To think it’s odd to be planning a birthday party for June

It’s months away

OP posts:

I wouldn't have the headspace but no idea why it matters

Velvian · 16/02/2026 08:10

Depends whether it's an adult's big birthday costing lots, or a 7 YO's birthday tea party.

Even if it is a child's activity, it may be necessary to get a weekend day.

WilderHawthorn · 16/02/2026 08:12

I’m very organised and have things like holidays booked 12+ months in advance, and birthday parties etc around 6m in advance - normal to me & ensures good date availability and pricing

Everleigh13 · 16/02/2026 08:12

Not odd. You often have to book months in advance to secure a venue.

LlynTegid · 16/02/2026 08:14

I think it's odd not to be planning one three months or so in advance if a venue is needed or people are coming a distance.

FebruaryUsername · 16/02/2026 08:14

Depends if it's for a child or an adult?
People are busy so I get it. We're already booked up 3 weekends in June.

I have started having thoughts about my son’s 21st in June!

Astra53 · 16/02/2026 08:20

I started planning for my 60th in January for a June party. I needed to book the caterers, and I also sent out invites about four months ahead. Everyone is busy and gets booked up so I wanted to get in first!!

Nosejobnelly · 16/02/2026 08:25

I don’t think it’s odd.
If an adult party You need to know if your core friendship group are around as it’s peak holiday time (unless you have school-age children), and it’s a popular time for weddings and summer events.
Then you need to book any venue, outside caterers or entertainment.
If it’s a kid’s bday party it’s a bit early, yes. I used to plan a couple of months in advance for DC’s bday in terms of booking anything. It’s 4 months away though so not that ridiculous if it’s a busy time of year.

CloudPop · 16/02/2026 08:25

Odd to find it so odd you make a post on Mumsnet about it on a Sunday night and then don’t return to the thread

ToffeePennie · 16/02/2026 08:26

I have a July birthday and November birthday. This year my July DC is 12 and had amassed a lot of new friends and seems to be popular. So now I am rethinking our usual “one friend for a sleepover. 2-4 to the cinema or bowling and maccies” that we usually do for him and debating if we could put up a canopy or something in the garden, maybe show a film on our garden screen, or host a party at a proper venue or something. Maybe hire the cinema or something…but I’m having to plan because I will likely not be well at all in July and dad will not be able to plan a party properly whilst taking care of me and the baby.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/02/2026 08:29

Yet another dump and run thread with no context or opinion expressed by op 🙄

I love having a June birthday but lots of people are busy / away on June weekends so it’s wise to get a date in and let People know well in advance.

Whyhaveibeencutoutofmamsnot · 16/02/2026 08:31

We are having an event at home this summer for adults - starting planning now as some things take ages to do (decluttering, deep cleans etc) if working plus the uncertainty of the British weather.

Frivolousfox · 16/02/2026 08:35

Perfectly sensible. If there are lots of people who you would like to be there, you give them as much notice as possible.

ExpressCheckout · 16/02/2026 08:36

Oh, I can't stand this! But then I also can't stand the cheeky fuckery of 'save the date' cards either.

So, for me it's 'thanks for the invite, if I'm available I'll come, but please don't ask me to plan my life around you'.

CheeseNinja · 16/02/2026 08:38

Not too early. I’ve already booked a venue for May. Things get booked up.

Coffeeishot · 16/02/2026 08:44

Last birthday party we went to was organised 8/9 months beforehand, people had to organise themselves so they could travel, June isn't that far away.

ManyATrueWord · 16/02/2026 08:51

YABU. Venues get booked up, so do entertainers, caterers etc. also planning is fun. You can do things more cheaply if you plan well in advance. Not to mention get the work done at a reasonable pace.

Pllystyrene · 16/02/2026 08:52

I've started planning birthdays in from June to November already ( 40th,16th and 18th birthdays). But I like being organised and people having something exciting to look forward too!

holycrapballs · 16/02/2026 09:05

Why is there no poll so we can all vote on you being unreasonable. 🙄

StrawberrySquash · 16/02/2026 09:07

I terms of getting dates in the diary, I'm starting to put things in around that time right now. So it would be useful to know if I'm to attend.

BiscoffCheesecakes · 16/02/2026 09:09

It's only 4 months away. Don't be daft

Jackiepumpkinhead · 16/02/2026 09:11

What is with these ridiculous posts with no context.
