When you walk past people and think ooo their clothes smell lovely… I want that! How do I do this please? I’m wanting fresh lovely smelling clothes. They’re clean and fresh now but I feel they don’t have a lasting softener smell to them.

I use lenor and love the fresh smell.

Changingplace · 06/02/2026 05:52

Please don’t, clothes need to just be clean, I don’t want to smell overly powerful chemical products on other people’s clothes it actually makes me feel queasy.

Devilsmommy · 06/02/2026 05:59

Lenor spring awakening fabric softener, the outdoorable one. And I use bold lavender pods with it. Smells lovely

HeadyLamarr · 06/02/2026 06:01

Peg them out.

WarriorN · 06/02/2026 06:02

pop lavender heads into old socks and tie in a knot

or pop some essential oil on a folded tissue and put in drawers.

Unstoppables!

My friend has the loveliest smelling laundry. She use the fairy block of powder type tabs and blue lenor.

I would also suggest that drying clothes quickly and thoroughly help. The longer they take to fully dry the more likely they are tonhave the musty smell.

And a clean washing machine. I run a cleaner through my machine every month on the hottest wash (my new machine has a drum cleaning cycle) and leave the door open whenever its not being used.

One Smol laundry pod and hang it outside to dry. I can see six other gardens from my window and I’m the only one who has hung washing out at all over winter. It doesn’t fully dry at this time of year and I finish it off indoors with a dehumidifier on, but it smells bloody amazing. (And yes, even just three hours outside on a cold and windy day helps! Obviously not if it’s raining) And a clean washing machine like a PP said helps too. I’ve had compliments on the smell of my clothes.

Tallow and Ash do beautiful scented laundry products that are designed for sensitive skin. I tried unstoppable and Lenora but we all had bad skin reactions.

Happytaytos · 06/02/2026 06:20

Hang it outside.

You don't want to be able to smell it really. That's too much and overpowering.

Orangepate · 06/02/2026 06:23

Christ, no wonder the planet is dying!
Scent boosters my arse.. and people fall for this hype!

Littlemisscapable · 06/02/2026 06:24

Who can hang their washing outside at the moment ? This is great - Surf Magnifi-Scent Wash Sunshine Blossom. Have stopped using fabric conditioner. I get this from Asda.

hmmnotreallysure · 06/02/2026 06:53

I can't wait for spring so I can hang out my washing! I'm using a heated airer but my clothes just dont smell fresh. I pulled a tshirt out of my drawer last week to put on and I hadn't worn it since summer/autumn time and it smelled lovely from drying on the line.

Peridoteage · 06/02/2026 06:56

I hate overly perfumed laundry stuff. The absolute best thing is outdoors but it has pissed it down continually since October where i live :(

Squirrelchops1 · 06/02/2026 07:01

Please don't! We buy quite a bit from Vinted and hate the massively over fragranced washing stuff people use. It's so chemically and fake.
Also, doesn't it create a mix up of smells if you're wearing perfume?

shellyleppard · 06/02/2026 07:03

I've been using comfort sakura dreams fabric conditioner.... it smells amazing!!

Are you at home all day though? I'm out from 7-7 so no chance of hanging washing out and it not getting rained on in winter.

savvy7 · 06/02/2026 07:24

I also hate strong fabric conditioner. I use white vinegar as fabric conditioner as it conditions the fabric without leaving artificial smells.

What is the point of wearing perfume if it is competing with fabric conditioner scent overload?

MrsMuggin · 06/02/2026 07:25

Change your washing powder. You dont need more fake chemical smells. I find I get noseblind if I've been using the same powder for a while. If I change it, I can smell the new one much more. If I then get something out I haven't worn for ages I can smell the scent of the old powder that I couldn't smell when using it all the time.
Will caveat that we don't use much smelly stuff (none of us can abide air fresheners) in the house so might be more sensitive than most.

Manifesto · 06/02/2026 07:30

just wash them. Please don’t use those synthetic scents - they are toxic to the environment (just see what warnings are on the packet)And are always too strong

CosyBungalow · 06/02/2026 07:31

I like my bedding to smell fresh, but as long as my clothes are clean, id rather choose a perfume that I like so I get that lovely smell...
I had the opposite experience with Vinted, bought a couple of tops from someone and they absolutely stunk of BO 😒

Petrine · 06/02/2026 07:32

Hang it outside… weather permitting

violetcuriosity · 06/02/2026 07:33

I honestly think the persil non bio and white comfort combo is the nicest, most fresh laundry smell ever.

Sophomore · 06/02/2026 07:34

Minimal scents, hang it outside if you can. A lot of people find those fake laundry scents really unpleasant.

Shardlake63 · 06/02/2026 07:36

Dry your washing outside whenever possible and, as a previous poster has said, keep your washing machine clean.
Descale regularly or use the drum cleaning program on your machine as often as recommended by the manufacturer, if it has one.
