To not wear a bra?

Overthereithink · 08/02/2026 08:08

I stopped bothering about fifteen years ago. I think it was when I had a very long commute and I started taking my bra off in the car and gradually started questioning why I was wearing it at all when I hated it.

It’s been so long now I suppose I’ve semi forgotten most people do wear them (well, women anyway) but I’ve lost five stone recently and wondering if I should reintroduce the bra?

I wouldnt be without mine, but need the support and they are comfortabke

Sartre · 08/02/2026 08:11

If you’ve lost five stone surely your tits are much smaller therefore even less need for a bra? I don’t wear them either, never ever found a comfortable one and I just find them so restrictive.

HeadyLamarr · 08/02/2026 08:11

Bugger it. They are uncomfortable.

JacknDiane · 08/02/2026 08:12

Do what you like

ScarlettSunset · 08/02/2026 08:14

If you've been fine in the 15 years you've not worn one, then you're probably fine to continue.

However, if you want to wear a bra then make sure you get yourself measured properly (not M&S in my opinion!) so you can be sure you're wearing the right size and style.

A bra really shouldn't be uncomfortable - I don't even think about or notice mine once it's on. Getting the right size is key to that though.

Overthereithink · 08/02/2026 08:16

I probably was wearing too small once. My weight used to fluctuate a lot when I was younger.

I find the straps and wiring annoys me though but non wired bras annoy me more!

If you're not bothered about what you look like (and have very small breasts) carry on.

A well fitting bra shouldn't be uncomfortable though.

FrostyFlo · 08/02/2026 08:19

If you have always been small breasted then could probably get away with it .
But truthfully , surprised at 5 stone heavier you could . What breast size do you think you were ? Ok you did it , but how did it truly look and without any support back then how do they look now ?

BookArt55 · 08/02/2026 08:22

How about the sporty stretch ones (my boobs are too big to wear them). But they can give lift without all the hooks. Straps are wider.

If my boobs weren't at my knees I would never ever wear a bra. But no bra makes me look even bigger than I am... so it's like a small weightless surgery as soon as I put the contraption on.

But the moment I am home that torture device is off 😄 🤣

DrJump · 08/02/2026 08:25

I wear a sports crop in a Sunday unless going out. The rest of the time I wear a padded T-shirt bra. I've lost a lot of weight and my boobs are very floppy. I like how clothes look on me in the bra.

Overthereithink · 08/02/2026 08:25

I don’t think I’m particularly small - maybe D or C? But I don’t know … they’ve never bothered me and no one’s ever commented (and they 100% would) I think they are overrated. But I have noticed when I run up and down stairs there is a … slapping noise Blush I think that didn’t happen before as I didn’t run much and also they were probably heavier so didn’t move as much!

Mine are so much bigger since having babies and honestly I hate not wearing a bra. I even wear sleep bras sometimes. When I was a c cup pre kids it didn’t bother me not wearing one but i still wouldn’t leave the house without one. For one thing I think they add shape and make clothes look better and are figure enhancing in most cases

SheSpeaks · 08/02/2026 08:56

I usually wear a bra if I’m going out or to work but the rest of the time I just wear a soft stretchy vest type thing, crop top or have some vests with them built in if that works with my outfit. I wear them out because they make my clothes and body look better, and occasionally they are annoying but they don’t hurt.

Would you consider getting measured properly or measuring yourself? Saying C or D does not denote size without the band measurement (eg a D cup could be small or large depending on the rest of you) I wear a DD cup but have small breasts and don’t need much support, and don’t wear a bra for running and sports for example. And they don’t make a slapping noise.

Id measure because if you know your size you can try something and see if it makes your life better. If it doesn’t, no change, carry on as you are!

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 08/02/2026 08:58

If your bra is uncomfortable you’re wearing rhe wrong size. However you don’t need to ask permission not to wear one literally no one cares what under wear you chose to wear.

LlynTegid · 08/02/2026 08:59

Your choice. Though you might feel differently if measured and wearing the correct size.

notatinydancer · 08/02/2026 09:11

How old are you and what size ? I never wore one when I was younger and smaller but definitely need one now.

zebrazoop · 08/02/2026 09:14

Agreed . If people are more comfortable wearing one crack on. But I don’t know who decided out tits needed to be unnaturally high to be attractive

You get different types of bras, not all lift. Some are comfort.

I don't know why people insist on trotting this out, it's just not true for some people. Next it will be if something makes marks on your skin it's too tight.

FruitFlyPie · 08/02/2026 09:19

It's your body and your clothes, why would that BU. Personally I find bras very comfortable, and I wear an underwire one day and night. However, I'm an emergency department nurse (so I help people change in to hospital gowns every day) and I've noticed an increasing number of women don't wear bras compared to 10 years ago. So you are on trend OP.

ScarlettSarah · 08/02/2026 09:24

I wear 'crop tops' with some support. Don't like most bras, especially underwired.

It’s the straps; they annoy me. So I agree.

I’m not asking permission; I’m asking a question, massive difference!

I mostly wear oddballs lately. Surprisingly supportive but insanely comfortable. Bras only for occasions where a cleavage is useful.

My grandma probably never had a decent bra, when she was 80, her boobs were about waist height.
Bras shouldn't be uncomfortable. A decent fitting? Lose some weight?
Op f you are wearing loose, baggy clothes, no-one will likely know or care. What about summer thin clothes and t shirts?

Wholelottawoman · 08/02/2026 10:25

I hate bras too & only wear them when I’m out in public. The only thing about never wearing one is you’ll never enjoy the relief of taking it off at the end of the day 😆x
