To think that Trump supporters are becoming less vocal

estrogone · 06/02/2026 23:28

Up until very recently Trump Supporters were quick to put their hand up in solidarity with him.

AIBU to think it's getting harder for even the die hard supporters to publicly support him?

Oof! That's quite a generalisation and I despise Trump.

I've found the news too depressing to read lately. It's like living in an episode of Black Mirror.

What has the orange buffoon done this time?

BlackCatDiscoClub · 06/02/2026 23:47

Murdering two US citizens has been a bit of a blow to the base I think. And the comments around "dont bring guns to protests" won't go down well with the NRA lobby.

Lambington · 06/02/2026 23:54

Hes still got huge support unfortunately. America has really shown the world who they really are. The damage will last decades

it’s out there for the world to see, and anyone that continues to support a pedophile, knowing that he is guilty and undoubtedly so must be one themselves. There’s no other explanation.

Oh just raping, murdering and inciting racial hatred again! What a buffoon!

Only how some of them are, I think. Not the ones I’ve met, but that’s not a random sample.

I agree about the damage.

Are you talking about people in the US, or are you talking about the Trump cheerleaders here in the UK?

I think most Americans knew what he was when they voted for him, didn't they?

I'm not convinced that he will be losing much support because of the racism, the misogyny or the steps that he has been taking to dismantle American democracy etc. That would all have been priced in before the election.

I think he is losing support because of the economy. Americans are not feeling better off, even though Trump keeps telling them that they've never had it so good.

I do think the Trump cheerleaders in the UK may have become a bit less vocal. Perhaps the reality of what Trump stands for has become a bit clearer to them, and they've realised that there are bits of it that they don't like that much after all.

I'm hoping that watching the nightmare in the US unfold will make at least some UK voters think twice about voting for Reform UK.

I can understand people voting for him because he was the least worst option for them. I might disagree, but if people were upset with the democrats/politics in general I don't think it's fair to castigate them for that.

Its people who openly celebrated the fact he was "antiwoke"/"a breath of fresh air"/"anti feminist" based on things like his grab them by the pussy comment (and the actual rape case against him). Even if I really hated men I wouldn't be attracted to a politician because he boasted about sexually abusing men and boys. So the "men were just so sick of feminism they needed.to fight back" doesn't really track.

E.g
I was prepared to vote against Trump for all the right reasons... But I'm so disgusted by the outrage over 'grab them by the pussy' that I may give him my sympathy vote."
(Andres Serrano in a private email to Epstein)

With people like that it IS that they share those proclivities or just really really hate women and girls. The "your body my choice" edge lords should also similarly be taken at their word..unless they are very young but a lot of them are 30+.

JHound · 07/02/2026 00:11

I doubt they have been put off him. They’re a veritable cult.

Unfortunately all the media attention is on the Mandleson and Epstein links. It was a stupid move to try to court Trump by getting someone as odious as him to negotiate with him- it was always going to blow up in Starmers face because people like that are poison
But it means that Farages praise of Trump and his constant sucking up to him etc gets less attention/gets forgotten. And if Mandlesons fanboying (he almost seemed to have a crush) of Epstein is political poison then so should Farage's hero worship of Trump. (Plus the Bannon links etc). He knows what Trump is by now, just as much as Mandleson and everyone else knew what Epstein was by 2011.
But there isn't enough attention on it (and also the government can't.point out the worst of it because Trump is the President and as the ruling party they can't point out that Farage is fanboying a rapist and probably worse without ruining the diplomacy).

WTAF?! You think millions of Americans are "pedo's" because of how they voted?! MN, you might need to take that shit down because it makes you all look stupid.

There's a difference between voting (especially when there's only 2 choices) and being a hardcore fan.

To be a hardcore fan right now is.... A choice.

HRTQueen · 07/02/2026 00:28

No not in significant numbers in the US

The know who they voted for

JennyWren5 · 07/02/2026 00:30

I think his supporters are keeping quiet because they’ve got what they want! Bit of a generalisation, yes, but from my experience, one of my flatmates supports Trump and I’ve not heard a peep from him recently. I know he still listens to pro-Trump podcasts though.

Can you give me an alternative explanation as to why anyone would have no issue voting for someone they know is a pedophile to run their country (if they weren’t one themselves)

Completely anecdotal - on what I am seeing online in the UK and Aus.

Do you not think he is quieter as he might be feeling twinges of shame?

Possibly, but I don’t think I’ll ever know, as he’s not one for self-reflection or showing vulnerability. He would never admit feeling ashamed about his beliefs.

To add, I’m also interpreting the fact he’s still listening to pro-Trump podcasts as him continuing to support Trump.

I am baffled. How could anybody support him? Do people not have eyes and ears. It is not logical.

I’m as baffled as you are! Sometimes I think people are drawn to him purely because he’s so outrageous. I wonder if they’re fascinated that he seems to get away with a series of increasingly wild things that most other people would face serious consequences for.
