It’s months away

Well people plan weddings 3 years in advance....

Besidemyselfwithworry · 15/02/2026 20:39

Is it a big birthday at a venue with lots of guests etc??

Smartiepants79 · 15/02/2026 20:40

Depends on what kind of party. A massive 50th with all the trimmings or a party for a 3 year old in your own house?

Jellybunny56 · 15/02/2026 20:41

It surely depends on the party & attendees?

A birthday party for a 5 year old hosted at home and inviting a few friends who live round the corner- doesn’t need to be planned yet.

A birthday party for a 30 year old, held at a function room/pub where you want catering/DJ and have guests who would need to travel, use annual leave to attend etc- good idea to start planning now.

I’m currently planning a birthday party for June 🫣 Just in terms of securing a venue and entertainment, the rest of the planning is in my head so far!

tartyflette · 15/02/2026 20:42

Depends. If you're just having friends round to yours, it may be unnecessary.
But if you're hiring a venue then definitely not. June is high season for weddings and other celebrations too.

pinkmustard · 15/02/2026 20:42

In the middle of planning a 40th in June myself haha. Those closest already have the date so they can keep it free!

Sunshineclouds11 · 15/02/2026 20:42

Depending on entertainment, food, balloons etc these all need booked in advanced

SPQRomanus · 15/02/2026 20:43

Not if it's a big party with lots of people. Or if there are certain people who the birthday person really wants to be there. Doing it now means a date can be arranged and put in diaries.

properidiot · 15/02/2026 20:45

We sent invites out for a family birthday party in June along with our Christmas cards! People are all so busy so the more notice we give everyone the better. Not unreasonable at all.

Geranium1984 · 15/02/2026 21:01

In November I was invited to to a 40th which is happening in June.

Everyone has lots on in the summer, if you want a good turnout, you have to get your date in early.

Last year we were invited to five things on 21st June! We made it to the wedding and the tail end of a 50th birthday.

Brewtiful · 15/02/2026 21:04

What a ridiculous question?

Of course it's not too early. Venues get booked months even years in advance. People have busy lives especially in the summer and everything else that comes with organising a party doesn't just magically happen over night.

I suspect you've never organised a party.

Octavia64 · 15/02/2026 21:05

I planned my 40th about 18 months in advance.

big party with lots of people

Geranium1984 · 15/02/2026 21:06

And childrens birthdays, my son"s bithday (6) is over the school summer holidays so I am teaming up with another mum in the class with another summer birthday to have a joint party. Hopefully we will have booked a venue by March and have the invite out not lomg after. The last couple of weekend before the end of the school year are always busy.

gototogo · 15/02/2026 21:06

Depends on type of party and how close you are to them. I would let close family or very close friends know if it was a big event but not people not so close to me until 6 weeks out or so

SpongeKnobNoPants · 15/02/2026 21:08

No, it's not too early. HTH

FinallyHere · 15/02/2026 21:09

You know planning is about deciding what is going to happen in advance?

HowMuchIsThatDoggyInTheWindow123 · 15/02/2026 21:22

I always plan birthdays about 5 months ahead. Venue secured and catering if needed.
Then if dcs party I start picking up party bag fillers , table decor or whatever I can weekly.

Rocknrollstar · 15/02/2026 21:57

We booked the venue for our Golden Wedding 6 months in advance and sent out ‘keep the date’ notices.

Helpforsummer · 15/02/2026 22:40

Planning a big party in June.
My 7 year olds birthday in July I've not given a thought to yet. Totally depends one what and who it's for.
A bunch of 7 year olds in a church hall at 11am on a Saturday or a group of time short adults with baby sitting woes at 7pm on a Saturday night 🤷🏼‍♀️

Bearbookagainandagain · 16/02/2026 07:43

Why does it matter to you?

Moonnstarz · 16/02/2026 07:50

Depends on party venue and how popular it is. Even some kids parties can get booked out months in advance if it's something that is limited.

dampmuddyandcold · 16/02/2026 07:53

I do, because they are expensive and I spread the cost. My children are December and July and I put the deposit down and book the venue for the July one in January and the December one in August.

MoiraPlunkett · 16/02/2026 07:54

What scale is the party on?

Large event with booked venue - if anything they've left it a bit late!
Medium event - about right
Small event (i.e. less than 10 people, just a house party) - it is quite early but guessing they would be wanting to secure the guests before they made other plans.

BillStickersWillBeProsocuted · 16/02/2026 07:56

I recently got invited to a party next month, I'd say around 1/2 the people on the group chat already had other plans, so based on that giving 4 months notice seems wise to me
