‘of the world’ at the end. Am I being thick and misunderstanding? The Queen one?
