I’m a busy working Mum to a toddler. I do work part-time however I’m looking to increase my hours at work relatively soon.

Would it make life easier for me to order a weekly shop a month in advance? We only have a small under the counter fridge and freezer so I don’t have much space to store things and things go off quite quickly.

Would it make sense ordering a month worth of weekly shops at a time, i.e. plan and order a weekly shop (4 deliveries in a month)?

Why would this be psychotic? Do you understand what psychotic means?

Jamesblonde2 · 12/02/2026 19:05

Completely organised. Nothing wrong with that.

tilypu · 12/02/2026 19:05

I used to do something very similar. If it works for you, go for it!

BlueMum16 · 12/02/2026 19:10

If it works then do it.

It wouldn't work for me as I'd need to update each week with bits that have run out and need adding so I'd fine it easier to do weekly.

Sminty2 · 12/02/2026 19:26

Of course, it’s a good idea. I used to book 4 or so in a row.

You can amend each one up to 11pm the night before, so very easily adaptable, if people are out and a meal isn’t needed.

Hankunamatata · 12/02/2026 19:28

Eh

My shopling is delivered weekly with same staples we need. I have a month menu and shopping list for this so right ingredients get ordered each week.

Friend has a twice weekly delivery as they have limited space

Duckingpondlake · 12/02/2026 19:28

You do you, but I find the online shop takes a few minutes whilst waiting in line somewhere, watching the dc at swimming lessons etc. I really don't see it as a "job to do".

MidnightPatrol · 12/02/2026 19:31

I’d find having to plan that far in advance just created another job.

Just do it a few days in advance. If you have things you want monthly (loo roll, nappies etc) you can get Amazon to send them monthly. Probably your preferred supermarket can automatically put them in your basket too.

DreadPirateLucy · 12/02/2026 19:31

Mine are booked 4 weeks in advance, always at the same time, and then I just amend the order for what I actually want that week a day in advance, I think that’s pretty normal tbh.

LightYearsAgo · 12/02/2026 19:32

If the option is available and you want to do it why is this a question? I dont online shop so don't know how far ahead you can place an order

KitchenQuestion · 12/02/2026 19:51

Booking the slots so far in advance isn’t something I’d thought of, but I think I’ll start now.

I have a master list on Ocado of everything we buy every week. 90% of our shopping is the same every week so it saves me a lot of time.

99pwithaflake · 12/02/2026 19:53

Booking the slots in advance is fine. Why wouldn't it be?

x2boys · 12/02/2026 20:17

You dont understand what psychotic means it's a medical term that describes the symptoms of psychosis which includes auditory hallucinations, delusional beliefs ,ideas of reference etc non of which apply to you.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 12/02/2026 20:30

Psychotic disorders are severe mental disorders that cause abnormal thinking and perceptions. People with psychoses lose touch with reality. Two of the main symptoms are delusions and hallucinations. Delusions are false beliefs, such as thinking that someone is plotting against you or that the TV is sending you secret messages. Hallucinations are false perceptions, such as hearing, seeing, or feeling something that is not there.

What are you on about OP?

MsSquiz · 12/02/2026 20:32

I do that, as far in advance as the supermarkets will allow the deliveries to be booked.
book it in with the basics and then amend the day before the delivery

itsgettingweird · 12/02/2026 20:34

I use to have an Asda pass.

I could set a shopping list and is each week is click the list and add remove anything else as required.

entirely sensible imo!

Eileen101 · 12/02/2026 20:43

Not even slightly psychotic. Just good sense for a working parent.
I'm on my own with two small ones and work full time so take all the organisation hacks I can. See also:

  1. One big monthly shop. Top up after usually 2 weeks for milk, fruit, salad.
  2. Uniform out the night before.
  3. Weekly planner in the kitchen with meal plan.
  4. Get something out of the freezer in the morning for the tea and it defrost on the draining board.
  5. Batch cooking and bake
  6. School bags out the night before with relevant pe kit/swim kit/instruments.
  7. Activity items go straight back into the bag (via the washing machine if need be).
Cookingupmyfirstbornson · 12/02/2026 20:47

Why oh why are we policed so much on language but it's still okay to say shit like this?!

greencheetah · 12/02/2026 20:53

What do you mean? I have four x weekly Tesco deliveries booked in on the app at any given time.

I can amend them several times a day if I need to.

I thought this was completely normal and boring. Not remotely psychotic. But maybe I have misunderstood and you mean something else?

frecklemcspeckles · 12/02/2026 20:58

You are being massively unreasonable to use the word psychotic in relation to planning some food shopping. You're also being unreasonable in over thinking some basic tasks. Ordering shopping four weeks at a time in advance is fine if you want to do it. Comparing it to having a mental illness is completely out of order.

Cosleepingadvice · 12/02/2026 20:59

We do your second option but only because we dont have a huge amount of storage space. We use tesco online and they also have an option to just reorder last week's order. So we have several weeks shops lined up filled with our "standard" trolley and then the day before we just log on and make any changes. But we know that if we forget, it doesnt matter because we'll still get all the basics in. Plus if you did a month at a time, what would you do about all the fresh stuff? You'd still need to do loads of top ups for milk, bread, veg etc.

Lararoft · 12/02/2026 20:59

I have to take anti psychotics & they are a pain in the arse to be honest.

Doggymummar · 12/02/2026 21:00

I do this with Ocado, the same items, same slot every week. I have autism tho, not psychosis

FuzzyWolf · 12/02/2026 21:08

I think it’s relatively normal adult behaviour. Nothing excessively organised or anything psychotic about it.

BauhausOfEliott · 12/02/2026 21:37

I don’t think you understand what psychotic means.

I also can’t see why you need to ask other people when to do your shopping.
