To think that my son's hairstyle won't make him a target for bullies?

Please see profile page and let me know what you think. I thought he had a reasonable 'normal' haircut but i have heard from DP that MIL thinks he looks stupid and we have to 'sort it' before he starts school as he is going to be a laughing stock? BTW atm he is 3 yrs old. I didn't think hairstyle was a big bother at this age but perhaps IABU.

I doubt she is going senile at 48!! I'm no longer having anything to do with her as she is always finding things to niggle at and is just generally unpleasant. Feeling much happier about it bu think I'm going to have to stop DP sharing such little snippets as this on the rare occasion he sees her.

His hair looks fine and I'd ignore her comments. My mil has been commenting on ds's hair for 12 years now, and I just smile sweetly and ignore her.

Blimey I was expecting Zowie Bowie ringlets!

He looks lovely and she is a twerp.

piratecat · 17/06/2008 08:50

he has normal hair. wtf is she on about.

you gotta laugh!!

missblythe · 17/06/2008 08:53

What? He's just got normal boy-hair.

Not, sadly, the glam-rock shaggy, shoulder-length perm that I was looking for.

Your MIL sounds bonkers.

And a No. 1 on a child looks vile.

BouncingTurtle · 17/06/2008 08:54

My stepson had his hair like that when he was a similar age. Please assure your batty concerned MIL that she should get a grip not worry. No-one took a blind bit of notice of dss's hair.

GeoffWode · 17/06/2008 08:58

Your MIL obviously has extremely bad taste. Your DS's hair is lovely and normal. Grade 1 on a child is awful.

Love2bake · 17/06/2008 09:45

Cute kids - cute hair

Villette · 17/06/2008 10:13

I'm not sure that I can understand the logic here. Your son has a perfectly normal haircut. Your m-i-l says he should have a No.1 or he will be bullied. Isn't she the one doing the bullying?

flossish · 17/06/2008 12:43

LOL villette. Although you are right, always, sadly.

It looks very similar to my Ds's hair, but his isn't so tidy, the reason being that he used to have it shaved (not a number one), because it was quick and easy and he hates having it cut.

I hated is shaved and so it is currently growing back again now is taking forever and he looks like a scarecrow as it is all different lengths, but we have to put up with it until it grows enough to be sorted out properly.

So, definatly do not have it shaved off, you will regret it.

nappyaddict · 17/06/2008 12:48

wabbit - did you cut your ds' hair like that or did it just grow like that? its lovely.

Twiglett · 17/06/2008 12:48

that's what nearly all reception kids boys hair looks like

MsDemeanor · 17/06/2008 12:51

You Mil sounds a bit, um, rough. Am I right?

Twiglett · 17/06/2008 12:53

LOL MsDemeanour

bozza · 17/06/2008 12:59

Very normal haircut on a cute little boy.

RubySlippers · 17/06/2008 13:01

flossish - your DS is lovely - great hair

your MIL would have a heart attack at the length of my DS's hair

muggglewump · 17/06/2008 13:03

Totaly normal hair.

I hate the shaved look on little boys, someone I know used to shave her DS hair off as it was red and she hated it she just succeeded in making his head look like a baked bean

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/06/2008 13:04

I was looking out for a ridiculous hairstyle and it's completely and absolutely normal...what on earth did your MIL mean ? don't shave it off -he'll look like an oik

I was expecting plaits or something, not perfectly normal hair. Your MIL is seriously weird!

Ledodgy · 17/06/2008 13:05

I hate the shaved look too. Your ds has lovely hair. My ds1 has very curly hair a bit like Archie's from balamory (pic on profile) and I really don't know what i'm going to do with it when he starts school!

cheesesarnie · 17/06/2008 13:07

flossish- i dont get what could possibly be wrong with his hair!hes adorable.
my ds2 is scruffy.
