Whenever DP or I have taken a job we ignore any bonus unless it’s contractually guaranteed. I also don’t see how they can guarantee a pay rise, surely it’s dependent upon a number of things. If this is a job you are interested in, a step up, has opportunities/will give you good experience then go for it.

I have been in the job for a year and a half, both are contractual agreements. Based on performance yes.

Yes I do.

Waywardremote · 18/02/2026 09:00

I think it's reasonable, but if you are ambitious, at your stage I'd be focusing more on what you are learning, the kind of work you are being exposed to, are you being stretched?

yes I am being stretched, we have little choice in that tbh, but I want it too. I am just trying to adjust my development plan and have a pay review coming up also.

This IS my job…I’m trying to gauge if it is of suitable compensation. Is that ok with you?! Tbh I think I could be paid more!

No-one will be able to give you an accurate answer for this about the salary without knowing what the job is. (Benefits are different as they vary less by job)

I don’t see why this is relevant tbh. I am 5 years in this current industry. I didn’t want to be to specific but it is the pharma industry

50k is great in Ur 20s. Not so much in Ur 40s and 50s. My DH was 100k+ in his 40s and now is reaching just over 200k

Ok that’s great, my age is irrelevant imo. People’s salary can fluctuate throughout a lifetime…it’s not always something that increases with age. Many factors can influence what you earn and when.

You mentioned earlier you had 3 years experience - next level up from being a grad - which is it? 3 years or 5 years?

I said the role required 3 years experience. I have 5 years in total in the industry. Apologies if I was not clear.

I think it also depends what’s important to you - as a PP said, I think the benefits look good (especially private healthcare) and maybe better than you’d expect for the actual salary. So, whether it’s a good package depends on whether you need the cash more or put a higher value on the benefits.

When given the choice - our team all wanted the cash rather than the benefits - then they had the choice of what mattered to them. Medical insurance was non negotiable because it mattered to us too.

Dragonscaledaisy · 18/02/2026 11:52

For pharma, 50K is not good salary.

No I stayed at home to look after kids. He worked

Yes. I stayed at home to look after all our DC. And he earned

ukathleticscoach · 18/02/2026 13:19

Depends on what you are on now not how you compare yourself to others

That’s lovely so I stayed home with my dc for 5 years and then returned to work. Life and earnings is not always linear as such iyswim.

Okay. You're not going to share or even say what range. That's your choice.

Just imo (as someone who's seen how careers go) I thought as you get older you gain more skills, become more senior and thus get paid more?

This is the wisdom DH has imparted to our kids.

There's another thread where someone is asking if £32k is good. That person is 35.

£32k is a great salary to get fresh out of uni, but ultimately as you work more and become more skilled hopefully your pay rises with your increased experience.

That's a fair point. Which is why I asked. I assumed from your OPs that you were late 20s

That may be the case if you stay in the same industry, role etc, don’t take time out, are not made redundant etc etc. there are so many factors that can impact your earning potential. My experience in the industry is all that matters imo, not my age. I’m 40 though if that helps.
