I’m a busy working Mum to a toddler. I do work part-time however I’m looking to increase my hours at work relatively soon.

Would it make life easier for me to order a weekly shop a month in advance? We only have a small under the counter fridge and freezer so I don’t have much space to store things and things go off quite quickly.

Would it make sense ordering a month worth of weekly shops at a time, i.e. plan and order a weekly shop (4 deliveries in a month)?

I get mine delivered every Sunday at 1230 up to 5 or 6 weeks in advance. Regular items to hold the slots and then I meal plan properly on Wednesday evenings. Nothing wrong with being organised.

I also have all the Rukmini Ayers kindle books open on my iPad whilst I order and then pop the page number of each recipe on the food planning area of the apple calendar, shared with-the family so I don’t get the ‘What’s for dinner?’ on repeat.

Eenameenadeeka · 12/02/2026 21:49

I don't think it's either of those things, fine if you want to do it but I don't find it a big task so it's easy enough to do each week, I prefer the flexibility of choosing what I want at the time rather than thinking about what I want to eat for dinner a month from now, but you do you!

Psychotic ? Confused

MyThreeWords · 12/02/2026 22:30

Lararoft · 12/02/2026 20:59

I have to take anti psychotics & they are a pain in the arse to be honest.

At least they protect you from the horror of efficient online shopping though @Lararoft . Worth all the weight gain and blood-sugar issues😏

MyThreeWords · 12/02/2026 22:36

I wonder if the op is confusing psychosis for OCD. Always important to check you are trivialising the right disorder.

InterestedDad37 · 12/02/2026 22:50

I think it's fairly clear that the OP means 'psycho' as in 'psychopathic', but (obviously 🤷) used in a figurative sense rather than its literal/medical meaning. The figurative meaning is being used to denote very controlled behaviour (which actual real psychopaths can exhibit.

TheMimsy · 12/02/2026 23:06

As a mum that’s lost a son to psychosis I’d say it wasn’t unreasonable plan. I would however request people please rethink their use of psychotic, mental etc. there’s a community of parents, family and carers out in the world that live with this every day and it makes us flinch every time these words are banded about.

I know it’s a light hearted thread. And no shade to @Warmingupforsummer - I’d want to make life easier trying to manage adulting and raising a toddler if I were you. You do whatever works for you. :)

Why would this be psychotic? Do you understand what psychotic means?

🙄

user1473878824 · 12/02/2026 23:08

I do a big Ocado once a month with things like loo roll, cleaning stuff, toothpaste etc etc so nothing runs out and then grab fresh food as needed.

Emori · 12/02/2026 23:10

It's only psychotic if the fridge answers back

And even then, check the eggs. One of them may contain a tiny person struggling to get out.

MyThreeWords · 12/02/2026 23:12

The OP didn't use "psycho" @InterestedDad37 . She used 'psychotic.
I don't nomally go for language policing, and I know we all use words carelessly sometimes. But psychosis really is such a cinderella condition, with so few voices undermining its marginalisation, that it seems important to chuck in a bit of good-natured criticism of its use here

NotnowMildrid · 12/02/2026 23:18

Don’t do it no matter how strong the urge. You might become a psycho 😂

Emori · 12/02/2026 23:19

Norman Bates famously had weekly shopping deliveries ordered a month in advance.

Cherrycola4 · 12/02/2026 23:20

YABU for using the word psychotic

Dontlletmedownbruce · 12/02/2026 23:30

Whatever works for you. My pal has a monthly order on repeat, things like toilet paper and washing powder and long life food like cereals and sugar. She then buys fresh food twice a week. We are more ad hoc but my kids are older and I can pop out and leave them for a while, often tying it in with waiting for a kids activity. There is no right or wrong answer.

Lol, yes, his mother made him do it.

Emori · 12/02/2026 23:43

And look how she ended up!

Yes.

Wiseplumant · 12/02/2026 23:58

Psychosis is a serious mental disorder, where you may suffer from hallucinations, therefore I think you plan is closer to being more organized that psychotic. Is there anyway you could fit in a bigger freezer?

GreatAuntytobe · 13/02/2026 00:38

My dh has psychosis. He takes Olanzapine to control it. I can assure you that when his psychosis is "active" the last thing on his mind is the food shopping. The amount of people who mix up psychosis with psychopath dismays me. They are two extremely different things but the shame dh feels when people joke about psychosis/psycho is heartbreaking. Psychosis is an illness and is no laughing matter. It has destroyed our family life as we knew it. To answer your question I think you should go ahead and order your shopping in advance, no one will think you are psychotic.

Why oh why are we policed so much on language but it's still okay to say shit like this?!

Do you mean using 'psychotic' so casually (& incorrectly)?

I think it's just ignorance more than nasty.

after reading the replies, she might choose not to use it the same way.
